Trade talks between the Pistons and Suns involving Luke Kennard are on hold because the teams haven’t been able to agree on the level of protection for a first-round draft pick, tweets ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Phoenix appeared set to send a first-rounder to the Pistons in exchange for the 23-year-old sharpshooter, who is averaging a career-high 15.8 points and 4.1 assists through 28 games and hitting at a 39.9% clip beyond the arc. Young guards Jevon Carter and Elie Okobo were mentioned as possible trade chips heading to Detroit to help match Kennard’s $3.8MM salary.
The terms of the draft pick appear to be the only thing blocking the deal, and the teams have until 3:00 pm Eastern time on Thursday to resolve the issue. However, Detroit has started talking to other teams about Kennard, according to Vincent Ellis of The Detroit Free Press (Twitter link).
The Suns rank 12th in our current Reverse Standings, but could easily take several steps up or down the draft order.
They should not give up a first in this trade
I wouldnt give up an early second either … 3 point gunners are a dime a dozen
Kennard was a first round pick so they need to give up a first if they want him
Pistons are fromt office is a bunch of idiots.
Give up Kennard who is the only player on this team who has actually improved this year and he’s 23.
For two second round level players and a low first round pick…
The Pistons will pay Drummond 30 mil to get 15-15 for 5 years and not lead them to anything yet Kennard who has been in the league about 3 years and improved every year they don’t want…
I agree. The Pistons are idiots. If they’re entering into a rebuild, why give up a 23-year-old player. I wish I weren’t a diehard fan.
Must be hard
Just because a player is young does not mean he is automatically a part of the future. Maybe the Pistons don’t want him around for the future.
Kennard is a decent looking young player, but hardly irreplaceable. There are 5-10 guys sort of like him that come into the league every year, maybe more.
Then you only saw Kennard shoot, if you saw him at all. 5-10 right.
Five or ten players like him.
Kennard is good however Svi makes him expendable. They want that draft pick, which is the problem with sports teams today every new GM wants his own guys, they never seem to be able to work with the old parts, which sets a team back. Then when they get fired the cycle starts all over again. It used to be exciting now its just annoying
Way to connect big and small. Stefanski got tired of Kennard not taking over when the door was open, which is too big an ask. Kennard can be too conservative. The last I saw Svi, he thought he could make plays and tried to when he usually could not. Maybe he started to, maybe Stefanski got impatient. We will see but the team only has to adjust to one now. Casey probably prefers Svi considering the Pistons have disappointed the last two years.
So the Pistons refuse to get rid of Drummond and D Rose without getting a kings ransom, but they’ll give away 23 year old Kennard who is showing improvement? I thought my Kings front office was bad.
