New York won four of seven before the NBA suspended the season, placing the team in the No. 6 spot in our Reverse Standings. If they don’t move up higher in the NBA draft lottery, the Knicks will have interest in selecting RJ Hampton, according to Marc Berman of The New York Post.
Hampton skipped the traditional post-high school route to the NBA, opting for the Australian NBL over the NCAA. Some around the game believe the 6’5″ guard is a top-10 player in the draft.
“I’ve watched him since eighth grade because he’s a Dallas kid,’’ said ESPN ‘s Fran Fraschilla said, as Berman relays. “He left the U.S. a top-10 to -20 prospect. He came home a top-10 to -20 prospect. He’s an NBA athlete but could be a project. I don’t know if he was as good as the hype accorded him when he left.”
Not everyone is as bullish on Hampton. One source told Berman that the youngster could fall into the back third of the first round as a result of teams not having a normal pre-draft process to evaluate talent. It’s worth noting that the Knicks have a second first-rounder, courtesy of the Clippers via the Marcus Morris deal. It currently projects to be the No. 27 overall pick.
Let’s hope he’s the answer at shooting guard. They have been looking for a reliable one since Allan Houston
Rj barrett?
They just drafted a SG third overall last season.
Ye whatever call me when Dolan sells the team
Sadly that won’t happen any time soon unless he dies
Cool hope he falls to the Sixers.
As a breakers fan I can tell you RJ Hampton is not the a top 3 PG in this draft.
He’s tall hence why he gets boards, he is a decent passer but he doesn’t have much of a shot. He’s similar to Barrett but not as good.
Cole Anthony, Tyrese Haliburton and LaMelo Ball are the top 3 PGs
Please . The Post is a rag. Berman has literary pick about six players at this point. That we have interest in. Or we are drafting. Hampton is not ready for prime time. He plays RJs position. His scoring which is suppose to be his strength. Is not consistent. He’s yrs away, maybe. It’s 90% we are picking 6th. Halliburton is the best PG in this draft. He will be there. Only team that could take him. Are the Pistons. He is a 2 way player with size. Who doesn’t make mistakes. Us team first n pass first. And still will get you 16. A high IQ player. God knows we need as many of those as we can get. After Halliburton I have mixed feelings, if he’s gone. But if we luck out with #1 pick. I take Wiseman and trade Mitch. I would then try and trade up for Halliburton. Any way you slice this. This draft is very important for Knicks. Lot of salary is coming off. Rumors are Knicks will try and make trade for a star. Just pray it’s a young one. You have be all in on this rebuild. This next yr us a big step forward. Don’t let Dolan interfere. See this thru. PLEASE
I thought he was already on the team? Ok too 5 knockerbockers of all time:
1. Patrick Ewing
2. Phil Jackson
3. Jon Starks
4. Charles Oakley
5. Allan Houston
Go Knockerbocks!
How old are you? I’m not even that old but Ewing is the only one that belongs on that list. Frazier, Reed, the Pearl, and Melo. Bernard King goes ahead of all those other dudes too.
Not familiar with those guys. I had Melon 6th
Knicks should use their first pick on a top PG, not their second first on a PG as good as their others.
Philly is right. Ewing deserves to be in top 5. The others are good not great. The Knicks need to find there superstar now and build the team around him better than they did Ewing. Knicks need some good fortune in the draft. If Warriors win the lottery it’s rigged.
RJ Barret better suited for the small forward position. They need a lights out shooter like Beal or Klay
He would be a steal at 27 but they better not be looking at him at 5–10 there’s easily 3-5 better PGs
The 2020 draft is shaping up as an evaluator’s draft. That doesn’t bode well for the Knicks, relative to their choices of a CEO type TP (in Rose) and leaving Perry in place as the lead talent evaluator. You’d have to go back to the last draft that included HS players to find a situation where almost all the top talents (in terms of measurables) have no post-HS resume that can be measured against a common baseline. Hopefully Rose will be flexible. Discretion may be the better part of valor. There may be a better risk reward by trading down or out. Not what many Knick fans want to hear. But taking more young players without a good sense across the organization of where they are relative to the team’s timeline just sets up a further bloating of the group of young directionless players on the roster.
