JULY 7: The Lakers have officially signed Dudley to his minimum salary contract, the team announced today (via Twitter).
JULY 2: The Lakers will sign Jared Dudley to a one-year deal, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com tweets. The contract will be a minimum salary arrangement.
Los Angeles is slowly adding to their roster as the franchise waits on Kawhi Leonard‘s decision. In addition to Dudley, the team has already agreed to terms with Troy Daniels on a minimum-salary deal.
Neither Daniels’ deal nor Dudley’s will impact the Lakers’ cap room, as they’ll be finalized with the minimum salary exception after the team uses that room.
Dudley appeared in 59 games for Brooklyn last season. He spotted them 20.7 minutes per game while shooting 35.1% from behind the arc. The Pistons were among the teams competing for his services this offseason.
A Southern California native, Dudley will be returning home on his new deal in the hopes of competing for a title, as he tells Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype (Twitter link).
“This is something I’ve been contemplating. I’d be getting a chance to compete for a championship, which is something I haven’t had since the Steve Nash [Suns] days,” Dudley said. “I just think that being home and with that Laker brand, what’s better than that?”
I’m Nother minimum salary contract. Anyone else sees the writing on the wall?
The Lakers could very well just be planning for the worst and want to at least get a few commitments from the better minimum-worthy talent out there, before they’re all snatched up.
Rxbrgr so far they havent added any really talent just “shooters”
Lebron always wants experienced shooters in his team. Historically, that’s among his preferences when building a team. A few examples are Eddie House, Mike Miller, James Johnson, Shane Battier, Kyle Korver, JR Smith, even Ray Allen. Let’s not kid ourselves, Lebron has a very strong voice & influence on how his team is built.
That sounds like someone just praying they don’t get him. The last time I saw something like this where a team was just signing guys to minimum deals they already knew they were getting LeBron James in Miami.
Do the lakers actually have any other choice given what is left in the free agent market?
There are still decent players out there. That doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone wants to come play for the Lakers.
Wether they get him or not I believe you will see cousins BN signed either minimum or if Leonard doesn’t come probably a decent 8 million dollars a year. No matter what happens I still believe Iggy is coming probably JR Smith and Korver. Right now players about to be released are not being shown as free agents yet but you will see a much larger list July 7th
Yup everything is on hold for weirdo kawhi and his puppet master “uncle” dennis.
You’re so disparaging. Why is his uncle in parenthesis? Why is Kawhi a “weirdo” or “puppet”? Simply because his thoughtfulness on decisions regarding HIS life doesn’t jive with your thirst for news? Gimme a break. When you have a family you take as much time as needed.
Amen
i feel that but they’re quotations, not parenthesis.
Why is his uncle in parenthesis?
…it’s quotes or quotation marks ;)
Weird requests every team he has been on, sitting out with a phantom injury wants his own training staff? Asking questions like “did you try to trade for me?” Have you seen how awkward the dude is when he talks?
Or did i lose you with the “parenthesis” ? Definition of “weird” is abnormal or uncommon id say kawhi checks off both of those or did you need to see his painful laugh again?
Everything that is commonality with typical players this guy doesn’t follow. This dude has his uncle as his agent, yet everyone critics lonzo over how his dad manages him….he has had ample time to decide 3 weeks since he won, maybe even since last year when he told spurs to trade him to lakers. If he was gonna stay he wouldn’t be having these meetings.
I believe the chosen team already knows. It’s just that he is trying to show respect towards the other two but I also believe at the same time he is screwing them but not allowing them to pick up players before everything is gone
Knicksfancavsfan this aint it man. Maybe weird isnt the correct word to use but everywhere and everything kawhi has done has been abnormal and strange. The simple facts of kawhi holding meetings indicates he is interested in leaving so why sit here and waste days to ultimately stay with toronto it seems like he is trying to create a circus about him and his brand that kd and lbj had during their primes.
More like kawhi does not care what any thinks
THIS^^^^
The problem is that idiot does not like he is even considering the Lakers. He is just a Lakers hater which really shows his lack of intelligence. He is like those people who say “Lakers don’t deserve a superteam“ or “LeBron does not deserve to have a superteam“.
You guys need to let the name calling go…Unless you know anything personally about Kawhi, you have no idea what he is like…and even then, what purpose does name calling serve? Kawhi doesn’t care, will never see your comment and it makes you sound like the idiot for thinking your comment has merit.
You need help
Lmao it obviously got under your skin to comment, lmao quit the righteous act. This is a general platform where ANYONE CAN come here to talk basketball not looking for lessons in morality. Thanks!
Says the guy defending someone hes never even met. Publicly the way kawhi conducts himself is strange, is the first line of thinking he just won a chip and wants to leave said team? Most sane players would re-up not join a super team. Again touching on what others said, no one cares what you think! But here we are having a discussion about basketball dont like other opinions get over it.
Minimum contracts dont affect cap room
Well at least there’s more than 5 bodies.
Nice, LAL add Elmer Fudley. Can’t wait to see him get punked again by Philly, only this time it’ll be in the Finals. That dude is literally a cartoon character (although this minimum contact is umpteen times more than what I pull in…good grief).
I’m a little clues to how the salary works with the NBA, so please don’t jump down my neck. How many minimum salary contracts can a team give out if let’s say they have 3 stars that take up all the salary like the Lakers night end up with? Just curious. Is there a amount of them you are allowed? And isn’t there a mid level contract you can give out? Is it just one?
Minimum deals can be unlimited. The Lakers could theoretically use their cap room on three stars and sign 12 minimum guys to fill out the roster (of course, they won’t, since they’ll have Kuzma and they’ll also make use of the room exception).
The room exception is the mid-level for teams that use cap space. It’s worth $4.8MM and can technically be split up on multiple players, though it usually isn’t (the $9.3MM full mid-level for over-the-cap teams is easier to split up, given its size).
Thank you. I’ve always wondered but never asked. Appreciate you explaining that.
They can sign as many vet minimum contracts as they want after the team goes over the salary cap.
With all the other younger players with upside available at the same price, why sign a 33 year old on the downside of his career who averaged less than 7 ppg and was only a 30% shooter from distance? Is this just Pelinka being Pelinka or is Dudley a member of the LBJ network?
He’s a solid locker room presence. That has serious value in and of itself.
Actually he shot 35% from 3 last year and has shot 39% for his career. LA is going to need depth. Why not sign a decent shooter who can play defense? If he doesn’t work out he can be cut immediately. I don’t understand all this negativity.
Kinda disappointed he didn’t resign with the Nets. He’s a good floor spacer and is somewhat crafty with the ball. Solid defender. And yeah great teammate.
Those are not Dudley’s stats from OCTraveler.
Very true about Dudley also get your facts straight he was 38% from beyond three point range this past season that is what they are looking for just like Daniels was 35% these two guys are what they consider in the league to be “sharpshooters“. It is obvious the Lakers are following the blueprint from one LeBron was in Miami load up with big names under the ram get these guys who are good from behind three point range on minimum contracts when they are on the floor it will spread things out weaving these guys wide-open be on the line. This is what they did in Miami for four years got them two titles and for final appearances.
Have you been following Lebron’s career?? Lebron always wants experienced shooters in his team. Historically, that’s among his preferences when building a team. A few examples are Eddie House, Mike Miller, James Johnson, Shane Battier, Kyle Korver, JR Smith, even Ray Allen. Let’s not kid ourselves, Lebron has a very strong voice & influence on how his team is built.
Lakers just signed Bo Kimble to a 1-year/ $890,000 contract, bringing him back to where he played his best ball
He’ll be an agitator type. Like a Lance Stephenson or Draymond Green
Which is also fine by Lebron. He needs a “bodyguard” on the court.
how much IS the league minimum for one of these pituitary miscreants?
12 mill a year
