4:24pm: The signing is official, the team announced on Twitter.
3:42pm: Justin Anderson will sign with the Nets later today, tweets Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Rumors of the 27-year-old swingman joining the team began in late June and continued last week when he discussed the possibility on a radio show (YouTube link). However, Brooklyn opted for Lance Thomas instead, making the deal official earlier this week.
Another spot opened up when veteran forward Michael Beasley tested positive for COVID-19 when he arrived in Orlando and failed to clear quarantine. It’s possible the Nets already knew they’d be replacing Beasley when they signed Thomas instead of Anderson last week.
Anderson signed a 10-day contract with the Nets in January and averaged 1.0 PPG in three games before being released by the organization. He also spent part of the season with Brooklyn’s G League affiliate in Long Island. A first-round pick by the Mavericks in 2015, Anderson had brief stops with the Sixers and Hawks as well.
Finally. I don’t know what they were waiting for.
They were probably waiting until they really needed him, now he’s the substitute for a substitute. I wonder if they will resemble the Washington Generals once play resumes with LeVert, Harris, Allen, Temple, Kurucs, Crawford, Thomas, Chiozza, Tyler Johnson, and Danta Hall leading the way with TLC, Musa, and Anderson in reserve.
Hopefully, they’ll get results like the Harlem Globetrotters did against the Washington Generals. All the other analysts on TNT were picking on Shaq for saying he can see them making the second round. He said they’ll be on a neutral court and will playing with a lot of energy. He expects top seeds to take them for granted. It’s not likely, but after seeing the #22 seed in TBT, sIdeline CANcer, come within a few points of winning the whole thing, it’s not impossible. Yes, that’s a lower level of competition, but anything can happen in a series.
Oh yeah, there’s one more – Jeremiah Martin. It’s possible he could be inactive in the playoffs because I think you’re limited to 13 active players for any given game once the playoffs start.
Thought it said Kenny Anderson or a second lol
LOL, I was worried yesterday when I saw an alert that Justin Anderson was going to have Tommy John Surgery until I realized it was from baseball rumors. That would’ve been so Nets if they needed to find a substitute for the substitute to their substitute. Actually, it would’ve been more Nets if they officially signed him and couldn’t replace him because he was injured instead of infected.
