As Lonzo Ball‘s younger brother LaMelo Ball prepares for the NBA Draft this summer, the elder Ball brother believes the potential first overall pick would be a fit for the Knicks, Marc Berman of the New York Post writes.
“Whoever has the No. 1 pick, I feel like that’s who’s gonna get him,” Lonzo said to the Post scribe. “He’s been in the spotlight since he was 15, plus I went through everything he’s gonna go through. So he always has me to fall back on.
“But what he did overseas, what he did in high school, I think it’s a fair choice [as the No. 1-overall pick], honestly. He’s been killing grown men in Australia, which is a very good league. So I expect the same thing here. It’s different for everybody. Hopefully, it happens from the first game. That’s what I’d love to see.”
LaMelo, 18, is currently in Australia with the National Basketball League but is sidelined with a foot injury. However, the injury is not considered serious enough to put his draft status in jeopardy.
It’s possible the Knicks — who landed R.J. Barrett with the third overall pick last year — could land the first overall selection this summer. The team currently sits third in the lottery standings, as our Reverse Standings show.
“Wherever he lands, he’s gonna help out a lot. Anybody could use him,” Lonzo said of his brother.
If the Father is involved I would pass. His act with the Lakers was disruptive. Last thing Knicks need is more circus.
Agree and Lonzo has no idea what the Pelicans need and knows even less about what the Knick’s need. Anyone with the last name Ball is what they DON’T need.
LaMelo Ball is exactly what the Knicks need
Imagine thinking Lavar means anything in 2020. Guy has been silent for 2 years now. If Lamelo is good enough then the Knicks should absolutely take him.
He’s silent, not by choice.
Lonzo was traded from a prime media market in Los Angeles to New Orleans..not exactly a good team with a history of success or a media juggernaut.
But, which city has an even bigger, and harsher, news media than Los Angeles? Yup, New York.
Knicks should stay away from LaMelo. The spotlight is even bigger in New York than Los Angeles and when LaMelo isn’t the answer, there is no answer long as Dolan owns the team, Lavar will interject himself.
Lavar talking trash about Dolan sounds fantastic and we should all be here for it
I’m with AMK. Let’s goooooo
laMelo is not as great as the media pretends. The league he is playing in is a division 3 college level competition. 1 team that is picking lotto scouted LeMelo and went away still not sure about him. He does have a better shot than his brother but he is no sure thing to be a great NBA player.
The ANBL is not DIII level. If you have no clue what you’re talking about, you should probably stop talking.
When was the last time anyone has heard from Lavar? Time to move on from him being a reason to stay away from his kids because of him.
greg1 Probably has more to do with the fact that the spotlight and big market of LA is gone since Lonzo got traded to the Pelicans. He probably doesn’t get much attention there. I don’t see any reason to believe he wouldn’t start up again once one of his kids are back in a place like LA or NY.
ESPN put him on the PNG list…Persona Non Grata…Nobody but Fox Sports News will touch that guy. The little loud mouth Skip will put him on his smut sports show. LaMelo is a bust, just like Lonzo, always hurt. Crappy shot mechanics like his Daddy taught him. A franchise like the Knicks needs to make a better choice than LaBusto Ball…..
Like everyone says. No need to bring up the dad he hasn’t been in the media for months.
H?$$ NO. First the top 2 picks. Have to be Wiseman or Edwards. I don’t see him playing PG in NBA. Plus he got no D. I don’t want no part of him. At this point it seems best. To be sellers at deadline. To get assets and make major move at draft.
No one knows anything about his game. Stop it. He’s 18 and living in Australia. You have some sort of streaming service that allows you to watch games from down under?
It’s called the internet.
If it comes to it, Knicks will consider his fam and pre-pub, but that may not be a bad thing to acquire. Publicity on dad Lavar spares someone else the controversies and tiresome glare. Clowns are good for that!
Unless publicity is a good thing. Our President certainly makes use of it and none of his prospective opponents have enough.
Lol?
There’s no such thing as bad publicity. NY would be perfect.
LaMelo is a bust.. crappy attitude.. crappy work ethic.. shot mechanics are terrible and was already lit up by Australia coach due to attitude and work ethic.. ball boys don’t work hard.. that’s why lonzo is stagnant.. instead of working on his game he’s too busy trying to be a rapper.. doesn’t take care of himself physically and that’s why he’s always hurt..can’t be a superstar eating twizlers on your couch..
No. Lalalalala…

I wouldn’t be worried about his Dad, as such, but about the fact that he’s his Dad’s son, by way of genetics and upbringing. It’s certainly unfair to him, because he may not be defined by those things (jerks have great kids sometimes, but less often than non-jerks do). But, with the top pick or two in the draft, a FO can’t care about being fair to him, only to the franchise. He’d have to be clearly the best prospect for me to take him 1st overall.
Like Lonzo said… ‘Melo should be the top pick in the draft because “he’s killing grown men… IN AUSTRALIA!”
Sounds like Zo inherited the delusion gene.
In fairness to to Melo, there’s no player in this draft that is a game-changer for any franchise unless it’s a G-League one.
