Yes, we’ve heard this before: the Knicks are planning to make a big splash by trading for or signing a star. In the latest edition of this Groundhog-Day-like news cycle (it’s Christmas so perhaps, we should use 12 Dates of Christmas as a reference), New York continues to have hopes of using its cap flexibility and assets to turn itself into a contender.
Marc Berman of the New York Post reports that the Knicks’ current “dream scenario” is to trade for a disgruntled superstarm and the franchise is expected to monitor Karl-Anthony Towns‘ situation. Towns, who signed a five-year, $190MM extension prior to the 2018/19 season, is from Metuchen, New Jersey, and the team has hopes that he would be open to playing for the Knicks should the Wolves ever consider trading him.
Berman writes that Bradley Beal remains on the Knicks’ radar. However, a source tells Hoops Rumors that the Wizards still aren’t entertaining trade offers for the shooting guard, who is ineligible to be moved until the 2020 offseason anyway.
New York has the assets to put together a pretty compelling package for any star that becomes available. In addition to their own picks, the Knicks have two future firsts from the Mavericks as well as several young prospects. The franchise could have more long-term assets if it makes future-looking trades at the deadline, such as moving Marcus Morris.
Trading for a star appears to be the Knicks’ best chance at landing a one and with the Timberwolves dwelling in the cellar of the Western Conference, it’s fair to wonder whether Towns and Minnesota would each welcome a deal. Still, any deal for Towns appears to be far away, as the Wolves have given every indication that they are not open to trading their franchise center.
did they give up on landing giannis already?
The wolves are in the west
My future thinking got the best of me. Good call.
superstarm
Wolves are in the West
Slow news day ??
Only thing that gets this franchise right. Is following thru on rebuilding. Another lottery pick this yr. Even 10 – 14 will net a solid big (PF, C). Fixing PG situation is priority imo.
They’d have to trade everything for Towns and then hope he wants to stay on a way worse team than the Wolves. Classic Knick thinking
Lol. Pretty much. They’re worse than the TWolves even before they give up stuff
To get Towns. Just so stupid.
I think you can build a package around Ntilikina. Lol I mean its simple… start with RJ, knox, and this year’s pick, both mavs picks.
RJ barett is not going anywhere
You’re dreaming if you think the Knicks wouldn’t have to give Barrett up in a Towns deal.
RJ is literally the only asset the Knicks really have. He has potential but not that much trade value right now.
Uhm Mitchell Robinson is one of the best shot blockers in the league, and marcus morris is having his best season ever clearly you do not watch much. and you also have not watched daymon dotson either.
So what? None of second two guys are worth acquiring for towns. Mitchell Robinson is so overvalued, especially by Knicks fans. Fouls too much to stay on the court.
lmao you clearly have no clue what you are talking about so this conversation is over.
5.8 fouls per 36′ so you’re tossed too. MR is only parttime so far.
Robinson is ok, but he wouldn’t make a dent in a deal for a guy like Towns.
He is the best shot blocker in the league .lmao smh have you even watched the knicks?
Ntilikina is horrendous. He’s not going to net anything back.
‘We’ll trade you 5 average dudes for your above average guy’. Playoffs!
KAT to the Sixers,
Embid to the Knicks,
Randle, Barrett, Robinson, Bolden and 2 first to the Wolves
Sixers have the shooting to surround Simmons with. For Towns lack of defence we have Horford who is a great defender. Knicks get a huge personality and arguably the most dominant player in the league. Pair that with Kevin Knox, Dennis Smith Jr, a top draft pick and some cap space. The Wolves get a great bunch of young talent and some first rounders. Similarly to what the Pelicans got back for AD.
Wolves would have a young group of Culver Barrett Randle Bolden Robinson Wiggins Okogie and Bell.
Barrett and Wiggins are a nice Canadian duo which will provide the offence along with Randle. Robinson is a replacement for Towns. Would be a good group of developing players, plus you’d have Teagues expiring deal and Deings next year.
Lol no way the wolves give up their franchise piece for rj freaking barrett & Julius randle Lol..
You have nobody going to the 76ers
No worries the knicks would be fools to trade barett he is going to be as good as harden in 2 years
James Dolan burner account
Lol. This is such a laughable take.
What are you smoking Mark?
First of all towns is not going anywhere secondly neither is rj barett , as for julius randle he is 24 and starting to destroy teams you newbies need to get a league pass. lol
I agree Towns isn’t getting dealt to the Knicks for sure. They have less ammunition for a player like that then most teams.
It would obviously never happen but thought it was a funny idea. KAT to the Sixers would be ideal for Simmons style of basketball. Embid would suit living in NY perfectly and be a great head of that franchise. The Wooves get to fully rebuild with a bunch of great pieces.
They would have Barrett who will develop into a great player, Randle who is already almost a 20-10 guy, Mitch Robinson who is a great shot blocker and is still developing, Jonah Bolden is another experiment at the 4 and then 2 first rounders.
AD was traded for Ingram, Ball, Hart and 3 first (I think), for KAT the Wolves would be getting 4 young players and 2 first.
If the Knicks trade Barrett, 3 future firsts with zero protections, Mitchell Robinson, and any other player they have… I still don’t take that deal if I’m Minnesota. Towns could still be a top 10 player. They should expect a package like New Orleans got for AD.
All this big-market media speculation about small-market superstars wanting to jump ship to play for the Knicks, literally the worst franchise in pro sports, needs to stop.
If he goes to New York, it’s to Brooklyn. Full stop.
LMAO first of all he is not getting traded ,Brooklyn has nothing for him and mitchell robinson and barett are cornerstones not trade pieces.
News flash: Robinson and Barrett ain’t as good as Knicks fans think they are…
You would be an absolute fool to not take that deal. Barrett and Robinson are excellent young players with upside. Three unprotected first rounders from the Knicks could easily be three top 10 picks. You take that in a heartbeat.
LMAO first of all he is not getting traded ,Brooklyn has nothing for him and mitchell robinson and barett are cornerstones not trade pieces.
Its almost 4am and i must be smoking crack, mitchell robinson ya say? The sad is that the Knicks probably view robinson in the exact same manner. Realistically barrett cant be the center piece in a move for a guy like KAT, even with first rounders attached that seems like an easy balk. Maybe earlier this season they could have but not now. Beal on the other hand would be classic dolan. And i could see them somehow being able to move everyone and pick not named barrett to get a beal deal done.
Brooklyn has more tradeable assets than the Knicks. That’s not saying much though. Barrett and Robinson don’t have that much value in the first place.
Brooklyn ChiNets are not NYC, neither Chinatown.
Trade em every point guard ya got plus picks for KAT and assemble the pure power forward lineup!
This shouldn’t be in the Mavs feed. It’s not a Mavs rumor and doesn’t directly affect them.
Just BS being floated by Mills. He traded his (supposedly disgruntled) young All Star for a bag of nuts, so let’s pretend it’s a thing. It obviously isn’t. KAT can be as disgruntled as he wishes. Until he’s closer to his second extension, it really doesn’t matter. Any trade for him will start with him asking and Minny deciding it’s in their best interests, and neither will reduce the price.
In any trade for cats you don’t include RJ Barrett and Mitchell Robinson. We need to keep those two young players no matter what. Call Anthony towns is a franchise player and I would make everyone available except for those two. I do hate to give up Elfrid Payton because I think he could be really good in a good situation
Those are literally the only two players who have trade value, and they wouldn’t even make a dent in a deal for a player like Towns.
No one in the league wants Elfrid Payton.
Barrett and Robinson is a woefully inadequate return for KAT. Barrett has a long way to go. I’m skeptical Robinson can be a starting center in this league.
You are skeptical robinson can be a starting center ? he started last season and led the league in block shots. smh bruh go to sleep.
I would cry if Towns ended up getting traded to this abomination of an organization. Not that I expect it to happen of course.
They’d be better off trading for Paul. All of this nonsense about trading all your assets for a star is pointless.
If OKC will toss in a couple of one’s id consider it.
Drummond and Paul to NY
Adams and DSJR to Detroit.
Randle, Taj, Portis and Ellington to OKC.
What would the Knicks even trade?! Those stupid late first rd picks they got from the Mavericks aren’t that valuable. The Knicks have fewer tradeable assets than about any team out there.
Why would Towns ever want to go backwards
Towns to GSW to pair with DLo?
