New Knicks president Leon Rose is open to dealing Julius Randle despite Randle being a former client when Rose was a player agent, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post. Rose would also be willing to shed Randle’s contract after next season, even though Randle has a partial guarantee of $4MM on his $19.8MM salary for the 2021/22 season. Prior to Rose taking over, the Knicks had discussions with Charlotte before February’s trade deadline involving Randle, who reportedly upset some teammates this season with his ball-dominant style.
We have more from the Atlantic Division:
- Members of the Knicks organization last summer expressed confidence that Kevin Durant would have signed with them if he hadn’t suffered a ruptured right Achilles tendon in the NBA Finals, Ian Begley of SNY.TV reports. If that were true, Durant would have convinced Kyrie Irving to sign with New York instead of the Nets or recruited a different star to join him, Begley continues. The Knicks were not prepared last summer to offer Durant a max deal due to concerns from owner James Dolan regarding the injury. However, Durant has said publicly that he didn’t give the Knicks much consideration anyway, Begley notes.
- Forward Taurean Prince took a step back this season and that could lead to a dilemma for the Nets, Zach Lowe of ESPN opines. Brooklyn gave Prince a two-year, $25.25MM rookie scale extension prior to the season that kicks in next season. He could have been a trade chip this summer in a package to bring in another star but it’s unclear what kind of value he has now, Lowe adds.
- Kemba Walker would have remained with Charlotte for less than a super-max deal last summer but he knew that wouldn’t happen after meeting with Hornets owner Michael Jordan, Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe writes. Walker may have stayed put if the Hornets had offered him five years and approximately $180MM. The Celtics emerged as the most likely destination because they were already a playoff team and president of basketball operations Danny Ainge had been enamored with Walker ever since the point guard’s days at the University of Connecticut, Himmelsbach adds.
Randle, DSJ, for Rozier, Monk
Lmao no.
Charlotte doesn’t need Randle that bad that they’d give up Rozier and Monk.
They already have a decent option at PF in PJ Washington.
Hornets could use an upgrade at center but they should look to sign Andre Drummond, Aron Baynes instead, if they don’t sign those guys they should look into drafting Daniel Oturu or Vernon Casey Jr.
Also, Knicks should be looking into trading Randle to a team for a 1st.
I can see the nuggets trading the pick they got from the rockets for Randle. Millsap is older and Grant is a bench piece. Randle is a more proven commodity than what they’d draft in the 20s.
Millsap and Grant will be free agents at the end of the year. Randle can play the 5 or Washington can play the 3
So the nuggets have a need at pf….which is why they should trade for Randle. Cool. Thanks for explaining why I suggested the nuggets trade for Randle.
Millsap is 35. Grant has a player option for next year for about 9.3 mill. Even if he exercises his player option he’s more a bench piece than starter. Thus the nuggets would have a need for a pf. They could choose to go with Porter Jr. But trading for Randle gives them an immediate answer at the position on a decent contract.
The Nuggets have three to five PFs with PERs as good as Randle taking minutes and stats from each other. The Nuggets are tight and like to develop their own people; solo-style Randle would be a big change.
I doubt they think they need such a change. Anything that happens in the 19/20 playoffs probably will not change that.
Their problem is 2G where Harris is mysteriously declining.
Vernon Carey Jr is projected to be a mid- late first rounder because of concerns on the defensive end. The Hornets have a lottery pick. High chance itll be top 10 and potential top 5. They won’t reach for Carey
Right now hornets are #8.
If they stay at #8 they can always trade back for a team looking to trade up for one of this year’s pg and draft Carey later on while picking up other assets.
Tyrese Haliburton, Rj Hampton, Killian Hayes, LaMelo Ball could all be potentially available and a team could trade up.
Suns could trade up, Magic could trade up, Bucks could trade up.
Magic likely want to give fultz a legit shot. The sun’s have Rubio and the bucks are actually really solid at point moving forward. None of those three teams have a need to trade up. And vernon carey isnt the type of guy that a team necessarily trades down for due to concerns over his defense.
Suns have Rubio. Is that why many experts and mocks have them taking a pg?

Cool. They have Rubio. Should tell people who know more than you they shouldn’t be mocking pg to suns then.
Magic want to give fultz a look? So what do you call 59 starts, 28.4 minutes a game, shooting .254 from 3, and having a per that ranked 40th this year? You think an extra 5-6 mins a game will make that improve? Cool.
Well, it is a point guard heavy class. Nico mannion is likely a few years away. He is the PG I’ve been seeing the most. But those people that make those mocks are far from 100% correct. Those are the same experts that had Carsen Edwards, jordan Clarkson’s and marshon brooks going close to the lottery or in the lottery.. and 247 sports has the suns taking obi toppin so not all pgs… another year of a legit look at a lottery pick after pretty much one season could make sense …
Suns need a solid prospect of to back up to Rubio who eventually becomes the heir once his contract is up in 2 years. But yeah pg isn’t a need for the suns long term or anything. Gotcha.
Spot on, Sox. At 8 you have to go best player available and figure it out, as I imagine they will. Reaching for need with a lottery pick would only lead to regret.
I’m not sure they’d have to give up real value to get Randle? NY might just want a mulligan on the signing, being it hasn’t really worked. It’s the Knicks, so you never really know. I wouldn’t want Randle at that price, though.
Am I the only one laughing at the nicks thinking KD was going to sign there. That was not happening.
Why would the Hornets be interested in Randle?
To make salaries work it would have to be for Rozier who has played pretty decent and they also already have PJ Washington who was nice too.
Randle I still think would be handy for a few other teams but not the Hornets. Rozier to Knicks makes sense tho if the team isn’t interested in Cole Anthony or LaMelo Ball.
What about 3 team trade:
DeMare DeRozan to Hornets (sign and trade)
Terry Rozier to the Knicks
Julius Randle to the Spurs
Then Spurs swap Aldridge for Hassan Whiteside (1/28mil) and Nassir Little.
Hornets get a star to play SG, which means Graham runs point full time.
Knicks get Rozier who have have had interest in for ages.
Spurs swap out old for youth. Randle and Whiteside big expiring deal and Nassir Little.
That looks like a winner, though, Knicks would probably like to see how the draft works out first.
Randle with the Spurs & Popovich, instead of Derozan, very interesting. They should do something major, although I am more skeptical of LMA,
Randle is basically a yr contract. That’s why teams would do it. It’s true Randle is a ball dominant at times. But to me that’s coaching. RJ does it too. I don’t get how no team has tried and coach Randle right. He’s 20 n 10 candidate. That’s a serious player. People all followers today. Don’t sleep on low post play. It’s higher % FG. Plus with shooters you can play inside outside better than ever. Carey Jr is that kind of player. I see him best at PF. Needs to get in NBA shape and loose 10 LBs. Zach Randolph was never used right either. Yet he taught Gasol how to use his girth. And play in NBA. Both were all stars with Grizz. Carey can be that. In Randolph days they didn’t have shooters like now. He’s perfect for pick n roll inside outside game. IMO he’s worth taking at 10. But you have to commit to this n play this way. He’s a steal outside lottery.
