The Nets have signed Kyrie Irving to his new four-year contract with the team, according to the NBA’s transactions log, which lists the deal as official. Brooklyn hasn’t formally announced Irving’s signing yet, but the club has a complex series of transactions that must be completed, so it may be waiting to announce Irving at the same time as Kevin Durant.
Irving is moving from one Atlantic playoff team to another after earning All-NBA Second Team honors with the Celtics this past season. He averaged 23.8 PPG and a career-high 6.9 APG and 5.0 RPG with impressive efficiency numbers (.487/.401/.873 shooting).
However, locker-room and chemistry issues, as well as a disappointing second-round exit in the postseason, soured his second and final year in Boston. The C’s will replace him with another All-NBA point guard, Kemba Walker.
While Irving was initially expected to sign a four-year maximum-salary contract worth just shy of $141MM, a report indicated that he (and Durant) would accept a little less than the max in order to accommodate a four-year, $40MM deal for DeAndre Jordan. We’ll have to wait to find out the final terms of Irving’s new contract.

remember when kyrie said he wants his jersey retired and be hung up in TD garden
Ya neither do I
I remember that he said the earth is flat and blamed his teammates when they were better without him.
What in the world is kD thinking wanting to give up the greatest team in the world, GSW, to go play with that sulking creature of primordial intellect that lacks any basic understanding of geospatial spherical influences. (hard to imagine when your world is a ball – eh Kyrie?) or is the flat court man’s ultimate design?
Gooooooood luck
Nets are going to be tough to stop when KD is back. in addition to all the young talent that they have, they have two first round picks next year and mid-level exception to fill in any needs
Kyrie and KD deserve each other. I just wonder how Brooklyn will supply all the tissues needed to soak up the tears from those two crybabies. That’s a tall order. Nets fans will be sick of Kyrie long before Durant is able to suirup.
Heh suit up too.
Oh boy how sad Celtic fans are, they all use to love Kyrie… only for hate him after he leaves! SMH.
He had the best season of his career, so y’all should be grateful for what he did for you, as far as I can recall no one else in the team had a career year… so maybe you should show some respect. No wonder no one wants to play in BeanTown.
Too bad Nets will give up 120+ a game. Kyrie is too good to play defense.
I only read the comments because I knew you haters would give me a good laugh. Kyrie has his problems, but I am happy to see the Nets be in such good shape after all that BS taunting they have taken from the Celtics these past few years.
It’s still hard to believe that KD would bail on the ultimate professional ambassadors of the game. The were the consummate pros known across the globe for their down to earth, non-imposing, selfless and modest personas. They were the franchise face of the world, of the common good of mankind, that would ignite fear and awe-inspiring amazement to the foes that dared to take on their challenges. That same magnificent team unmatched in any of today’s iterations will never get to happen again, because one player decided to give this all up. And for what? To go play hoops with Kyrie and DJ in the Big Apple – crazy and not well thought out. And KD, instant karma bit you hard in that “lower calf area” didn’t it? You blew it all on your own baseless ideas. Blew up the best team ever assimilated. You decided this over a year ago, thinking you weren’t getting enough deserving “love”. There will never be another team quite as dynamic as what you once had, KD. It’s Gone now. Nice going. Will never be the same.
