JULY 20, 8:09am: The signing is official, according to NBA.com’s transactions log.
JULY 2, 6:10pm: The Jazz will sign Jeff Green to a one-year deal, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com (Twitter link). Green will make $2.5MM, the minimum for a player of his experience level.
Green played last season for the Wizards. He had said he would “love to come back” to Washington but the franchise added wings/forwards in the draft, which complicated matters. The 32-year-old was speculated to be a target of the Lakers, given his previous success playing alongside LeBron James.
Utah needed replacements for both Derrick Favors (sent to the Pelicans) and Jae Crowder (dealt to the Grizzlies). Green will help replenish the team’s depth. Utah came to agreements with Bojan Bogdanovic and Ed Davis to help stabilize the frontcourt.
Was this just to get us Lakers fans happy by tagging us in this? Don’t play with my emotions right now hahaha
Another non-physical forward for Utah. Did they not have enough already. Gobert has a rough’n’tumble year coming up. Teammates will be staring at him, wondering how he got so soft. Hope he’s learned some cuss phrases in English.
I think the two time defensive player of the year is fine
Jeff Green is non physical? Have you seen him play defense?
zB- What are you talking about DPOY. He’s never even made all-defensive team. His DRtg is a bloated 116, his Def.box+/- is minus 1.4.
kc- Yes I saw him on the regular in Cleveland, always on the perimeter, or bench. Utah needs a starting physical 4 to help Gobert. Not Green’s fault… maybe Utah has a move coming.
zB- Okay you meant Gobert. I thought you meant Green.
Australians (Ingles) don’t do non-physical. I like the new forward rotation of Ingles, Bojan, O’Neal, Green forward rotation. And the Conley addition. 50 wins minimum, if they stay healthy.
So Ingles is the PF because he’s Australian (like Exum)? Him and his 4rebs, 0.2blocks, 6assists, & career 41%3pt shooting. He was listed as a PF but they can’t get anywhere in the playoffs like that and didn’t. They got farther in ’17 &’18 with Favors at PF.
Bojan, Green no better.
Royce can rebound but is only 6-6 and parttime. Ed Davis will be the starter. No room for Green. No backup for Gobert yet.
Green will get minutes. He always does.
Seems like you’re equating the lack of of true PF with not having enough physicality, and rebounding in particular. We’ll see. But Gobert and Favors didn’t play that much together any of the last 3 seasons. Individual rebounding numbers follow who you’re on the floor with. Bodan and Ingles are not small wing players who can’t mix it up, nor are O’Neal or Green. All are legitimate combo Fs.
In 2018 Favors played the 5 for a long stretch when Gobert was injured and this throws off his play-by-play stats. Otherwise he was mostly a 4, starting with Gobert until Crowder came in at the deadline, shifting Ingles to the 4. Crowder rebounds but is gone too.
I was hoping Utah would be pivoting on Conley this year, not on rebounding. Hopefully Ingles can hold out… it is certainly helpful if the 4 can pass& shoot 3s… but his stats in 2019 declined a bit with the shift.
Favors’ career playoff on/off is +17, +21 both of last 2 years, while Bojan’s is minus 12, minus 19 last year. I don’t think the Conley-Rubio upgrade can cover for this. At least, in the playoffs, it looks like the same ol’ same ol’.
Ed Davis can rebound, 17 per 36′.
Davis did little but back up Allen last year, and they used Dudley / Carroll as their 4. He and Tony Bradley will likely be Gobert’s backups, with Davis playing some PF in bigger lineups (like Favors, but less so). I expect Conley, Mitchell, Ingles, Bodan and Gobert to start, but it’s possible they start bigger.
