Is a Carmelo Anthony–Knicks reunion at all possible? Don’t count on it, Marc Berman of the New York Post writes. Anthony has revived his career with the Trail Blazers and would prefer to re-sign with Portland. However, Anthony has been on team president Leon Rose’s radar since he took the job in early March, Berman continues, and the Knicks have an opening at small forward.
We have more on the two New York City teams:
- Will the Nets get a third star to join Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving? They may already have something to close to that in Caris LeVert, Brian Lewis of the New York Post opines. LeVert was the team’s best player in Orlando and the alternatives, unless they can pry Bradley Beal from the Wizards, are mostly question marks. Guards such as Jrue Holiday (potential opt-out after next season) and Victor Oladipo (knee issues) may not necessarily be an upgrade over LeVert, Lewis adds.
- Whether to keep LeVert or trade him in a package for another star is also the topic of choice for HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto. A majority of scouts polled by Scotto believe the Nets should hold onto LeVert, though a deal that would net Beal or perhaps Holiday would change the equation.
- In case you missed it, the Nets have formally interviewed coach Jacque Vaughn, who hopes to have the interim tag removed.
Why would the Knicks waste their time bring back Melo?
He’s the best free agent that’s gonna give them the time of day no ! Ad won’t meet with them ditto for van fleet , if Melo comes cheap why not I guess
So what?
He doesn’t move the needle competitively and blocks development of the kids.
It isn’t like he models good effort on the floor.
It would be 100% PR and hurt the team at the same time.
He is in a good place right now only greed will make him leave. He doesn’t have to be the man in Portland just a team player. Whoever signs in NY will be under a microscope and blamed for anytime they lose.
Veteran minimum, even if he re-signs with Portland.
Knicks fall in love with Melo and LaMelo
Melo and LaMelo are for business
Keep levert. He is a stud
I agree. The Nets already got rid of most of the team that was worth rooting for in order to get KD, Kyrie, and Jordan. Trade away Levert and no matter what happens, it won’t be the Nets winning, it’ll be players from other teams wearing Nets uniforms.
It sucks too because I was really looking forward to seeing how good the mostly homegrown team could be with D’lo, Levert, Allen, RHJ, and the rest. They were a team worth rooting for. Now they just another free agent “super team” that I dont care about.
D’Lo was hardly “homegrown” by the nets
Russell was more or less developed by Atkinson in Brooklyn. He enjoyed by far his best season there and was sacrificed by the Lakers in favor of Ball (How’d that work out?)
Got them AD so I think it worked out pretty well
I said MOSTLY homegrown. And he didn’t really become a real NBA player until after he was traded there. It’s kind of like Brandon Ingram in New Orleans. You can’s call him a home grown Lakers, he was just stuck there before he broke out.
Exactly
I wish the 76ers could get LeVert – he’d be such an upgrade over Richardson.
Is that a prediction, or a personal opinion expressed as a valuation? I think he will be offered more. If he plays for a vet min, it will be as a new-hometown discount.
Melo and Hood, Ariza and Hezonja maybe Trent at forwards does Not sound like a title formula. I assume Collins goes to center since Whiteside leaves and they’re at the cap. POR would benefit from another short season. The guards may be old enough to do what they do on the regular but an RS is so long.
Dam that was for HardenWest.
jumpshot LeVert nneds the ball more than JRich but with Simmons a 4, Philly could probably use that.
Gobert for levert & Allen (maybe dinwiddie too)
Nets need elite defensive presence bc Kyrie & KD ain’t playin D. Plus those 2 w Harris, cab looked improved. Plenty of offense there.
I also wonder the fit w levert there. Not great off ball shooter.
Jazz could look to shake things up after 3 early playoff exits as well
Kd is a good defender.lol..
Nets have DeAndre Jordan who plays defence and Jarrett Allen who plays defence. Gobert is an upgrade but not worth giving away the talent
I been saying that we should trade Allen and Dinwiddle maybe more for Gobert and keep Levert at the two while signing Melo at the four and retool the benchwe would have Kyrie Levert KD Melo and Gobert starting five that’s deadly add some vets on the bench with DJ and we solid contenders
Melo is banned from NY. Thibs won’t deal with Melo. This is a rebuild. Not a reclamation project. Knicks all about the draft. Why is it so hard for some you to see that. Thibs after yr will go after a player or two. With 3 picks we’ll be youngest team in NBA.
Nets I wonder what they’ll do. Cause not only are they expected to contend. But they have to please their babies. Nothing is getting without their approval. So it will be interesting. Dinwiddie, KeVert, Allen are all talented players. All three could be gone if right deal comes up.
Odd comment dude! Of course BRK must consult with Kyrie & KD, otherwise what is the point to bring them in? SMH!
Not sure that GM Rose sees that.
In the meantime I like/lol the Knox of Nix, Randle going off the handle, Melo and LaMelo more mellow…
They may not build around the doing for Randle, who did not turn out to be a fit, but he might fit with Lamelo just sayin. Randle could use the pass-ahead, and Lamelo the finish and protection.
Knox hasn’t found his game or maybe I just don’t like it. But if Melo signed, what would that do to Knox’s iso game?
Knicks have a better tougher coach now. I predicted last year they would be brutes, maybe that happens now. If there’s a season.
How to make the Nets the best team in the NBA
1. Trade Spencer Dinwiddie, T. Prince, Jarrett Allen and 2 second round picks for Rudy Gobert
2. Trade Caris LeVert, R. Kurcus and 19th pick in 2020 draft for Victor Oladipo and Tj McConnell
1. Jazz got beat by the Nuggets and with Gobert getting close to 30, it’s time to build around your star in Donovan Mitchell. Dinwiddie gives him a near and star level point, Jarrett Allen replaces Gobert and is a lot younger and Prince plus some picks makes better depth.
2. Pacers got swept and need to make a change. Oladipo is in a contract year and just had a huge injury it would be hard to say no to LeVert and a first round pick in a draft in which they have no picks.
Nets get a starting 5 of
K. Irving, V. Oladipo, K. Durant, ?????, R. Gobert
And a bench of
McConnell, J. Harris, G. Temple, TLC, N. Claxton and DeAndre Jordan
Nets will them need to get a PF in FA for the cheap but they would have good options.
Millsap, Marc Morris, Mark Morris, JaMy Green, Dario Saric, Wilson Chandler, Marv Williams and Jabari Parker. Plus Kennith Faried, Micheal Beasley, Nikola Mirotic and Greg Monroe.
These names may not be amazing but with 4 all stars around them you’d just expecting a role player.
Irving will handle the ball, KD will lead the team, Oladipo would be an amazing third star and great defender on the wing with KD, then you have Gobert, the best defensive centre in the game.
Off the bench you have decent back ups, you have shooters, 3 and D wings and a back up big.
So from your starting PF your probably looking for 20 mins of decent defence and ideally a little spacing.
I’d suggest Paul Millsap, if not JaMychal Green/Marvin Williams/Kennith Faried
Nets then become the best in the League.

Nets have DeAndre Jordan who plays defence and Jarrett Allen who plays defence. Gobert is an upgrade but not worth giving away the talent
I did say that but you proposed trading away LeVert and Allen I believe. Which left you with a hole at SG, 2 centres. It was a sideways move not forwards.
I’m suggesting give away Dinwiddie who either now or very shortly will get tired of doing all the hard work while Irving takes all the credit. Give away Jarrett Allen who will need a contract extension and T Prince and over paid role player for an upgrade.
It’s a deal looking at 1 year ahead. Dinwiddie will want out, Allen will want $$ and Prince will be a regret that’s being shopped around.
Get rid of the three now and get in Gobert who isn’t of the biggest need but would be a very solid piece.
The first deal works in combination with the second trade.
Direct swap at SG plus giving up a first to get the better player and get a bench piece. Oladipo plus Gobert makes the Nets the top dogs
So, the heck with the salary cap? Give away all the depth for 65+mill in salary commitments? Just because you persistently comment on these posts, doesn’t mean you have any idea what you’re talking about. Go home, you just sent a team into the luxury tax; you’re drunk.
To heck with the Cap?
Gobert (24mil) for Dinwiddie (11m) T.Prince (12mil) and Allen (4mil, expiring deal)
This deal actually saves the Nets some salary cap space but not a lot. However Allen needs a new extension and that’ll likely be over 10mil easy so really it’s planning ahead to save money….
The second deal
LeVert (16mil) and Kurucs (2mil) for Oladipo (21mil) and McConnell (3.5mil)
This deal takes on more salary but not much so really the two deals equal each other out and don’t add any more salary cap you idiot.
However Oladipo does need an extension also after the end of next season but if you go deep into the playoff with him KD Irving and Gobert I’m sure he would be willing to sign slightly cheaper to win some rings (25-30mil).
So short term and long term wise with Oladipo and Allen extensions your basically not adding any extra salary to this team. Idiot. Plus you’d getting 4 all stars players together to form a super team
That wouldn’t even be the Nets. That would a barnstorming team wearing Nets jerseys. I understand having some player additions, but without a couple of foundational players, why would you root for them? When the Heat built their super team, they still kept Wade and Haslem. The Celtics did the same with Pierce.
The Nets ruined that for themselves getting rid of DAngelo Russell for KD, Irving and Jordan then sacking the coach.
Just wait and see Dinwiddie will be sick of playing back up to drama queen Irving and Allen will want to play more minutes not be stuck behind DeAndre Jordan.
There is no world in which Dinwiddie wouldn’t be a back up for Kyrie, right? & he should be happy with that. Guy is just average.
I like my starting five better and we can make a decent bench from free agent vets at first I was saying they should trade for Embid but idk Gobert may be a better fit for us
Everyone is assuming Durant will be anything close to what he used to he prior to the Achilles injury. Hardly any player in the past has returned to his past form after that kind of setback.
Durant will still be a top 10 player. Problem is Irving constant injury and attitude. They will be a good team. Just its hard when other teams have more stars.
The Nets would of been better off with DLo Russell instead of Irving
