The Sixers could reduce Ben Simmons‘ role as a primary ball-handler, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer writes.
“That needs to be continued to be grown,” coach Brett Brown said of the primary ball-handling role. “It will mean. It will mean. I’m not saying, ‘It may mean.’ I’m saying it will mean that he’s not the primary ball-handler when you put him in those situations …
“So really, it’s a goal and sort of the growth of Ben to put him in all these environments where he’s really good at and can impact the game at.”
Here’s more from around the Eastern Conference:
- With the Sixers in action against Atlanta tonight, I examined which Hawks players Philadelphia should have interest in trading for. Jabari Parker might be the best fit, as the 76ers could use another scorer off the bench.
- Orlando’s grip on a playoff spot is slipping and Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel takes a look at what strategy the Magic should take heading to the trade deadline. The team could use another wing if it intends on being a buyer at the deadline.
- Should the Hornets trade Malik Monk? Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer gives his take on the former No. 11 pick.
Ben Simmons isn’t LeBron, they need a true PG.
But it doesn’t get much worse than losing to Atlanta.
Offseason trade proposal
Toronto sends Lowry and a bunch of picks for Simmons
Philadelphia hangs up.
Immediately
That quote by the coach begs for satire, but it may represent a big change. As far as I know, HR has only reported Brown saying that Simmons should shoot 3s more often. Now it’s “all these envirionments”, and Pompey’s headline was “Sixers to reduce Ben Simmons’ role as primary ballhandler”.
So starting will be Burke, Neto, Milton? Hopefully the Sixers do not bug Thybulle or Richardson with this job. I have advocated Burks but PG would be a stretch. Trade options are not great.
If the coach can pull Simmons from PG duty just like that then maybe it hasn’t been Simmons’ clout.
Here’s where a take-off of “it will mean” could come in.
*…Simmons’ clout keeping him as PG.*
Simmons for Russell swap, it’s gonna happen.
That would be crazy
That would need to include a 1st from GSW. Simmons > Russell in everything but shooting. Especially basketball IQ, maturity, and common sense.
Philly overrated. Enjoy watching the playoffs after your first round exit
I’m not sure if it’s the way Brown is edited but he seems somewhat of an inarticulate man, or perhaps an inappropriately open or emotional person… Either way it could be seen as symptomatic of his poor coaching – poor communication, flipping the switch between being a friend and being a manager.
Philadelphia have clearly lost their way; the process has yielded an oft-injured Joel who flashes tantalising potential and a non-shooting enigma in Simmons. Why they choose to surround these two with two power forwards and an average shooter is beyond me.
It’s like we’re hearing only one side of an argument. There may be dissension in the club.
