Tyrese Haliburton, who is expected to be a top-10 pick in this year’s draft, claims he won’t be fazed by the pressure of playing in New York if the Knicks end up selecting him.
“Being in New York, they always talk about the pressure of being a Knick,’’ Haliburton said Tuesday on ESPN’s The Jump (h/t Marc Berman of the New York Post). “I feel like no matter where I go, the pressure I put on myself is more than I’ll get from anywhere. No matter where I’m at, that pressure is prominent and it will be more from me. I’m ready to play anywhere.’’
The Knicks have the sixth-worst record in the league, as our reverse standings show. “I think the Knicks are on the right track if they take (Haliburton) at six,’’ one NBA executive told Berman.
Here’s more from New York:
- Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic details what Walt Perrin brings to the Knicks. New York is finalizing a deal to hire Perrin – whose decision it was for the Jazz to draft Donovan Mitchell back in 2017 – as an assistant GM.
- Several scouts throughout the league believe the Knicks are in good hands with Perrin and Frank Zanin, who will also join the team an assistant GM, Ian Begley of SNY.tv writes. Zanin spent the past four seasons with the Thunder, helping them retool post-Kevin Durant and later, setting the franchise up for a rebuild down the line with the Paul George trade.
- It’s been over a year since the Knicks traded away Kristaps Porzingis and Mark Cuban is still stunned that Dallas was able to make that deal. “It’s like the James Harden trade,” Cuban explained on WFAN’s Moose and Maggie radio show. “Harden gets traded from OKC to the Rockets and I’m like, damn, why didn’t we even get that offered to us? We weren’t in the mix. Nobody was. It was one phone call and the Rockets said yes. (The Porzingis trade) was our one phone call.”
As usual Cuban is right & insightful.
Porzingis deal was a great move, managed to get a star which a unique skill set plus Tim Hardaway JR who isn’t anything special but is a solid shooter. They gave up DSJ who they knew was a potential bust, DeAndre Jordan on an expiring deal and 2 future first.
What they got in KP and Hardaway is what you hope two first round picks can eventually turn into, so 100% they won. Doncic and KP is a new dynasty and all they needed was 1 draft and 1 trade
Porting is is soft has same body as Bradley. Never plays inside. He is a gd shooter. But you take that away. He’s just a big guy. Dynasty?? You even know what that means. Luka is for real. Dallas got a gd deal. Considering he wasn’t going to sign. I’m fine bye.
Halliburton is the one we need. Pistons may be only ones who might take him. Although Hayes is probably a better pick. Since they are in full rebuild and can wait on him.
Porzingis is living off Doncic. Luka is unreal, and makes Kristaps better. I don’t miss the “Big Soft” here in NY either. He didn’t want to be in NY. Didn’t belong here.. Het out. I wanted them to trade him earlier. Would have gotten more. And not a Halliburton guy. Do NOT take a PG with the 1st rounder. His shot doesn’t play. Ney for shooting unless Wiseman still there.
You’d be right…. IF…. Porzingis & Doncic’s mknjtes weren’t massively staggered. Porzingis has shown (along with numbers) that he does his best work with Doncic off the court. Which is another issue the Mavs will have to solve.
@donkeygym
Dude everyone wants out of NYK, even the rats!
You talk as if it was a bad thing, it shows the character of the man & it deserves respect, as for anyone wanting out of the big apple, shame is for anyone wanting in!
Speculating that the Knicks would be fine taking Halliburton at six is fine. Problem is there is still a lottery where the Knicks could move up or down.
No difference makers in this draft. Not one player that makes an nba team significantly better. Or better, period.
Pozingas way too injury prone. I wish him well but if Mavs fans think he’s the second coming of Dirk think again. Luca was a steal and the Hawks were crazy to make that deal. I know Trae Young is good but Luca has a chance to become the greatest European player ever. I’m not getting my hopes up for Halliburton. I’m done getting burned by hopes and wishes. Last year Knicks should of gotten Zion or Ja. Barrett is good but not sure he’ll be great. I say trade multiple picks and players and try and trade for Beal, Booker or Lillard. That’s the only way I think the Knicks should picks for now. If not you have to think eventually your bad luck will change and they can get a difference maker in the draft or free agency.
Even if Porzingis never improves, his value far exceeds anything the Knicks got in return. Already been shown they made a quick move to get two max slots, along with ancillary assets and it didn’t pay off. It was just an awful trade for the Knicks. I feel for Knicks fans, but the blame towards Porzingis is short-sighted. Definitely some stockholm syndrome there, but that front office has done Knicks fans dirty for years.
Like you said, the best bet is to salvage the past mistakes by maybe making a Hail Mary package for a Beal etc.
Could have been a Sixer, if he didn’t want to be in NYC so bad, and then he wanted out of NYC just as bad.
He’s kind of like the LBJ version of Kevin Love, in that his game is elevated bc of Luka as others have said. On his own, he’s not as good as Kevin Love as in his Minnesota days. So Dallas made a good move b/c they paired him with the right player. It wasn’t a good pairing with Melo.
As for the Knicks, the ping pong balls will dictate who they take at PG. If you hate Dolan, you hope they take Ball and it implodes. If you just want the Knicks to be good, Haliburton, Hayes, or Anthony would fit the bill.
Interested in seeing what they do with their other 1st though, packaging it with their expiring contracts to get a name brand player.
CP3, Blake Griffin, Kevin Love, LMA, DeRozan, Myles Turner – that’s kind of the list of guys I could see them theoretically getting or pursuing.
Unless the Rockets blow it up and trade Westbrook or the Wizards trade Beal – but NYK would have to include better assets.
Love Luka. KP needs about 25 LBs of muscle. Kareem was 7’ 2” and 265 LBs. He played long and inside. Cause he was athletic and smart KP is 7’ 3 “ and 240 LBs. Not as athletic as Kareem. Does not play inside cause he’s afraid of getting hurt. You get low on him. He don’t want no part of you. Just like Bradley. He’s special cause of his shot. But he can’t get it off like Dirk. Right system he’s a solid player. I’m good with Real bigs. Wish him best.
You’ll need to check out Halliburton. He’s high IQ. Needs some weight. But he’s grown in last 4 yrs. body will even out. Late bloomer. A 2way player. Who sets up teammates first. Is highest efficiency PG in college. Doesn’t make mistakes. Is a good shooter even though they say he holds it too low. It goes in lol. He can always adjust that, competition. He will make RJ, Mitch better. And you can’t leave him alone. Like all our PGs now. Best players in NBA are 2way players. He can help right away. Doesn’t have to start but eventually will. Frank will make gd backup. We need all the smart players we can get. He’s best PG in this draft to me. He’s long, smart, plays both ways. Is a TEAM player. He’s a good mix with RJ in backcourt. I like him a lot for us.
I like Halliburton too but I think RJ should move to small forward. Then somehow pry Beal/Booker away. Halliburton, Beal/Booker, RJ,Randle and Robinson. That starting 5 should be a good start to getting the Knicks back to winning games hopefully.
I like Beal too. But I think Wash gives Wall before Beal. It seems like Knicks might move Randle. All I read is how much he doesn’t fit. Shame no organization has ever worked with him. Not too many 20 n 10 guys in NBA. Rumor I get from all this. Is they will move him. Only signed for one more yr. I can’t wait for draft. Gotta feeling there’s gonna be a few trades.
I’ll take Wall and hope they draft Anthony Edward’s. They desperately need some lights out shooters like Allan Houston.
I think Edwards and Wiseman are going to be very good players. Nobody has SEEN Wiseman play, really. Because of the lack of impact players in the draft, I’d roll the dice on Wiseman. If Robinson is developing his outside shot, he could play power forward. Wiseman, Robinson, and RJ are a good young tandem, and the Knicks have assets to trade for another mid 1st round pick if a shooter is there. Watch highlights of Halliburton. His shot does not play in the NBA. Not a fan at all. Tre Jones 2nd Round.
What is it. with these short sentences. from New York?
It is Doncic’s team in Dallas and Zinger was left with improving his numbers on defense and rebounding, and the important thing, on/off. He would have been The Man in NY but I did not think he was stable in such a tense sort of place. with terse. sentences.
