The Clippers are among the teams pursuing Timberwolves forward Robert Covington, Sean Deveney of Heavy.com reports. A package of their first-round pick this year, forward Maurice Harkless, and a young player such as Jerome Robinson or Terance Mann could be enough to secure Covington, Deveney continues. Grizzlies forward Andre Iguodala, Suns center Aron Baynes and Magic guard D.J. Augustin are among the other potential targets for the Clippers, Deveney adds.
We have more trade chatter:
- The Knicks have engaged in trade talks with the Hornets involving forward Julius Randle, Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer tweets. Charlotte would be a surprising landing spot for Randle, who has a guaranteed $18.9MM salary for next season. However, the Hornets have three frontcourt players with large expiring contracts and will need reinforcements.
- The Knicks had talks with the Cavaliers which included center John Henson but those discussions have died down, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports tweets. Henson has an expiring $9.7MM contract.
- Celtics GM Danny Ainge would like to strengthen the team’s bench but doesn’t see the center position as a major weakness, Jacob Camenker of NBC Sports Boston relays. The Celtics are reportedly one of the teams interested in acquiring Rockets center Clint Capela. Ainge indicated the roster “probably too many really young guys” but claimed he’s content with Daniel Theis, Enes Kanter, and Robert Williams manning the middle. “We’re not getting beat at the center position,” Ainge said. “We’re getting 17, 18 points per night. We’re getting double-figure rebounds. We’re just doing it as a team.”
No thanks on that deal for cov
The Wolves should be able to do considerably better than that for one of the more underrated players on the trade market right now.
agreed
Harkless is like a junior Wiggins that Lillard made into a defensive-and-team player. Interesting if the trade happens. But IDK how any of these in the LAC-MIN help their new teams.
No way in hell. Rather keep cov then receive a late 1st and junk.
Exactly they can keep him n easily end up with a top 10 pick n more this summer considering Dario Saric brought back the 6th pick or else they can keep him n see what they have next season after making whatever other moves they end up making.
Randle automatically takes some of the burden off Graham and Rozier while giving them their best front court player since Al Jefferson
I would love for the Mavs to get Randle. I think he’d be lethal in the pick n roll with Luka and KP and the rest of the shooters spreading the floor.
Doncic would find Randle on the run and opponents would get out of the way.
I don’t think Mavs have any assets to get Randle. Given that Knicks already own two future 1s from Mavs acquired in Porzingis trade it’s not draft picks. Knicks are not in salary cap hell so this is not a salary dump. So what exactly could Mavs give?
What kind of spirit is that? Go get the big fella. I’d do Randle for Kleber, Lee, GSW 2nd, and elimination of protection on 2023 pick, AND take Ellington into TPE.
Watch Randle play, and consider whether he may think he is Doncic.
The Clip should be all in this year. Go get Drummond. He would fit perfectly. Who cares if he ops out at years end.
I want Covington for my Lakers at a reasonable deal lol!!!
Kuzma and id think about it.
I’d do Kuzma and a first round pick. Covington is literally the perfect player for any one of the top teams. His defense is underrated by people outside of Minnesota and Philadelphia n if he wanted to he could score a lot more but he’s unselfish by nature. Lakers-Clippers-Houston-Mavericks-Celtics all should be fighting for him especially the LA teams
At what point are the Cavs going to advise the Knicks that Henson is dead? Of course if the Cavs want Randle, it doesn’t really matter.
Henson is like Robinson… why
Henson’s 29, coming off injuries, with an expiring contract, is a 13 min a game player at this stage. Had the same kind of explosive athleticism, but its faded, and he never quite had Robinson’s length and timing. He’s not a piece the Knicks would pursue to build, only to jettison Randle (I think).
Knicks just want his expiring deal, that’s pretty much the only reason…
