The Nuggets‘ acquired a first-round pick from the Rockets in the four-team, 12-player deal that sent Malik Beasley to the Wolves. That pick is currently slated to be the No. 21 overall selection and Mike Singer of the Denver Post examines five prospects the team could take at that spot in the first round.
Florida State guard Devin Vassell and Villanova forward Saddiq Bey are among the more intriguing options, in Singer’s view. Both players have range and could provide the Nuggets with depth, something that might be needed if Paul Millsap or Jerami Grant (player option) departs in free agency.
Here’s more on the upcoming draft:
- Nevada guard Jalen Harris has declared for the 2020 draft, Jonathan Givony of ESPN tweets. Harris, who averaged 21.7 PPG and 6.5 RPG in 30 games as a junior, is the No. 93 overall prospect on ESPN.com‘s big board.
- The Hawks could go a number of different directions with their first-round pick, which is expected to fall in the top five, Mark Schanowski of NBC Sports Chicago writes. Depending on where the pick lands, the team could look for a new backcourt partner for Trae Young (Anthony Edwards or perhaps LaMelo Ball) or simply go with the best player available.
- Some NBA teams want to delay the draft until at least August 1. Check out the latest on that, as well as some of the restrictions that teams are facing as they virtually evaluate prospects.
Nuggets have a great young team, Jokic Murray Harris Porter Jr plus youth depth players Morris and Bol.
I think they did a great job trading Beasley and getting a first round pick in return but they no longer need first round picks coming in, they need a stars and vets to lead the team and push them in the playoffs.
I still think they should be looking at Jrue Holiday, he fits the system perfectly with his combo guard ability and he’s an elite defender. Holiday was 20/5/7 for the past 2 years. It’s also worth noting Gary Harris has had injury issues basically every year. Then sign a vet FA for depth like Galloway or Moore.
I’d be looking at G. Harris plus this years first plus 2 seconds for Holiday.
1. Murray. Morris. Dozier
2. Holiday. Galloway/Moore
3. Barton. Craig. KBD
4. Grant. Millsap. Porter
5. Jokic. Plumblee. Bol
If Evan Fournier opts out of his contract with the Nuggets a reunion with the Nuggets would be a good destination.
If the Jazz are seriously considering breaking up Mitchell and Gobert that’d be another good option.
Maybe Mitchell for Harris, this years 1st (rockets), 2022 first, 2024 first.
Unless its Mitchell I’d look elsewhere for shooting help
Derozan, Fournier, Bogdanovic, and even lesser players like Burks, Glenn Robinson III could add shooting.
Fournier is a dud, Gary Harris is a better player. Mitchell would be a great fit and good player but at quite a expensive cost…
DeRozan would be nice but he’s really old and his game style won’t last well as he gets older.
Bogdan Burks and Robinson they are all role players and Nuggets don’t need role players for shooting they have Barton Porter Jr Bol.
I don’t think shooting is an issue for them at all I think they just need a star player with some experience to elevate them.
I’m not sure that the Pelicans would be looking to trade Holiday for picks as they have all their own 1st rounders through 2025 plus this year’s Cavs pick and all of the Lakers for years to come. Not to mention the Denver pick would fall in the 20-30 range and wouldn’t be worth much. With the breakout season Ingram had, Ball’s continued development and well…Zion I would think the Pelicans will be looking to solidify themselves at center and get some wing depth and try to contend.
“Ball’s continued development ”
Did he actually develop? His stats were really similar to his rookie season. He was downright bad in his second season, but aside from a slightly improved shooting percentage, I don’t really know how much he’s developed.
He shot .383 from deep that’s downright good. Ball is also one of the better defenders in the league for his position. He has always had great court vision and with Zion he has a finisher so those assists numbers will tick up as long as he and Zion stay healthy.
Ball has been solid and improved this year
Yeah I’m not sure they are looking to trade Holiday either but I wouldn’t be surprised.
If you watched pelicans games last year Ball Ingram and Zion all love to push the pace on offence and play fast, often Holiday and Favours slowed things down.
Gary Harris isn’t a bad player maybe him and a couple future first is enough
I don’t think that’s enough for Holiday
bol has looked good in the NBA huh….
Calm down he’s a second round pick who is really raw give him time
Because how deep the team is, this is the 2nd time in 3 years Nuggets under sold on a young player who broke out on the new team.
Exactly, no point drafting another young kid, developing him into something good only to trade him 3 years later for a first round pick again. All that happens from that is other teams get better
They’ve kept the guys worth keeping the most tho. And they draft well so their bench is good. You can’t keep everyone.
Post posted that Denver should look at a 2,3,3,4,& 5. That’s a scattershot list, whether or not he is looking at some inside reports. They need a 2 sure enough but Vassell will be gone at #21 and Nesmith isn’t quick enough.
They will need a 5 if Plumlee & Millsap both leave.
