The Knicks have received permission to interview Spurs assistant Will Hardy for their head coaching position, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN (Twitter link).
Hardy, who has been with the Spurs since 2010, was initially hired as a basketball operations intern before becoming a video coordinator for the team. He was named an assistant coach in 2016 and was promoted to the front of the bench a year ago, following the departures of Ettore Messina and Ime Udoka. The 32-year-old Hardy is “well-regarded” within the Spurs’ organization, per Wojnarowski.
With Hardy joining the Knicks’ list of potential coaching candidates, we’re now up to at least eight who are expected to interview. Tom Thibodeau, Kenny Atkinson, and interim coach Mike Miller have long been considered candidates, with Mike Woodson joining the mix a couple weeks ago. On Wednesday, reports indicated that Udoka, Pat Delany, and Chris Fleming are also expected to interview for the job.
Although Ian Begley of SNY.tv has said that the Knicks will likely speak to eight-to-10 candidates during their head coaching search, he doesn’t rule out the possibility that the list of interviewees will continue to grow. Jason Kidd and Mark Jackson have fans within the organization, according to Begley, who says there’s also some interest in meeting with former Cavs and Lakers coach Mike Brown. Spurs assistant Becky Hammon has been identified as a name to keep an eye on as well, as Begley confirms.
Thibodeau has been viewed as the frontrunner for the job for several weeks, and Atkinson also has legitimate support within the organization. However, it’s possible one of the assistants the Knicks are interviewing will make a lasting impression on the club during the interview process.
New York is expected to conclude its search sometime before the season resumes in Orlando at the end of July, says Begley.
Why is it so hard to trade Frank N,Knox and Smith Jr?
Totals of three players = 17 million is a lot of money
Also
Harrell + Lou Williams + Shamet = 17 million
That’s why they’re hard to trade Silivan. Look at the three players for the Clips you identified, all are quality contributors on a serious contender. The three Knicks players can’t carve out minutes on a squad who’s focus should be youth development.
All three are tradable, it’s just that the Knicks are not going to like the packages they get offered for them.
Fix the problems first so that you can hire top tier head coach
Knicks taking there sweet time hiring someone.
well why rush, since everything push back. there no need to hire a coach right now. draft and free agent isnt till oct. so they got all the time in the world to hire a coach.
since the owner isnt a bright one and he might just hire some coach that hasnt work else where. if i was him ill take a risk on one of the up and coming coaches, like hardy, becky or udoka
Pres. of Basketball Ops hired the last three coaches. Fisher, Hornacek, Fizdale/Phil, Phil, Mills. (not counting interims after firings.)
We would have Isaiah Thomas back by now if Dolan was doing the coach hiring.
Also, folks don’t realize that the company that owns the Knicks (Madison Square Garden Company) is publicly traded on the stockmarket…meaning there are shareholders. Making those folks “happy” and keeping stock prices up is essentially the default “boss/owner” of the team.
Check MSG on the NYSE (google it) and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
Maybe Hoops Rumors could do a study on the behavior characteristics of a team that’s privately owned vs a team that’s publicly owned. But an owner with a pet project & a passion (Jerry Jones) is very diff from someone who is in charge of a company that is publicly traded, so every decision is to see revenues high & shareholders happy (Tim Cook, Bezos, etc)
Doesn’t mean the team can’t win, but if there’s not patience because — tHe StOcK pRiCeS!!!! Then you’ll have to get either really really lucky in consecutive drafts; or buy a winner in FA; or endlessly struggle. Unless patience is demanded from up top, and figure out a way to sell the full-on rebuild —
and that part is 100% on Dolan. He sets the overall vision (or has the power to do so). Homie is an idiot tho. So..
Who do you like the best?
VanVleet
Gallo
Morris
Wood
Harrell
All of them are free agents
Please pick 3
You are talking about stock price
Those stocks would turn out to be laughingstock
Isn’t Will’s wife……
Named…..
Laurel N Hardy ???
Who is Will Hardy ?? Who cares . Just sign Thibs already. This job right now. Is not for everyone. Unknown rookies are all Fizdale. Just another wasted yr. Mark who I like. Has issues with religious beliefs. I doubt NY for him. Atkinson who I like. Will not bring in FA to NYK. The more I think about it. It will Tom Thibodeau. I’m good with it. He ain’t no dummy. He knows we are rebuilding here. Remember a trade at deadline or next yr. Sign a FA or two. This team could still be young. But could change drastically. For instance we all know Randle will not last. So what will we get. And is Wood the answer. I would like to have new coach (keep Miller on bench). Before the draft. Cause it will tell a lot about our direction. We might even make a trade during draft .
