The Pelicans are interested in Al Horford but fear that another team will outbid them for his services, Marc Stein of the New York Times reports (Twitter link).
Sacramento could be the team that the Pelicans are fearing. SI’s Chris Mannix tweets that many around the league see the Kings are a strong threat to make Horford a lucrative offer once free agency begins. Mannix adds that Horford fits what the team needs on the floor and could add leadership in the young locker room.
Stein had previously passed along that there was a sense around the league that Horford had a mystery team willing to make him a four-year offer worth in excess of $100MM. The scribe recently tweeted that the Pelicans may not be that suitor. While New Orleans is interested, the Kings might be the aggressive suitor that rival teams fear will win the Horford sweepstakes.
Please god no!!
I give him 20 games on whichever team your praying about for him to earn your respect. I didn’t catch many Hawks games from ’07-15 so when he signed with the C’s I wasn’t impressed. I wasn’t praying , but I wasn’t impressed. Now I hate to see him go. Every team needs a Horford.
Al Horford would be PERFECT for the Kings. He’s exactly what their front court has needed for the last 5 years. A solid veteran to both play well and be a mentor to their young bigs.
Would be dumb for Nola to commit that much to a PF/C instead of focusing on developing a Zion/Jaxson frontcourt but makes total sense for Sac. Fits better than Vuc with HB/Marvin/Giles
So it sounds like Big Al is more interested in a money grab than chasing a title.
OR he is more interested in helping to lead a team to being a title chaser rather than glom onto an existing team that probably doesn’t even need him to win.
I don’t see the fit in Sacramento. A young team that likes running now wants a plodding PF/C at the end of his career? I hope they don’t waste their money. He’s a good guy, good for the locker room. I don’t see the in court benefit.
