Andre Iguodala hasn’t been with the Heat too long. He was traded to Miami back in February, but during his short time with the team, he has already figured out why the organization has such a good reputation.
“It’s the Heat culture, which is a different type of culture in terms of the connection you have, with not just your teammates but the coaching staff,” Iguodala said (via Ira Winderman of the Sun-Sentinel). “I see why they’ve been so consistent.”
Here’s more from Miami:
- In the same piece, Iguodala said the team was still figuring out how to play alongside each other when the NBA suspended the season. The former Finals MVP suited up in 14 games for Miami.
- Grading the Justise Winslow-Iguodala trade will come down to how Winslow performs in Memphis, Winderman opines in his latest mailbag. Winslow has yet to suit up for the Grizzlies.
- Duncan Robinson was in the midst of a career year before the NBA’s hiatus, as Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald writes. Robinson’s 243 made threes rank third in the league behind James Harden and Buddy Hield.
- In case you missed it, on Wednesday we passed along word that the Bulls haven’t sought permission to interview Heat executive Shane Battier.
That Iggy trade may look like a bad deal considering you gave a 36 year old an extension worth 15mil per year for 2 years for a guy that hadnt played all year.
But the deal also got James Johnson and Dion Waiters off the books. Both players had their distractions (Johnson conditioning) and Waiters (smoking weed and complaining) but both players also had 2 year deals with about 15 guaranteed to them each.
It cost them losing Justice Winslow but in return they added Iggy a vet role player, they cleared bad contracts for expiring deals (hill and crowder) and Crowder proves he might be worth keeping.
Heat had a great year, clearing deals (Johnson and waiters), discovering new young talent (Nunn, Robinson and Herro), and exceeding most people expectations.
Would be surprised if they pull off a shock signing this offseason like DDR, Millsap, Porter Jr or someone else or managed to grab someone for a really cheap deal like Millsap for 8mil
Agree completely, still a little iffy on the $15M for Iggy next year. Also think Riley should have dumped Hill to get under the Tax.
Over all it was a great trade deal.
Love to see a trade for Arron Gordon.
Nunn, Olynik, 2020 1st may get it done.
Also think Hayward is a dark horse for a 4/$100M deal. The Heat were his runner up not that long ago.
Yeah 15 mil for that extra year isn’t great but it’s much better than Johnson and Waiters.
As for the next deal I don’t think Gordon is worth a first plus young talent, especially Nunn who had a great year.
I’d be looking at Paul Millsap at about 12mil for a year or 2. He would help Bam down low a lot on defence and rebounding while on offence not clogging the paint and having some vet leadership.
Another good PF they could be interested in is Larry Lance Jr. His career seems to have staled behind KLove and Drummond. He’s signed long term on a cheap deal. He’s improved a lot adding a 3 point shot to his game yet he still plays physical. He also shares a love for soccer which Jimmy and Goran both have.
Millsap could be a team player and take the MLE somewhere but if the cap stagnates that probably goes out the window cause it’s too big of a drop off in $$ at that point
