7:32pm: Looney also has a meeting with the Bulls tomorrow, Medina tweets.
7:02pm: The Rockets will meet with free agent center Kevon Looney tomorrow, tweets Marc Stein of The New York Times. Houston officials are delivering their free agency pitches in Los Angeles, which is where Looney will also talk to the Warriors and possibly several other teams, according to Mark Medina of The San Jose Mercury News (Twitter link).
Looney, 23, emerged as a rotation player for Golden State in his fourth NBA season, averaging 6.3 PPG and 5.2 RPG in 18.5 minutes per night. Coach Steve Kerr called him a “foundational piece” during the playoffs, Stein recalls (Twitter link), and that’s especially true now that starting center DeMarcus Cousins is a free agent.
The Rockets need help in the middle after Nene announced today that he will opt out of the final season of his contract. Houston also reportedly has a deal in place involving starting center Clint Capela if the team can land Jimmy Butler from the Sixers in a sign-and-trade.
The Celtics and Pelicans are other teams that have shown interest in Looney.
Wouldn’t they be in the same spot as LA with LeBron and AD?
How would they have 3 max players and add Looney? Also why would Looney willingly go there? Hey we signed a guy and dumped him quickly. Wanna come here?
Maybe for a greater role on a contending team?
With Butler, Paul and Harden you think his role will be greater? Honestly, make that argument.
I guess we’ll see
Looney is a big man. Butler, Paul and Harden are guards/wings… Looney could pick up more mins behind Capela while stepping in at the 4… He could prob see an uptick in minutes from 18 to 22-25. That is how he plays a bigger role. Not necessarily that he is more of a focal point of the offense…
You’re forgetting that to land Butler the Rockets would need to move Capela. It’s also major speculation that Butler would sign with the Rockets. Jimmy is definitely going to sign the max with Philly so if he’s going anywhere else it’s going to be via trade. And with Philly only getting eliminated because Jesus took the wheel on Kawhis game winner I don’t see why Philly would feel the need to make a move.
He would go for the money , GS will be a contender again really soon if not this season , you watch Curry gonna beast mode and Green will bounce back Klay will come back into the fold and the stars will continue to come
Mr Fantasy man with anotjer fantasy, forget the facts right?
Again, what money? Three max players in Harden, Paul and Butler would eliminate any money they’d have. Because that’s the only way they’d be without Capela anyways. So again, why would he go to Houston? Because they have about as much as GS would.
He is a warrior…
I’m a Wars fan and would still love
To see him sign elsewhere. To me he’s Jason Caffey part 2. When he was on the court did anyone seriously get
Scared that he may effect the game?
If you were a Warriors fan you’d see his injury was a detriment to the team. You’re right, not in a Durant or Thompson way but he was impactful considering 3 of every 4 shots went in for him. He was an effective role player like Iguodala except he needed the ball even less.
The way Looney played through pain was outstanding. Hope ghe gets his payday.

Except Capela won’t be there because they have to get rid of him to get Butler. And then they will be capped out so explain how he lands in Houston.
