The Pistons are open to discussing possible trades involving Derrick Rose, but their asking price is high, according to a pair of reports.
Sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic that Detroit is seeking a “lottery-level first-round pick” in exchange for Rose. Vince Ellis of The Detroit Free Press hears essentially the same thing, tweeting that Rose is unlikely to be moved unless a “high” first-round pick is on the table.
The former MVP is having an impressive year in Detroit after signing a two-year deal with the team last summer, averaging 18.9 points with a .498 FG% and 6.0 assists in just 26.7 minutes per contest (42 games). Those PPG and APG rates represent Rose’s best numbers since his last All-Star season in 2011/12.
Throw in Rose’s team-friendly contract – $7.3MM this season and $7.7MM for 2020/21 – and it’s easy to see why the Pistons’ asking price is high. According to Ellis, Detroit’s preference is to hang onto the veteran guard for next season due to his affordable contract and his influence on what will be a young roster.
Unless the Pistons lower their asking price for Rose within the next few days, a deadline deal seems unlikely. The teams that could use him most are contenders who may not even have a first-round pick at all this season, let alone a lottery selection. As such, it’ll be difficult for them to put together a package that meets Detroit’s criteria.
This is absolutely ridiculous. Any team who will talk to Detroit about Rose is obviously a team making a postseason run. It is this type of thinking by Detroit management the reason why this franchise has been a joke of a franchise for quite some time.
Yes it makes no sense since a playoff team unlikely has a lotto pick. they would have been given it in a trade. So how many teams can make that trade 1 or 2 teams/ No non-lotto team is going to trade for rose.

Enter the Boston Celtics and the Memphis pick.
Problem with that is Memphis currently sits in 8th in the west. Hence no lottery pick. Boston doesn’t need Rose anyway. They have Kemba, Smart and Hayward as ball handlers plus all three can shoot 3s and play D which Rose can’t. All Boston needs is big that handle Embiid. Those are pretty hard to come by though.
It would be cool to get rose back in Chicago, let Coby learn from him and trade Lavine for some random Detroit Tiger player…he plays just as good as defense as Jacoby Jones on a basketball court
Makes sense any team that gets rose is getting a impact player on a great contract
But why would a lottery team want a Rose?
That’s the part that’s outlandish
Rose to a contender, YES
Rose to a non contender makes zero sense for the non contender
So if you want to trade him to a contender, you’re not getting a lotto pick
If you don’t trade him, hes probably walking
Better to get a late first or a few 2nds instead of nothing right?
Also doesn’t mean they won’t take 2 – 1st in the mid 20’s or a promising young player and a pick. A 3rd team could also come to a contenders rescue for a nice package deal.
Still a lot of wiggle room. Just that cheap it won’t be.
Oh ok
Just bc they want a lottery pick doesn’t mean there getting it , it’s statement to the contenders that want him to come w something legit bc this is what his value is worth .. He would be a great fit alongside Butler , LeBron or the Celtics.
I agree he would be good in Miami or LA. But Celtics really don’t need another guard or someone else that is best with a lot of touches.
Not a good fit with LeBron. He’s already publicly said he doesn’t like playing with him.
I understand they want a big return for him, but no one will give a lottery pick for him….or even a top 20 pick…..unless the Pistons were taking back an albatross contract
I think they could get the like 17th-22nd level pick for Rose without taking something bad. He is a value add for most contenders and a great 6th man to have in the pocket.
I think they will get a team to jump on it.. Most ppl don’t realize you can do three way trades in the NBA say something like this… Lakers trade kuzma to kings for a 1st and bog… Then trade that 1st to Det for rose.. You can work with rose salary alot easier seems he’s only making 7mill a year.. There are plenty of scenarios where a trade could work.. Teams are creative .. The way the season is going Det may be picking #1 anyway lol..
If the Lakers can trade Kuzma to the king’s for Bogdonovich they should just stop right there and call it a day.
I wouldn’t take these type of “releases” too literally. This is the right thing to put out there before deadline week if he’s not being shopped. I would shop him, but I can see where one could disagree.
Still, not shopping doesn’t mean they won’t trade him (and for less than a top 10 pick), but it does mean he isn’t just available to the highest bidder (if that bid is still quite low).
Lol
No contender has a lottery pick ?? They’re the only ones who would want Rose. IMO he fits best with Both LA teams, or Sixers. Isn’t Kuzma from Michigan area? Then makes sense to move him there. Pistons would be smart to go this way. Kuzma is still getting better. He’d have a lot of support there. Lakers are in win now mode. Both should try and make this work.
I love Rose, he is the entire reason I got back into basketball. BUT Kuzma is way more valuable.
lol ok they went too far…. a contender is trading for him not the Knicks.
This “demand” just means they are valuing him for their own team to read, and would rather not move him. Doing this “leak” at all for Rose but not Drummond or Griffin sends a message about who it is that sets the team’s tone.
*who management wants to set the tone*
The Bucks will give them Dragan Bender for Rose. He was a lottery pick.
DRose for Zhaire Smith and Jonah Bolden
Off the record, I am only willing to date Jennifer Aniston level ladies. I will listen to other offers, but I am only interested at the Jennifer level. Ladies, the deadline is approaching.
