A recent rift between Jazz All-Stars Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert led to speculation that the Jazz may be forced to move one or the other this offseason, but that is not the case.
Mitchell and Gobert admitted to going through a rough patch after both players tested positive for COVID-19, with reports suggesting that Gobert was cavalier with teammates and their belongings leading up to his diagnosis. However, the two Jazz cornerstones are said to be repairing their relationship and are expected to remain together for the foreseeable future.
Utah has no plans to trade either player and Mitchell should be considered “untouchable” in trade talks, Tony Jones of The Athletic writes in his latest mailbag. Jones, who addressed a reader’s question on the matter, cites Mitchell’s talent as well as his involvement in Utah’s community and his contract status as reasons why the Jazz are unlikely to consider a move.
Mitchell has one more year left on his rookie-scale contract, though he’s expected to sign an extension this summer. Gobert has just one season left on his deal. The center will make approximately $26.5MM during the 2020/21 campaign.
Everybody is “untouchable” until the right offer comes around
With their illness history, I would think both players should be considered “untouchable” right now.
Haha hiflew, I gotcha, I laughed a little
Jazz need to put faith in Mitchell and they have been good with limited success since he’s entered the league.
They need to go and get some young players and help for him. He has already had 1 falling out with Gobert who’s 28, and he doesn’t really have any other stars. Conley is old and last it, Bogdan is nice but he’s not great.
I still like the Rudy Gobert for Spencer Dinwiddie, Taysean Prince and Jarrett Allen, for the Jazz but would the Nets do it?
Allen basically replaces Gobert like for like just not quite as good. Dinwiddie would be a great partner for Mitchell and Prince is a decent role player for salary matching.
no!
Thinking on that as a Jazz fan, yeah I’d do that except I’d want Tayhsuan Prince.
You would have to settle for Taurean
Who really cares hahaha T. Prince….
Either way Prince Dinwiddie and Allen would all be solid additions to the Jazz, particularly the later two
Nets don’t have the cap to give Gobert the extension he’s going to want. They would also only have lavert left besides the big 3 theyd form and depth is important
I don’t think Gobert wants a big extension and either way he doesn’t need one for a couple years. As for depth that would be a slight issue but being a team in New York and having two stars in Irving and Durant and playing in the easier eastern conference I’m sure they would do well getting vets for cheap in FA.
All sorts of teammates don’,t like each other in the NBA. this is a non-story.
Would you trade Monta Ellis? Bc this dude kinda reminds me of Ellis after like his 2nd or 3rd year in the league. Ellis was a nice player (italics) but he would be in that Michael Redd category. A scorer, a bucket getter. Not a focal point for a championship roster.
Gobert could make sense for the Celtics. Ship Gordon back to Utah lol.
Again not a bad idea but think the Jazz would want Hayward on a sign and trade at a cheaper salary, maybe (3 years 66mil, 22mil a year).
And they would also probably want a first round pick and Romeo Langford
Chicken parm?
I can’t believe donovan is only in his third year! If you make the all star team you shouldn’t be stuck with a rookie scale deal. Dude is being ripped off
