4:03pm: The trade is now official, the Magic announced in a press release. President of basketball operations Jeff Weltman said in a statement that Ennis will add “shooting, athleticism, and toughness” to the team.
Orlando also confirmed the release of Amile Jefferson, which we noted in a separate story.
2:00pm: The Sixers have reached an agreement to trade James Ennis to the Magic in exchange for a second-round pick, tweets ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Ennis’ approval was required to complete the deal, adds Bobby Marks of ESPN (Twitter link). He has veto power over any trade because he’s on a one-year Bird restriction.
Philadelphia will receive the Lakers’ 2020 second-rounder in return, according to Josh Robbins of The Athletic (Twitter link). It would be 59th overall if L.A. remains in its current position in our Reverse Standings.
Because Orlando has a full roster, an opening must be created before the deal can be finalized. The most likely move is an early termination for Gary Clark‘s second 10-day contract, which expires tomorrow night.
The Sixers needed to clear two players off their roster after agreeing to a deal last night with the Warriors that will bring Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson III in exchange for three second-round picks.
Steal for the Sixers. Ennis has been utterly useless.
So are the vast majority of late 50s early 60s second round draft picks.
I actually think the opposite and Orlando also finally gets some help on the wing
This dude belongs in the G league, I don’t know how much help he’ll be for the Magic
Numbers say otherwise, and also I might be slightly biased as a Heat fan. Ennis’s biggest issue is his ball handling consistency offensively, and sometimes being a bit foul prone defensively, but otherwise he is a capable wing that can see rotation minutes
So can’t dribble
Offense is so-so
And can’t play D
Kinda sounds like me
Sounds like someone who still wants to trust the process.
Based on the limited resources sixers had. I think Brand did well at deadline.
People praising Brand confuse me. Yes. He upgraded the bench. Is that going to make the away record much better? The best deadline deal the Sixers could have made would have been to fire Brown last night. That would have put the entire team on notice and hopefully woke them up. Now you’re saying hey guys. We got you some help so when you get tired of playing like crap we can put someone else in to do it for you. Will miss Ennis in the playoffs.
The only way the Sixers get past the first round is if they can somehow finish in the top 4 in the east. Which won’t be easy since the Bucks, Raptors, and Heat are all basically locks to finish in the top 4. That leaves Boston, Indy, and Philly battling for the #4 seed.
Philly fans wanted more than a bench upgrade despite lacking recouses to get it. I think they got it though despite their urgings to get others.

Ennis was athletic & had a solid career but nobody was very impressed at signing time. Maybe they were right. I remember him hitting 3s in the playoffs but he was only 9 for 32.
