With the Nuggets and Clippers facing one another in the second round of the postseason, Michael Porter Jr. is getting an opportunity to play against a team he feels played a major role in his slide in the 2018 draft. As Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN details, the Clippers’ team doctor was pessimistic in his assessment of Porter’s back injury and L.A. passed on the forward twice in the lottery before he was selected by Denver at No. 14.
“Their doctor was the one that wrote the report on me,” Porter said of the Clippers. “I think he wrote some stuff like he thought that I would never play basketball again, so I didn’t think they’d pick me.”
While Doc Rivers acknowledged that Porter’s health was a concern for the Clippers, he said that the decision to pass on him with the No. 13 pick after trading up for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at No. 11 was a tough one, according to Youngmisuk. The team opted instead for Boston College guard Jerome Robinson.
“We got the one guy we wanted in (Gilgeous-Alexander),” the Clippers’ head coach said. “And the second pick, when (Porter) was on the board, it was a brutal pass because everyone in the room knew his talent but it was more the injury concern. That was the only other concern.”
Here’s more from around the Pacific:
- Lakers point guard Rajon Rondo is listed as probable for Game 1 of the Lakers’ second-round series vs. Houston on Friday, per the league’s official injury report. Assuming Rondo sees action, it will be the first time he has played since March 10 — a broken thumb and back spasms have sidelined him all summer.
- The Kings recently furloughed some employees in their basketball operations department, as Sam Amick of The Athletic relays (via Twitter). According to Amick, essential personnel in the front office and analytics/scouting departments weren’t affected, but G League employees were. The hope is to bring the staffers back in November, depending on when the 2020/21 season gets underway.
- James Ham of NBC Sports Bay Area makes a case that Villanova forward Saddiq Bey is an ideal fit for the Kings with the No. 12 pick in this year’s draft.
- Count the Warriors among the teams keeping a close eye on the Bucks’ fate in their second-round series against Miami, according to Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area. While the Heat and Raptors may be viewed as the strongest threats to lure Giannis Antetokounmpo out of Milwaukee, Golden State would also make every effort to do so if the opportunity arises.
The Warriors will all be too old for Giannis. If they were the only good option out there maybe it would make sense, but the Heat and the Mavs are both good and young.
Heat have zero future First round pick available for trade
If Bucks take Bam Robinson Herro
Heat have 6 players remaining
Butler 31
Dragic 35
Olynyk 30
Crowder 31
Iguodala 37
Haslem 41
Average 10 years older than Warriors
If Warriors make no trade
Like Davis, Giannis is a great guy
He wants Bucks to trade for valuable assets
By average age Last year Warriors were the 2nd youngest team in the nba
Wolves would ask GSW for Thompson, #2 pick and probably 2 future first round picks. In the end Giannis stays with the Bucks but they go way over the luxury tax line and sign a free agent for big money. There is very few teams have the wiggle room to make a deal for him. Suns is the only team with Booker as the center piece to the Bucks. Why would Giannis want to go to the suns is the question.
The only way the Warriors can get Giannis will be a sign and trade for Klay.
not happening
Klay’s not even open to discussion. The Warriors work with Wiggins because they’re not destroying their team sending back a 25 million dollar salary. Every other team would be sending a main guy part of the whole scheme.
Then they’re not getting Giannis, case closed.
The Wiggins and two first-round picks and two young guys is still the best offer the Bucks will find. They’ll take it.
The best offer for Giannis is the Warriors’ trash? Whatever.
Another thing you’re missing is there’s only one year left on Giannis contract. There will be a hush-hush discussion of, “will you sign an extension with us” and he’s not doing that with New Orleans or any of these other teams people are talking about. With the Warriors he’ll definitely sign an extension or rework a brand new contract or however they do it, one plus one plus one.
Trash…bucks wont trade gianis for wiggin or klay plus picks.its not enough.maybe to nola.gianis for ingram, jrue, hayes, and several picks.bucks starter would be bledsoe, jrue, midleton, ingram, brook. Nola starter would be lonzo, redick, gianis, zion, favors.
What you guys are missing is then if New Orleans or any other team makes a deal like that they have nothing left of a team !! Then they’re the Milwaukee Bucks.. Giannis plus fill-ins. Perhaps one or two other good players.
Porter is 100 percent right. Clippers goofed bad passing on him for Jerome Robinson.
Well yes, that looks bad now… even looked bad at the time…
But a lot of teams also passed on him too.
How can you blame them?
He only played a few minutes of college ball and had a back injury.
Backs are funky. They can return back well or maybe you’ll have problems for a while.
But if a team picked him in the top 10 and he is injured his whole career we would be calling that GM dumb and telling him the history was there and it’s a wasted pick.
If not, they look like geniuses.
I think the nuggets are happy with him and he looks happy too, so no point in talking about what ifs
Doc there were other concerns besides the back. “Only other concern”. Say the other.
Hear and Raptors fans please answer
Assume that Bucks want to trade Giannis this offseason
Warriors offer
Klay
#2 pick
2021 Wolves pick
1 Future First
4 future Seconds
What is your trade proposal to defeat Warriors and still beat the Nets next 3 years ?
warriors won’t offer that. It’s nowhere near realistic
Don’t let these hoopsrumors posters talk you into trading Klay. That’s NOT going to happen any time soon. Here’s the offer to the Bucks take it or leave it.
•Wiggins,
•this year’s #2 pick,
•next year’s wolves pic top 10,
•plus two young guys pick any two.. say Eric paschall and Jordan Poole.
That’s 5 for 1. That offer can’t be beat no way no how. Hands down best offer in the NBA. Any other team destroys their full makeup and you become the Milwaukee Bucks with Giannis and a bunch of fill-ins.
Do the heat or the Sixers or the Raptors want to do that? I don’t think so. They probably have to wait for Giannis free agency in 2 years. Meanwhile the Bucks don’t want him to walk. They go for the Warriors offer. Done.
It’ll be a lot easier to trade Giannis at this point after this washout against the Heat. Fans won’t berate them for treating the MVP.
SGA and Porter Jr at 11 and 12 to the Clippers would’ve been stealing.
I like Porter. And he looks better. But he is stiff at times. He still hasn’t proved anything yet. Play about 8 yrs. We’ll see what you do then. A few gms don’t make a player. It took Alexander awhile to show. And only cause Chris took control. Made him look good. He needs muscle and mins. It looks like his position is SG not PG.
You guys are hilarious playing GM none of you really seem to know what the hell you are talking about none of this in anyway is based in reality Giannas will go where Giannas wants to go that how sports is working these day superstars are demanding trades to certain teams and for whatever reason GMs feel obliged to make that happen so until G says where he wants to play next no one knows s**t!
