The Warriors have officially ruled out Klay Thompson for the season, Nick Friedell of ESPN.com passes along. The shooting guard continues to rehab from a torn left ACL he suffered in last season’s NBA Finals.
“This is what I expected from the beginning given the severity of the injury,” coach Steve Kerr said. “And the normal timetable [for recovery], and so here we are. It’s no surprise.”
Golden State’s medical staff made the final call on Thompson’s season. He remains on track to play at the beginning of the 2020/21 campaign.
Thompson could be ready by the time the Olympics roll around in the summer and Kerr said the sharpshooter could very well suit up in the games.
“It’s not off the table,” the coach said. “It’s still a possibility. We haven’t really discussed it. I think the [Olympic] team meets in July, so it’s still quite a ways away. But it’s really not anything we’re discussing at this point. It’s still a possibility … obviously his health is the No. 1 concern, and so we’ll kind of cross that bridge when we come to it.”
I periodically wonder how much more damage he did when he was jumping up and down in the dressing room to show the team he could keep playing in the finals.
None.
If he moved laterally, which I didn’t see him do, that’s where you do more damage. What I’ve read indicates he likely didn’t make it worse. Just thankful he made the last free throw
The Warriors will do everything they can to discourage both him and Steph from participating in the Olympics. They have to protect their investment the best they can.
I would let Thompson play. Doesn’t have a history of injury and will need to get back into game shape before next season
I don’t think they’ll discourage them curry. Curry will play, he only hurt a bone in his hand. With all those stars just finishing this long season I doubt they’ll practice much. And with all those stars, and how out of shape he’d be, I don’t know that Thompson would play enough to get in game shape.
AND I’m not sure with his inactivity he’d even be on the team
I do think they’ll discourage Thompson to some degree.
BTW, there are 44 finalists. No tryouts. There will only be a 12 man roster. Popovich will not take Thompson. Have you seen the list?
Interested!
I think pop will leave Steph and klay off for Kerr
Kerr is too old to play in the Olympics.
