JULY 30: The Sixers’ deal with Burke is now official, the team confirmed today in a press release.
“Trey’s experience as a ballhandler matched with his scoring ability makes him a good fit for our roster,” GM Elton Brand said in a statement. “We’re excited to welcome him to the 76ers and look forward to the positive impact he can have on our team.”
JULY 25: The Sixers will add free agent point guard Trey Burke on a one-year deal, Shams Charania of The Athletic relays (Twitter link).
It will be a one-year pact at the minimum and will only be partially guaranteed, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer tweets.
Burke began last season on the Knicks before the team traded him to the Mavs in the Kristaps Porzingis deal. Burke saw action in 25 games for Dallas, scoring 9.7 points per contest.
Philadelphia has revamped its second unit this summer. The team signed Kyle O’Quinn and Raul Neto while bringing back Mike Scott, Furkan Korkmaz and James Ennis so far this offseason.
The Sixers also added first-round pick Matisse Thybulle and will look to get a full season out of Zhaire Smith.

Sixers, Trey Burke Agree To One-Year Deal
Hey finally something I like!!!
Wooooooo
Trey Burke is a bucket!! YouTube his Knicks highlights
He’s a scrub.
solid signing
Nice
Trey is a walking bucket when his confidence is up and is fully fit. Finally liking how this second unit is taking shake. So wish we didn’t draft Thybulle and instead we got Nassir Little and Bol Bol and traded picks to get Keldon Johnson also.
Little and Bol Bol would be small risk big reward player projects to develop. Little use to be a absolute gun until this year he would’ve made an awesome wing for Simmons and Embid. Bol would’ve fitted well with Embid in the team (both from Africa), and he could’ve really learnt of him and helped his game. Johnson would’ve been the spark plug we could use night in night out as a sniper for spacing.
Lol @ both from Africa
You do realize that Africa is an enormous place with literally thousands of unique cultures. You can’t just play the “oh two black dudes they must be friends” routine.
There’s literally like under 20 players in the NBA form Africa and both being young guys that play the same position I thought they could make a connection. Plus I feel like the African born players in this league are really kind and have good friendships with the other African born players. Think both players would really respect each other just cause of knowing where they come from and the work they have put in, plus both are big men so would go at each other in practice. Embid is obviously a really funny guy so you’d think they would have some good chemistry easily.
I bet bol doesn’t even remember the motherland…dude left when he was like 2 years old
Good for him. Minus his limited defense because of his size, he’s a good solid backup pg. I liked him when he was on the Knicks but not as a starting pg.
His defense is fine. Not great, but most of the league’s isnt (that’s why they have awards for it). If he wasn’t a good scorer there’d be no mention of his defense. That said, he’ll be an improved defender this season. Better 3pt shooter, too! ;)
And thats why I said limited. Its not for a lack of skill on defense. Also not for him failing to try. His defense is limited because his size. The league lists him as 6’1 but the dude is 5’11…6′ in shoes, so he’s shorter than most starting pg’s. He doesn’t have the size and muscle of Westbrook, Smart, or even Walker. Listen if he shot lights out, he’d be a starting pg. But he doesn’t. Im not implying, insinuating, or even stating that he doesn’t have talent. He most definitely does. I loved his commitment on giving it his all but its not enough. He could EASILY be a contender for sixth man of the year but not a starting pg.
I can think of a whole lot of “taller” guards who’s defense are average, at best. Burke’s size isn’t what makes him limited – there have been many guards his size (and smaller: Muggs) that were very good defenders. His d (or lack thereof) comes from a whole different circumstance that is trying to be addressed this offseason. Like Simmons’ jumpshot work, we’ll see if it transfers to the real deal (the season).
What circumstance, and why wait until now to address?
Ask and you shall receive. 3 days ago i posted after the Furkan about face how about Trey Burke as the final roster spot. I love it. Great team friendly deal and Burke could actually help this team. Might actually have a solid 2nd unit that can help the 1’s rest their legs for the long haul. Should be the 1 seed and close to a 60 win regular season.
Total scrub. One season of jacking up shots for a bad Knicks team is his one productive stretch as a pro.
