The Sixers will waive back-up point guard Trey Burke so they can complete a trade with the Warriors, tweets Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Philadelphia agreed last night to send three second-round picks to Golden State in exchange for Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson III. Because the Sixers had a full roster, two spots had to be opened before the deal could be finalized. In addition to cutting Burke, Philly is trading James Ennis to the Magic for a second-rounder.
Burke, 27, appeared in 25 games for the Sixers after signing as a free agent last summer. He averaged 5.9 points and 2.1 assists per game while sharing reserve point guard duties with Raul Neto.
Don’t tell his dad!
Can’t have more than one Burk on the team
Would have kept Ennis and Burke and tried to move O’Quinn or Bolden and cut Neto. The former 2 have been better than Neto, and 1 of the bigs may have grabbed them an extra tiny asset
Personally, I thought Burke had done pretty well for a stretch so, while I wasn’t as enamored with him at the start of the season, I would’ve liked to see him on the team over Neto but meh I’m not really attached to a lot of the back up guys we have on our roster. Getting Glenn Robinson III and Alec Burks and trading James Ennis away all involving second rounders only is a genius move. At least we didn’t lose any key guys this year, although we do still have some players who aren’t quite long term pieces, IMO.
