The Cavaliers now have all three of their first-round picks under contract with today’s signing of Kevin Porter Jr. following yesterday’s deals for Darius Garland and Dylan Windler. The team formerly announced all three moves in a press release.
Porter, the final player selected in the first round, had a roundabout journey to Cleveland, being taken by the Bucks and dealt to the Pistons on draft night. Detroit moved his draft rights to the Cavs in a June 26 deal. No terms were released for Porter’s contract, but he is eligible to earn $1,936,440, $2,033,160 and $2,130,240 in his first three NBA seasons.
Porter spent one season at USC, averaging 9.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in about 22 minutes per game. He ranked sixth in the Pac 12 in 3-point shooting percentage at .412%.
I thought the reason why he wasn’t signed yet was because the trade couldn’t be finalized until July 6th?
That’s what I thought too, but then I realized the Cavs actually completed the trade a few days after the draft. So not 100% sure why Garland and Windler signed a couple days earlier, but I wouldn’t read too much into it.
Like the Cavs draft selections but don’t understand their direction. Garland, Windler and Porter Jr are all good players, great shooters and high upside players but where are they going with this team. Just the year before they draft Sexton, they still have Clarkson on the books and they have really looked hard at trading KLove yet they paid Laz Nance.
I know it wouldn’t happen but what if they swapped KLove back to Minnesota with Sexton, Windler and a draft pick for KAT. You’d have Garland, Nance and KAT as your foundation pieces.
I think wolves would want to trade wiggles or Jeff teague before even thinking of trading towns
Yeah I definitely couldn’t see it happening it was just an idea to get the Cavs some kind of direction.
Another idea and slightly more likely one would be KLove to Portland for Nurkic Bazemore and a draft pick. Kevin Love loves Portland so it would be nice to see him finish there. He would create a big 4 with lillard McCollum and Whiteside. Cleveland would get out of KLoves big deal and get back Nurkic a young ish centre on a cheap deal. Bazemore and his expiring contract and a draft pick.
I think in the case of this year’s draft they took the best availed. The current nba fancies ball handlers that can shoot. Neither is a pure PG but collectively they can work well together. I didnt have a problem if they took Coby White or Reddish either. I like Cedi at SF and I LOVE Windler. Was hoping either he or Cameron Johnson would be there when they picked at 26.
Close your eyes for a second tho….. Can you imagine both Sexton and Coby White on the floor together with Cedi and Larry Nance? Yeesh they could wear some teams out. Two little rabbits that can go end to end under 5 seconds.
This team is in desperate need of a rim protector. The defense is so bad that teams can get to the rim unimpeded.
I wouldn’t mind a Javelle McGee type but he princely will go to the Lakers or another contender.
I hate that trade. Giving away too many pieces. KAT is awesome but will he stay when the team starts to put things togethe? Would love Mitchell Robinson but I can’t see the Knicks moving him. He’s a beast.
Towns is signed through 2024.
