7:21pm: The Warriors have confirmed Curry’s return (Twitter link).
6:30pm: Stephen Curry has received medical clearance to play in Thursday’s game against the Raptors, tweets Anthony Slater of The Athletic.
A source tells Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area that Curry’s trip to the G League was limited to just one day because plans were in place for him to play tomorrow (Twitter link). Another source said Curry will be in Golden State’s lineup barring some “catastrophic” occurrence.
Curry will return after missing 58 games with a broken left hand he suffered on October 30. With him and fellow Splash Brother Klay Thompson out of action, the Warriors have fallen to the bottom of the NBA with a 14-48 record. Curry was averaging 20.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists through the season’s first four games before the injury.
Interestingly enough, the Minnesota Timberwolves have announced that team physicians have given medical clearance for Jonny Flynn to return to action on Thursday !!
Next year when all healthy their bench will be battle tested with young players.
Do you see them all being held over? I only see a couple staying.
Only a couple, as in 2? Paschall, Poole, Chriss, Wiggins are definitely around next season. Smiley is to young to give up on. Dragan gets a two way contract.
Wiggins won’t be on the bench, probably not Chriss either. Smiley, Poole, and Paschall are the only others with guaranteed contracts. So call it three, which isn’t exactly a couple, but still close.
Things are apparently very literal here.
Idk if you’d classify Wiggins as part of the youth movement as you described. He’s a veteran. I see Chriss playing on another team to build on this year. I feel like they’ll only keep two of the remaining three since they’ll have their draft picks to consider and you don’t structure your win now roster with rookies and second years, so I’m sure they’ll bring in a few veterans, leaving less playing time and roster spots.
Both Chriss and Damion Lee can be released with partially guaranteed deals and will only cost $1.4M to get rid of, which is nothing when your top 4 guys are making $130M combined. There has to be a better starting center available this summer than Chriss.
They probably keep a versatile Criss (as long as they have Draymond). They could do better than Lee but he’s cheap too and a holdover. That makes 10 on an amazingly shallow existing roster. Adding 1 firstrounder leaves room for 4 FAs, probably 2 minimum wage and maximum exemptions of 4.6 & 17.2MM. I could be wrong; they probly go over this a lot in local papers.
Five newbis seems plenty for one year, which is good news for Lee in staying.
This may not be the year to have two r2s… They should be dealt because those top four will likely want (or need) breaks and a new “Iggy” needs to be found!
Who is a better FA center than Chriss? The list is out there. Name him.
I’m sure they’ll be better centers available during the offseason.
Why would you get rid of Chriss?
Because there’s no reason to believe he’ll continue his production next year since this year was a surprise. He was basically Jordan Bell. He fit what they do but he’s a dime a dozen.
What makes you you think the Dubs have a ‘win now’ attitude? They keep bringing in young players on 10 day contracts.
Because their corner stone is 33 years old. They don’t have time for the process. They’re in win now mode. This was just a lost year due to injuries.
Because it’s a lost year and they’re kicking the tires on next years bench. I doubt they do the same next year.
I agree with you, it could be a trade or two whih changes to the whole roster. That’s why Curry is playing right now to see if Wiggins is a match. If he’s not they can deal him away just like they did D’Angelo Russell. The great thing is they picked up Minnesota’s first round draft pick in the deal.
The possibilities are endless as far as putting together a championship roster here. They have 17 million dollar trade exception to use and Wiggins is a Max guy and they could throw a first-rounder or two and pick up a guy that matches up with this roster. Going to be a interesting offseason.
Playing for a 60-loss team makes them battle-tested?
Yeah, another reason why I don’t see most of this roster here next year.
Would Paschall get much playing time on a contending team?
Meet your Warriors bench next season:
Pascall
Chriss
Lee
Poole
Bowman
Smiley GLeague or 2 way.
Bender nope/opportunities elsewhere.
Starters: Curry, Klay, Wiggins, Dray, Looney (or Chriss.)
Considering the Warriors salary cap situation, that is an excellent bench.
Let’s see if they can still play as well not being starters..
Yup agreed. Fingers crossed !!
Looney is fragile. He goes to the bench.
Here’s a question that I have concerning this offseason. Who’s the guy out there that is available or unhappy and yet and all-League player? If Wiggins is not our man, who is?
Warriors can you use… Wiggins Max contract and/or $17 mil exception, 2 first-round picks, to get this new guy, whoever it may be.
I’m pretty sure that you can’t combine a trade exception and a player.
Thank you.
Otto Porter. For Wiggins. Porter is not an impact player for Boylan but he checks all the boxes for GSW. They need someone who can impact; anyway Porter hasn’t done it there, is more of an agreeable type like GSW needs.
