Here are Sunday’s assignments and recalls from around the NBA G League:
- The Nuggets have recalled Keita Bates-Diop from the Windy City Bulls, announcing the news on social media. Bates-Diop was the No. 48 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, with the 24-year-old appearing in two games with Denver on the season.
- The Pistons have assigned forward Donta Hall to their G League affiliate in Grand Rapids, the team announced on social media. Hall is on a second 10-day contract with Detroit and is under strong consideration for a rest-of-season deal.
I have two things to say.
First, why is Donta Hall last name’s in the pronunciation on the BballRef list? It’s Hall, how hard is that to pronounce?
Second, Keita Bates-Diop’s last name is pronounced DEE-ahp, not JAHP, as in DeSagana Diop. I just thought that was very interesting.
i will always pronounce it “JAHP” i don’t care
If you say it fast enough they kinda sound the same. It’s not like saying his name as two different words, something like Dee-Op.
Pronouncing someone’s name right is just a matter of respect. I’m sure they would appreciate it.
In England foreign pronunciations of “footballers” were liable to be ignored, until they started broadcasting games for here. Too bad.
I think “Diop” is supposed to be like “Jhop” but English doesn’t feature it exactly. It’s hard to pronounce words different ways in different languages in one sentence, much less in one surname– (probably Keita’s rationale for Deeop).
Of course it can be done but the thought to express, the important thing, gets compromised.
Could try Baetsop. On TV they might just say Kata.
