Raptors shooting guard Norman Powell fractured the fourth metacarpal of his left hand and will be out indefinitely, according to TSN Sports’ Josh Lewenberg (Twitter link) and The Athletic’s Blake Murphy (Twitter link). Powell injured his non-shooting hand during the fourth quarter of the 35-14 Raptors’ 105-92 defeat of the 17-33 Pistons last night.
Raptors bench guards Patrick McCaw and Terence Davis appear to be next in line to supplement Powell’s minutes throughout his indefinite absence, Lewenberg notes in a separate tweet.
Powell has blossomed during his fifth season with the Raptors. The 6’3″ shooting guard out of UCLA had career averages of 7.1 PPG and 2.1 RPG coming into the year, but is essentially doubling those marks (15.3 PPG and 3.9 RPG) while shooting 49.8% from the field and 40.1% on 5.1 three-point attempts per game.
Man, the Raps can not stay healthy.
Speaks very well of the depth they have despite all the injuries.
Terence Davis has been a really nice surprise. Boucher brings great D and has had some nice stretches offensively. I wasn’t a Hollis-Jefferson fan at first but he’s been pretty solid. Vanvleet is a borderline all star. The depth is great I’m excited to see them shut up some Philly and Boston fans come playoff time
That sucks, I’ve been a Norm skeptic in the past but he’s been playing really really well lately.
For all the hilarious talk of the raptors being afterthoughts this year they’ve won 9 in a row and have the third best record in the league
Afterthoughts to stupid people…I had them 3rd or 4th in the East
They’re 2nd though
I had 2-6 bunched up
Anything else you “had”…maybe finishing 1-8. Lol
All these injuries are going to be blessings in disguise, as long as nothing too serious happens the Raptors are going to be fresh and rested come playoffs
Only 3 that need to be bubble wrapped going forward are Lowry Vanvleet and Siakam. They must be 100% or it’s a wrap
If OG or Norm go down TD can step in, if Gasol or Ibaka go down, Boucher is capable of giving scoring and D
