Less than a week after one report indicated the Knicks are monitoring Karl-Anthony Towns‘ situation in Minnesota in the hopes of eventually making a play for the Timberwolves star, Ethan Strauss of The Athletic writes that the Warriors are doing the same.
According to Strauss, Towns’ situation was a popular topic of conversation among team executives at this month’s G League Showcase, with some of those execs believing that the 24-year-old is unhappy in Minnesota.
Towns has been better than ever this season, averaging a career-best 26.5 PPG to go along with 11.7 RPG, 4.4 APG, 1.3 BPG, and a .514/.418/.796 shooting line. However, the Timberwolves have slumped after a strong start and currently have an 11-20 record, good for 13th in the Western Conference.
Despite the Wolves’ struggles, the franchise is extremely unlikely to consider trading Towns anytime soon, as Darren Wolfson of SKOR North tweets. The big man is in the first season of a five-year, maximum-salary contract and can’t reach the open market until 2024.
Even if Towns expresses dissatisfaction with his circumstances, the Wolves are more likely to make moves to improve their roster around him than to send him elsewhere. So while the Knicks, Warriors, and the rest of NBA will continue to keep an eye on Minnesota, Wolves president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas figures to remain focused on acquiring upgrades that can make a Towns-led squad a contender.
DLo and their first rounder for KAT who says no. Teague is in the final year of his deal and Minnesota could take Wiseman as a center replacement.
It’s gonna take more than that for KAT.
D’Angelo and 2 first round picks, maybe. Probably 3.
Warriors lack picks to make that trade. D’lo their first rounder and Pascall would be a fair trade. Pascall is worth a first round pick and with Towns he would be expendable.
I think Smailagic is a better chip than Paschall, who after a hot streak has hit a wall, but agreed Dlo, Paschall and the top 5 pick is worth it.
Funny thing is Minnesota keeps saying they want to pair Dlo and KAT together, as they are friends but the Wolves already chased away the superior Butler because KAT hated him. Seems to me like player is running team here? Not just Bron!
But yeah KAT is for sure the 3rd splash brother, he’s shooting over 40% on 8+ 3’s right now, only Steph, Klay and Ray Allen have done that over a full season!
Has hit a wall? Paschall has been hurt
Still not enough !
Yep, it’s not even close to being enough. Anyone who makes a trade for KAT will have to offer something at least close to what they got for KG 12 years ago. Minnesota would laugh at trading KAT for just D’Angelo, Paschall, and the Warriors first round pick.
Warrior fans are the new Laker fans. Thats a comical deal and no your g leaguers getting a ton of playing time dont have value to bring in a star. “Curry, Thompson, Draymond, Giannis, KAT 2021 lineup!”
Virtually no one outside the media has speculated for anything like that. No way are warrior fans anywhere near as bad as Lakers fans. Lakers have only ever won in watered down years with no real competition. Even in the Kobe era he couldn’t win until MJ retired. Lakers fans are the worst, and I still laugh when you challenge a Laker fan to name the lakes in LA. GET OVER IT, warriors fans aren’t the homers that live in LA.
Kobe and MJ were at opposite ends of their careers when in the leauge togethere, thats honestly the dumbest thing I have seen from you and a pathetic try. Imagine talking about competition when the Warriors faced the same team 4 finals in a row. And your so obsessed with this Lakes in LA thing lmao. There are names across sports that dont really match their city, who cares? No one other than silicon valley whine and cheese sticklers.
If warriors were the new laker fans there would be trade offers like Burke, Robinson, and Stein should net Towns easily even throw in a 2nd round pick. Now that would be the type of trade a laker fan would say is a fair deal.
You literally said above Dlo, a g leauger and a who knows 1st rounder would be enough for years of KAT. Delusion at its finest.
Only a delusional Warriors fan would even suggest that and call it fair trade. Just look at what the Pelicans got for AD: Lonzo, Ingram, Hart, and 3 first round picks. The Wolves probably wouldn’t get quite that much for KAT, but it would have to at least come close.
Minnesota says no lol
MN not only says no , but they belly laugh for 5 minutes before they can catch their breath to say no. DLo and 2 firsts and 2 2nds would do it I’d assume.
Not sure that’s even enough.
Can someone remind me why on earth KAT locked himself up for all those years? I k is it was a lot of money, but couldn’t he have hit the market way sooner?
Every player takes the rookie max extension it’s a foregone conclusion
No way he gets traded this early in the extension, way more likely they trade for his buddy DLo in an attempt of to make him happier with their other assets.
DLo and Burks for Wiggins and a lottery protected 1st.
We get to try to mold Wiggins into a KD lite, basically a combo forward who can create offense by himself so it’s not all on Steph and Dray. Plus we can squeeze a 1st in a Burks trade this way which we prolly can’t otherwise. But most importantly the Wolves get a buddy for Towns and maybe dream of acquiring Booker in the future to complete that love triangle.
Have you seen how utterly incompetent the Wolves front office has routinely been? KAT already has wasted a bunch of years, he’s not going to be on a contender even with Dlo, he probably sees GSW as knowing how to win and actually wanting to win a lot more than Minn.
Agreed. Wolves have him locked up for a long time, they have all the power here not KAT. Make him happy but getting DLo. Seems obtainable although I do not want to see Covington on the warriors
Wiggins has negative value. It would take lots of picks to get dlo and have the warriors take Wiggins off their hands.
Warriors want towns : dlo plus 4 first rd picks.
Knicks want towns : Barrett, Smith jr, plus 3 first rd picks.
All picks with no protection.
Blahahahaha haha
KAT simply isn’t worth it. He’s a far cry from Davis.
Not really if you consider that 3 of GS 1st rd picks would be late in the 1st round . As for the knicks neither of the players they are sending back are even close talent wise.
Minny would just screw up the draft anyhow….Our drafts have been bad from the inception of the team.
Lol I don’t like DLo but he’s 5 times as valuable as Barrett and Smith Jr will ever be.
Warriors can trade only 2 firsts, that has not all this value… With curry and klay come back + eventually KAT himself
KAT deserves a lot more than this.
He deserves a lot, but will he get it and will Minnesota want to keep him after he’s already driven away a superstar in Butler.
You have everything wrong. The allNBA is not gathering in Oakland and the Wolves did not chase away Butler. Butler forced his way out for financial reasons. Butler wanted a max salary and the Wolves did not have room for a third.
IDK who strikefour is a fan of but I think he’s the only one adding Towns & Giannis & maybe more to Curry, Klay, Dray, etc.
Timberwolves are a trash franchise. Literally have kg, kevin love and towns and still manage to never win. Most teams would be lucky to have that much talent come around in a 15 year period.
They also passed on Curry in the draft – if any franchise deserved to be contracted, its the terrible Wolves!
Passed on Curry TWICE!!! But in their defense Curry and his dad were pimping them saying they would’nt play for MN
Why NBA is getting less popular….players forcing their way out all the time.
I don’t think KAT would fit well in GS. KAT’s not really an up tempo center. I think Capela would fit better.
Indiana seems like the team best position to make a run at Towns. They can offer Sabonis (who seems happy playing in a small market), Brogdon (a great player that they don’t absolutely need once Oledipo comes back), and at least a couple firsts (maybe 3 or even 4). And it works despite the poison pill on the Sabonis contract.
It’s a strong offer, and it sends KAT to the Eastern conference so Minny won’t have to see him very much. But I’m not sure Indiana wants KAT all that badly…Sabonis is pretty good, and they’re all about continuity.
And to those who think that KAT can’t force his way out of Minny because he’s got 4 years left, you haven’t been paying attention to the NBA. All he has to do is threaten to publicly demand a trade, and Minny will have to start making calls.
To be fair, what max contract has been traded with four Years left, excluding swapping toxic max contracts like CP3 and Russ? I’d be highly surprised if this has ever happened with all start talent since the team has all the leverage here. The team also has suffice time to remedy the situation which is exactly what I think the Wolves will do and realistically by trading for DLO to keep KAT happy
I hear you – KAT demanding a trade this early in his deal would be unprecedented. But that doesn’t mean he won’t do it.
I can’t imagine why KAT would NOT do it, honestly. He’s a forgotten player in Minnesota, with no prospects to win during his prime. The team doesn’t have much talent besides him, they’re on their fourth coach since he was drafted, and Glenn Tayler is inept.
Minny fans might hate him if he says he wants out, but that only forces the Wolves to try even harder to trade him. He should take a page from Butler’s book and force his way out, scorched Earth style.
The reason they are slumping is because he hasn’t been playing in what, two weeks???
If they trade Towns instead of trading to build around him they should just move the team to Fairbanks
I honestly cannot believe the amount of people that are legitimately buying into this absolute BS
Grats on the clickbait jackpot Luke Adams
It’s amazing how little Warriors fans think that Minnesota would be willing to accept in a trade for Towns. It wouldn’t necessarily have to be as much as the Lakers gave up for AD, but they’re not going to just give up their best player since KG for nothing.
Maybe since the Wolves are feeling so generous about giving away talent below value, they can trade Robert Covington for Nene, Sefolosha, Tyson Chandler, Gerald Green and a second round pick?
If anything the Wolves’ll try to trade for Russell while keeping Towns. Maybe Russell+Burks for Teague+Vonleh+Reid+2 1st rounders might get it done. Then the Warriors flip those picks and theirs for another major piece.
I think Covington would have to be in the package. Maybe covington, teague plus…
Boston needs size and Jaylen Brown is turning into a Star….but his game is very similar to Tatum. Brown for KAT?
No way.
So Wiseman, DLo, Wiggins, Okogie, RoCo, Culver as the core? Plus maybe 1 more asset from GSW? Not terrible all hinges on Wiseman’s upside.
Crazy they would move him after signing him. But it’s not looking good there. Only way is if Warriors pick means Wiseman. Then they can go all out rebuild, retool. Russell is great for Knicks. They can do three way. Get All young players and picks. Dotson, Ntili, Smith jr, Portis, 2021 pick. Warriors would have to throw in another pick.

Breaking news: Wolves trade Towns to [insert fanboy suggestion here] for a wet mop and a half eaten bag of Cheetos
overpay
Teams (other than the Knicks) don’t just wake up one day and decide to trade a 24 year old AS player that they control. There has to be a reason, and it’s hard to know what that might be. In any event, the interest Minn had in DLo was principally that KAT wanted to player with him. DLo, if he’s even an asset at all with his contract, is barely one. KAT may not be quite on the same level as AD or PG13 (and the KL factor isn’t there), but KAT is younger and locked up for 4 years. That means 29 teams can bid on him. Nuts to think he’s going to be available for a negotiated price. It will be whatever Minn says it is, and they may get above asking.
