Clippers power forward/center Montrezl Harrell has departed the NBA’s Orlando campus due to a family emergency, according to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN. Harrell intends to return to the Disney World campus this season.
Harrell, a leading candidate for the 2019/20 Sixth Man of the Year Award, has been enjoying the best season of his five-year NBA career with Los Angeles. In just 27.6 MPG across 63 games, he boasts a slash line of 18.6 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 1.7 APG and 1.1 BPG. The 44-20 Clippers are the No. 2 seed in the West.
The 25-year-old Harrell, undersized at 6’7″, will be an unrestricted free agent in a shallow class this offseason. He is coming off a sweetheart two-year, $12MM contract extension he signed with the Clippers in 2018, and looks ready to command a major raise after this season.
Should Harrell miss any games in the season restart, Clippers head coach Doc Rivers could look to spell some of his minutes with backup big men JaMychal Green and Patrick Patterson — plus maybe even new addition Joakim Noah. Rivers claimed to not know the status of starting center Ivica Zubac in the Orlando campus. “As far as guys that have showed up and not showed up, we don’t talk about that,” Rivers said. “So we’re going to continue to not talk about it.”
The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor detailed the league protocols for players departing and returning to campus when addressing yesterday’s departure of Zion Williamson. Any player who departs the Orlando campus must test negative for COVID-19 for seven consecutive days ahead of his return (or test negative every day, if he’s away for fewer than seven days). After that player returns, he must undergo a four-day quarantine. If the player does not adhere to those testing rules, he will have to isolate himself in a 10-day quarantine after touching back down in Orlando.
Harrell Knicks off season priority number one.
Cool. Maybe they can get him and 3 additional power forwards to go with him just like last year.

Just another sign of the Lakers starting to be favourites.
For some reason people believe this breaks doesn’t help the Lakers. I think totally the opposite. We all know that LeBron can go GOAT mode and just absolutely carry a team.
In 2014-15 he put up 30-11-8.5
In 2016-17 he put up 33-9-8
In 2017-18 he put up 34-9-9
He reaches another level and can completely dominate his opponent.
I think he will ease himself into shape and get that consistency in the first 8 games then once it hits playoff mode he will play at that elite level. It’s going to help having Anthony Davis who is one of the leagues best defenders there also, who puts up 25+ points, 10+ rebounds and some blocks and assists. He has Danny Green who we all know isn’t elite but come playoffs he hits the shots that count and those threes hurt. Dwight Howard will be playing with a chip on his shoulder as he is starting to make a return as a good big. McGee always comes up with big plays on defence.
Yes losing Rondo and Bradley isn’t great but compared to other teams it’s pretty good. The Pelicans at this stage don’t have Zion Williamson making them not a threat.
The Clippers at this stage don’t have Montrez Harrell making their bigs look like child’s toys for Anthony Davis.
You have the Jazz with Boban which makes them easier. You have the Roclets without Russ and Harden right now plus no bigs that’s a cake walk.
The Spurs without Aldridge again is a cake walk.
So far the only teams that look unaffected are the Mavs, Nuggets and Blazer who actually got better. Mavs are lead by two young players which Bron and AD can easily handle. Nuggets are again a young team which dont match up well for the Lakers. Who takes LeBron??
I think the West is looking the best all season for the Lakers and LeBron. The only huge threat I’d be worried about who’s coming over from the East. Bucks look strong with Giannis, Celtics look fresh and ready with a great coach, Raptors won’t be easy beats with loads of experience a good coach and being the reigning champs.
To add Bledsloe just tested positive
Everyone seems tob think Knicks want VanVleet. I hoping that’s not the case. Draft a PG. Besides why would VanVleet leave he’s the starter sooner rather than later with Lowry aging
I don’t think he leaves either but I think Ibaka and Gasol both might leave
