There is growing support from NBA team owners to delay the start of the 2020/2021 season until December, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver and the league’s Board of Governors continued discussions on Friday about pushing back next season from its usual October launch date.
By pushing the start of the season to December, the NBA could increase its chances of having fans in the arenas for as many games as possible. These discussions are independent of whether this season is ultimately resumed or canceled, Wojnarowski adds.
Talks have centered on starting the season prior to Christmas and completing it in late July or early August. The NBA draft and free agency would be pushed back until after the season.
Earlier in the day, the Board voted to postpone the draft lottery and the draft combine. It hasn’t voted on delaying the June 25 draft but that seems like a formality at this point.
That would not be the worst but idk
It’s all ridiculous how long can we do have to wait. Just because the government says it’s ok all the virus crap just magically disappears they know all lmao bull. No so just get on with life too many sheep making up stuff.
Hey guys, sportfan says it’s cool to get back to normal life. He seems like a medical expert, so let’s just get on with it already.
How long? Probably until people can’t unknowingly carry a potentially asymptomatic disease that can kill other people. Since that’s not a good enough timeline and you seem like you can’t just sit at home, enjoy some downtime, shut up and just chill, I guess we will have to do it earlier for you.
@SheltonMatthews If you are happy to just sit at home means you are getting the handouts, so just don’t be preaching about it, most people like myself are loosing all we have because we are not as “lucky” as you are & we ain’t getting any handouts, but still need to pay the bills. So don’t ever say just sit at home, it is very insulting dude!
Lmao, some people just don’t understand what effects this dumb virus is doing to us adults.
No we do and not sheep. So government says it’s ok is the only way you get your butt going again that is very bad. Learn the facts yourself not what they want they want you to hear. I have family in medical fields and media. Big difference in truth And stats. Either way we all here miss sports and want it back soon I know the warriors can pull it out lmao … well maybe 3 more wins this season.
Guys, I fully understand what it’s doing. With that said, you have to stay home, because if we all go back out now, the virus could easily circle back and we will have to stay in LONGER then the original timeframe. I know some people are having struggles, I know money is tight, but the only way to actually fight it off is to let it die out. That can’t happen if we are out spreading it. That’s what I meant by stay home and chill. No I’m not getting handouts El Don. I’m sorry if you’re struggling. I get it. It’s not easy for anyone. But if you don’t stay home and stop the spread, you will only be forced to stay home longer, thus causing MORE HARM than the original timeframe. That’s not a government conspiracy, that’s reality if you just think about it. It sucks, but we all have to do it so that it goes away. Otherwise we will still be dealing with this in December because people wanted to take back the beach. It’s moronic.
Not that much difference, the season usually starts around October 30.
How would a pushed back season start affect draft withdrawal and NCAA roster/scholarship allowances?
T hough the Knicks are ranked 10th in attendance at an average 18,811, that is a little deceiving. Six clubs with a lower per game average have sold out all their games, including the Milwaukee Bucks. Of the Knicks’ 33 Garden games, just nine have been sell-outs. It will only get Worse
Hey @sportfan @sheltonmatthews since you are so aching to get out of the house why not volunteer to help handle incoming at your local hospital instead of deny what is happening? Yes, the economic effect of this is terrible, especially with no safety net of “handouts”. Maybe you should call your reps and demand a better safety net instead of asking for the NBA and others to endanger more people and extend the crisis and the resulting economic hardship.
This is bad for everyone, but worse for those losing loved ones. Try to feel grateful that you are not one of them.
The NBA is a very wealthy league of wealthy owners and players. It will survive. If you are facing financial hardship, realize that we almost all are in that boat, and if this gets worse, it will get even worse for us much more than it will for the rich. We all need to pull together and see this through even though it is difficult.
Loved ones dying from a car crash is not the virus but they are telling you that in the stats. Not worth getting into it do your research it’s all there not the news telling you what to do. And yes I have family working at a few hospitals and it’s not even close to what news is telling us. Sheep sheep. Pretty scary they say one thing and everyone did it. Just makes it easier in the future to control you
Things should pick up in hospitals when they stop telling people to stay away!
True so many have issues to take care of that are non emergency but very important still
So much bad information here. No hospital needs volunteers for anything, as no hospital is overrun. In fact, some hospitals are furloughing staff because they aren’t even close to normal capacity. The numbers of deaths are inflated and the number of positive tests are deflated. It’s pretty obvious by now that the reported coronovirus deaths are mostly people who died from other causes, but happened to have the coronovirus. The number of deaths attributes to things like heart attacks, cancer, organ failure have dropped almost the same as the number of coronovirus deaths. The virus has been here since at least December, and has been transmitting between people for months before shutdowns happened. Don’t let power hungry individuals with an agenda control you.
If they opened the stadiums tomorrow, I would be at the game.
