Mavericks vice president of basketball operations Michael Finley has interviewed for the Bulls’ general manager job, Tim MacMahon of ESPN tweets.
Finley is a Chicago native who has spent the last seven seasons in the Dallas front office after a long playing career. Mavs owner Mark Cuban indicated in a radio interview this week he’d allow Finley to talk to the Bulls.
Chicago’s newly-hired head of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas has promised an “extensive and diverse search” for a GM. Chicago had already been granted permission to speak to Sixers senior VP of player personnel Marc Eversley, Clippers assistant GM Mark Hughes, and Magic assistant GM Matt Lloyd.
Thunder executives Troy Weaver and Nazr Mohammed have also had their names bandied about as potential GM targets for Chicago. However, based on a subsequent report, it would be a surprise if Weaver has interest in the job. Karnisovas has already added J.J. Polk and Pat Connelly in the first steps toward assembling a new front office.
DAVID KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHN!!
I recall a classy & hardworking Michael Finley setting standards at Wisconsin.
I’m not sure what Finley might actually represent in Mavs circles, but his playing appearance was so dark & frowny that calling him the dark-horse GM candidate comes to mind!
Glad bulls are tidying up the off the court staff and hopefully in a few years can start to build on the court
Racist
Nah, Finley should be a good choice. I think as a player he never got enough credit for being someone who could find a way, not just be a shooter. I can’t remember specifics except wondering why people were surprised he did well in the NBA, a Big10 MVP like Draymond Green.
Still, GM is a different job, so I have to hold some reserve.
Finley would be a popular choice. 7 years is a lot of experience, but not sure if Dallas is the best example of GM excellence in the NBA (although they did fleece the Knicks and the Hawks).
What do you mean DAL isn’t the best example? DAL has one of the best organizations in the league, is a very stable team & has one of the best owners in pro sports (if not the best)! I do think lots of teams would love to be like DAL, specially CHI will never be such a good run team.
