Heat big man Kelly Olynyk slipped on what appeared to be a wet spot on the court during a FIBA exhibition game between Canada and Nigeria earlier this evening and limped to the locker room thereafter as a result (h/t to Josh Lewenberg of The Sports Network).
Olynyk was dribbling the ball up the floor, quickly slipped and crashed to the court directly on his right knee, and came up hobbled before making his way to the locker room. He did not return to the game.
Devin Heroux of CBC News reported after the game that Canada head coach Nick Nurse confirmed Olynyk will undergo x-rays tomorrow to assess the injury, which Nurse believes occurred to his right knee.
As Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald notes, the 28-year-old is entering the third season of a four-year, $50MM deal he signed with the Heat back in 2017. He will make a guaranteed $13.1MM for the 2019/20 season.
Shades of PG-13, just not as terrible and horrific.
Finally some karma for trying to break Kevin Love’s shoulder. No sympathy for dirty players.
^unresolved daddy issues.
Maybe is you the one with issues, as what he says makes sense to most people, right?
Yes is me….because I’m happy someone got hurt for some past perceived slight
Wow you got issues.
You’re happy a player got injured. Yay.
Just as one may not be sad if another doesn’t receive their karma, you don’t have to be happy they do. But, you can acknowledge that they received it ;)
Still trying to push that it was intentional….I thought all the Cavs fans followed LeBron to LA?
I been a Portland fan since the BRoy, LMA, Oden days. I would feel the same if Olynyk had tried to hurt any player in the league, I’m not biased because it was Kevin Love who I literally don’t care about. I know about who deserves to be injured and who doesn’t. Anyone who inflicts injuries on other players and plays dirty 100% deserves whatever injuries come to them.
1. He didn’t deliberately try to hurt Love. Olynyk isn’t a jujitsu master who can dislocate arms at will.
2. No one “deserves” to be injured.
3. His injury is minor.
How do you feel about Al Horford injuring Justise Winslows shoulder after the game a couple of years ago? As a Heat fan, and Al Horford fan, I was a little salty, but I assume it wasnt entirely intentional…b/c nobody is trying to hurt someone else on the floor. Move on
Always great when you’re hardcapped, already only have 14 players, and an important rotation player gets injured in an exhibition game
Why can’t team canada have nice things :-(
He’s out for a week. Not a serious issue.
Looks like that evil villain Kelly Olynyk’s karma continues to be making 13 million and chilling out in Miami all winter.
Thankfully, b/c Heat really cant afford injuries this year, and they’ll likely have a bunch to worry about during the season, as they’ve had an insane amount of injuries since Lebron left. I’m not even sure if they’ve had their full roster for more than a couple of games. The only team with as much, or worse, injury luck in that time is probably New Orleans
