JULY 12, 10:24pm: The signing is official, according to a team press release.
JULY 1, 6:02pm: The Timberwolves have reached an agreement on a guaranteed one-year deal with free agent big man Jordan Bell, agents Aaron Mintz and Michael Tellem of CAA tell Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports (via Twitter).
According to Michael Scotto of The Athletic (via Twitter), it’s a one-year, $1.6MM deal. Bell’s minimum salary for the 2019/20 season will be $1,620,564, so it sounds like that will be the value of his new deal with Minnesota.
Bell is technically a restricted free agent, having received a qualifying offer from the Warriors last week. However, based on the reporting, it sounds like Golden State will probably rescind that QO, freeing Bell up to sign outright with Minnesota. Offer sheets must span at least two seasons, and a sign-and-trade deal must be for at least three years (albeit with just one guaranteed). We’ll wait on additional details to be sure.
A former second-round pick, Bell averaged 3.3 PPG and 2.7 RPG in 68 games (11.6 MPG) for the Warriors in his sophomore season. According to Mark Medina of The Mercury News (via Twitter), the 24-year-old also received interest from the Rockets, Thunder, and Jazz. Medina adds that Bell zeroed in on Minnesota since he felt like it was his best opportunity for a bigger role.
That’s a good pickup in my opinion
Now just get D-Lo
I don’t know if the rules are different from a sign and trade and a normal trade. But if I’m correct dlo can’t be traded till December 15 I believe
That is correct sir!
D-Lo to Minn
Wiggins to Milw
Giannis to GSW
DUN DUN-DUN-DUN!!!
has there ever been a more hyped, less productive top 2 in NBA draft history? like, the top 2 picks in drafts have both busted before. But has it ever happened to two guys that were as hyped pre-draft as Wiggins and Parker were?
OH my!! Now that’s funny. The Bucks give up Giannis to get Wiggins?? lol…..pass that bong!
Idk who the warriors ar going to fill out a roster with
They got six interesting guys on their summer league team. Jacob Evans, Jordan Poole, Alen Scmailagic, Eric paschall, KY Bowman, dedric Lawson. I think a couple of those guys will stick.
Plus they just re-signed Kevon Looney. I think they’ll be fine once they figure out what to do with Russell at the trade deadline. Maybe it works maybe it doesn’t.
Love Lawson
He definitely has the body. Saw him in the summer league a few games. I think he can put it together.
Paschall (just drafted), D-Lo and Looney are all the same age, so weird
While tight on budget to fit under the cap they still have Boogie’s mid-cap exemption. So, I expect at least 1 more mid-level pro. It looks like Looney is back. Then, rest will be low rent guys.
Luke, no link to Basketball Reference?
Added, thanks.
I love that extra work you guys put into that so we can just click on the guy and see his stuff.
Really a great added bonus. Really appreciate it.
Plus the other links to past articles you do sometimes, wow great stuff.
Great they signed Looney but its too bad to see Bell go for a minimum salary. Could the Warriors not have matched that?
They could have. My best guess is they think they can do better than Bell with a veteran on a minimum salary deal.
Enter Cauley Stein :)
Bell actually isn’t good at basketball
It’s the Warriors’ mystique – ‘they see something special in this guy so he must be good’. Their system allows players like this to shine in flashes, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bell go the way of James Michael McAdoo. Again, looked good in flashes for the Ws, signed a one year deal elsewhere, no playing time, G League, out of the league. Bell’s a 6’7″ish power forward with no shot, and that heralded defensive prowess has amounted to his biting on every pump fake thrown at him.
Bell has hops….he kept losing his man in the playoffs….his guy would get lay-ups…thus he stayed on bench.
