12:55pm: The move is official, the Warriors announced (Twitter link).
9:46am: Dragan Bender will sign a second 10-day contract with the Warriors, tweets ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The decision follows a story yesterday that Golden State was taking a wait-and-see approach to Bender’s future with the team. His first 10-day contract expired after Tuesday’s game.
Bender has played six games since joining the team, starting three and averaging 7.5 points and 6.3 rebounds in 23.3 minutes per night.
The signing will bring Golden State back to a full roster. Two potential openings will arise in the next week with Mychal Mulder‘s 10-day contract expiring Saturday and Chasson Randle‘s 10-day deal ending next Thursday.
Bender is not dumb. This is the best situation for him to prove he is NBA worthy showcasing his time with GSW. Look what it has done for Chriss’s career. Bender can prove to be a good off the bench player.
Good call. Nothing wrong with a second look right now if there’s no one else available at the moment.
i am guessing GSW offered the spot to another big man but was turned down. That might be why they waited to offer it to Bender.
Well I mean his 10 day expired only on Tuesday. I don’t think they waited. Might as well see what they have in Bender, 10 days and 4 games isn’t too much a sample size. He’s got a week or so under his belt with the team so let’s see if we see any improvements from him in after being in the system for a bit.
I’m thinking we start to see some continuity with the 10 day guys. I would expect Mulder to be back for another 10. Chasson Randle i think is gone now with Curry back and Poole/Bowman sharing the backup pg spot(when Ky returns from injury)
I agree with Randle will probably be gone. They should test out some more big men. maybe a center to back up Chriss next year.
I was thinking that or they were playing with the dates? Like to maximize the number of games he could play within the 10 days?
For Bender I believe you are correct
So this is what light years ahead is eh Meyers
Dracaras
Does this mean Draymond won’t play tonight?
Depends on how well his knee is doing. No need to rush it.
Especially right now..
No real need for Curry to be out there either.
At some point he needs to get out there. Why not now?
As an athlete I know if I’m hurt for extended period it takes a while to come back. Especially at my age, if I sit out 3 months for the Hammy it takes a serious 6 months just to get back into the flow of the game.
You could see Curry is Rusty out there tonight, these 20 games are a real big deal for him.
It is not the job of a bubble player to turn down a call-up, even a short one. And it’s not GSW’s job to deny themselves a potential talent. But Bender should get a long run in a growth environment, and the Splash crew should go for the top.
There’s plenty of time to learn to be a part-timer.
This is kind of why some seven-footers claim to be 6-11.
The Suns made a fantastic decision to let Bender go. Along with Chriss, Jackson, etc. They’ve proved us all wrong this year and showed that they are developing players and a team that is consistently mediocre! Can you imagine developing a 21yr old one more year?? It would’ve dropped them out of the playoffs and everyone would be laughing at them.
