Mavericks point guard Luka Doncic is expected to undergo an MRI today on his left ankle after he suffered a sprain in Dallas’ 130-122 loss to the Clippers on Friday which put the team in a 2-1 series hole, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon writes.
Doncic suffered the injury late in the third quarter as he rolled his ankle while Kawhi Leonard drove to the basket. The 21-year-old returned in the fourth quarter but managed to play only briefly before leaving for the remainder of the game.
“It’s not that bad,” Doncic said after the game. “Honestly, I had luck it’s my left ankle. It’s not my right. It’s a little sprained. We’ll know more tomorrow.”
Doncic being forced to miss any games for the remainder of the Mavericks’ first-round series against the Clippers would likely derail their postseason. The Slovenian had been dynamic in the series thus far, recording 42 points in a Game 1 loss and managing to total a triple-double (13 points, 10 assists, 10 rebounds) in Game 3. Doncic is the third-youngest player to ever record a triple-double in the postseason, behind Magic Johnson and LeBron James.
Dallas is set for Game 4 against the Clippers Sunday afternoon which gives Doncic less than 48 hours to recover but head coach Rick Carlise was optimistic about his chances.
“The game is early Sunday, which doesn’t help things, but we’ll see,” Carlisle said. “We’ve got every advanced treatment modality that you can have, as every team here does. We’ll see how this responds in the next 36 hours.”
Personally I don’t think any team has a chance against the Clips but I hope he gets better by tomorrow. The Mavs are an interesting team and the basketball is better with him involved.
This comment didn’t age well
Clippers made the right move by benching Jackson for Shamet. The offense seemed to flow much more efficiently last night, with Kawhi going berserk. The only real problem is “Playoff P,” who’s been ice cold since the beginning of the postseason
Can UFA Reggie Jackson play the 2 with a bigger 1? RJ, 30, can hit 3s now, but still plays like a jerk, which sounds like a 2.
Speaking of jerk… Paul George seems influenced, like he’s moving at the speed of Lou Williams or Kawhi getting a shot off before the defense can reshape itself. He’s less cool. Barkely is on him.
Luka is such a monster! I hope he gets back! Right now is the most entertaining player in the league to watch!
Remember when Marcus Morris was mean to him? I bet that made you really sad.
Can’t take chances with Luka. Let him heal. Mavs ain’t going anywhere.
Don’t agree Luka/KP6 are a better pair than Kawhi/PG13, yes the rest of the team let them down, but is possible if Luka keeps playing out of this world they can beat LAC.
KP6 has shown this year he is a real star. Never liked him in NYK, I always thought he was just hyped, but man this year in DAL he has totally showed me how good he is, the guy is a beast.
Can’t believe NYK let him go for a bag of boiled peanuts… actually that is very Knicks give away their best player since Ewing!
He’s soft doesn’t play inside. You can take him out. His shot is key. If he don’t score. He’s not doing much else. We don’t want players who don’t wanna be here. He drank the Melo koolaid. A beast huh. You should watch someone more than 2 times. Keep trying
You see, that is the problem he didn’t wanna be in NYC, you can’t blame a man for that, right? But what I don’t understand is why fans turn on a player who doesn’t wanna stay? To me it is the teams fault if a player wants to go, so I do blame my team & go mad at them! As I always said that is the point of following a team, you blame them & criticize them more than any rival team, because you want them to be better. Just taking the BS they say to look good, blaming players is a sign of despicable people that tries to blame shift.
Y’all see how good KP6 is, already is playing so very much better than he ever did in the big apple, & much more is to come!
But you don’t follow teams… You don’t have a team…you just have favorite players.
