Clippers head coach Doc Rivers has confirmed that starting point guard Patrick Beverley will remain unavailable for tonight’s third game in L.A.’s playoff quarterfinals series against the Mavericks, according to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN (Twitter link).
Beverley’s calf injury has now restricted him from playing in seven of the team’s last eight games. He appeared for just 20 minutes in the Clippers’ playoff opener, a 118-110 win over Dallas. Though Reggie Jackson started in Beverley’s stead for the team’s 127-114 game two loss to the Mavericks, Landry Shamet will replace Jackson as the team’s starting point guard, per Jovan Buha of The Athletic (Twitter link).
Here are more news items and notes for California’s NBA teams:
- Warriors president of basketball operations Bob Myers has yet to tip his hand as to whether or not the team will draft a new young player with the No. 2 pick in the 2020 draft or package it in the trade for a skilled veteran, Nick Friedell of ESPN tweets. “I don’t think I’ll know that anytime soon,” Myers said. Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area posits that the Warriors, just one year removed from five consecutive NBA Finals runs, should move the pick for instant help, due to both the age of core Warriors Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, and the lack of a clear future superstar in this year’s draft.
- The Kings should prioritize talent over need with the No. 12 pick in this year’s NBA draft, writes Jason Jones of The Athletic. Jones examines five prospects who could help Sacramento, including Villanova forward Saddiq Bey, Florida State guard Devin Vassell, and Vassell’s teammate, forward Patrick Williams.
- Lakers point guard Rajon Rondo, still recovering from a July 16 thumb surgery, has been listed as merely “questionable” for the third game in the team’s playoff series against the Trail Blazers on Saturday, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN (Twitter link). With starting guard Avery Bradley opting out of the NBA’s Orlando restart and Rondo injured, the Lakers have been fairly short-handed at the point.
#2 pick is on auction
More likely you must give GSW something that will blow them away. They can’t trade it for a high cost player because next year they will be way over the cap after the $17 million is gone. So most likely keep the #2 pick take Wiseman since Wolves will take Anthony.
Myers doesn’t know yet because Milwaukee hasn’t lost and been bumped out of the playoffs yet. He’ll know more in a week or so.
I predicted Vassell to GSW a long time ago though it was never a rational pick, given the likely slotting. Wiseman is the most logical given that GSW lacks many players proven in the playoffs; they could use the rim protection. Kerr’s system would provide space for Lamelo to operate, if they go that way. MIN should take Edwards. Myers acts like he pretty much knows already but needed to know the order and the rise of Vassell… pointing to a trade-down. Espn has brought Vassell back down to #16, good f or Myers.
Predict Atlanta gets the GSW #2— they traded up last year— for their #6 & Dwayne Dedmon, who seemed to shut it down last year but hit 3s well and blocked shots last year.
Predict GSW gets Vassell at #6 and Kevin Huerter for the #2, and DJ Augustin as a UFA. Dedmon would technically be a separate deal for the TPE. Atlanta gets probably Wiseman. This would be relatively costly for GSW, using $13.3mil of the TPE’s $17mil.
So did Dedmon have an off year, or is he going downhill? I think he was disenchanted by being acquired for value when the franchise favored their new kids & Capella. I suspect GSW fans wanted more than these three, but they’re keeping Wiggins, unlike with the trade getting Gordon & Fournier from Orlando.
2 unguaranteed contracts would have to go, maybe for Huerter, maybe Bowman. Augustin to back up Curry.
GSW could get John Collins from Atlanta instead of Dedmon by including the #51 & next years first and even save money for 20/21 but IDK how they would afford Collins after that. Just let him go? Dedmon would likely still be available with his $13mil per year salary.
Trade Wiggins and picks for Snell
Had to be quick
It would be too late if November
Why would you do that? GSW like Wiggins and the Bucks would love to be rid of Snell. GSW would be taking 3 steps back in that trade.
Arc, I agree, but imo gsw publically says they like Wiggins because not saying so would hurt trade possibilities.
I just don’t think they’re so high on him that they wouldn’t trade him. Remember his salary
Wiggins failure in Minnesota was because he couldn’t be the man. Even with Towns on the team they expected Wiggins to carry the offense. In GSW he will be the third best scorer and the guy with open shots. Wiseman would be a cheap cost for a few years which makes him even more valuable. Wiseman only needs to concentrate on defense for a year. Wiggins fits the warriors much better than Russel.
Of course on everything you say. I believe he would be good for gsw BUT I truly believe that gsw gives that spiel, which mirrors your comments, to add trade value. Again, his salary, I believe, is a huge issue.
Again, I agree, Minnesota did have him in the wrong role. And absolutely he’s better than Russell—it’s not even close. You’re dead on. But, with a killer offer I think gsw pulls the trigger.
Boy you are chatty today, Cathy.
In regard to Wiggins trade
Wolves proposed this years pick to Warriors
Warriors want the pick 2021 or 2022
It’s Myers, not Meyers, Alex. You’d think with a name like Kirschchenbaum that you’d prioritize spelling.
The Knicks haven’t lost their favorite prospect yet – Draft Dream – Hollywood Ball
Because they knew Warriors would help them.
Why didn’t Knicks offer a package for #1 Zion and #2 Morant last year?
History says no one put the No. 2 pick on auction.
Your first post is #2 pick on auction ……
Rajon Rondo the ironman! Many said he wouldn’t be back until well into the R2WC… & he might be back today!
Can’t help but feel like drafting Wiseman gives the warriors a solid starting 5…
They already have a solid starting 5, it’s just that 2 of them were out most of the season.
Bucks Celtics Wizards Hornets Thunder Spurs Pelicans
So who can realistically trade into #2 pick. Wiseman is only player teams will trade up for. And who has the assets to do it. Celtics, Wizards, Hornets, Thunder, Spurs, Pelicans. That’s all I see. Wiseman on these teams. Changes them dramatically. MJ has been blowing the draft for so long. This would be major for them. I see Warriors keeping it, Taking Wiseman. They gave Wiggins and TE to make major move. Wiseman is too good to pass up.
Atlanta, Orlando— If GSW is as short-term as people say or even if not. Their pieces are not fitting, either one. That’s who would be willing to trade with a team most GMs are tired of hearing about. Nobody wants to help GSW get back to the finals except a team that has to change and has the pieces.
Wiseman is far better than Mitch Robinson
Why didn’t Knicks trade for Wiseman?
Then trade away Mitch
I’d rather Wiseman than Mitch. Knicks wouldn’t do it. Mitch n RJ are the lone cornerstones right now. After a yr of Thibs. We’ll see where we stand.
