Former NBA forward and current Barcelona star Nikola Mirotic announced on Twitter that he has tested positive for COVID-19, as Emiliano Carchia of Sportando relays. Mirotic said he feels fine and is following doctors’ instructions, but he won’t be playing in today’s game against Valencia Basket and his availability for Barcelona’s next several games will be jeopardized as well.
As noted in an ESPN story on Mirotic’s positive test, Barcelona head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius and assistant Darius Maskoliunas both tested positive for the coronavirus earlier in October.
Here are more odds and ends from around the basketball world:
- John Hollinger of The Athletic takes a shot at predicting what the NBA’s offseason calendar might look like, speculating that free agency will begin right near the end of November (after Thanksgiving) and that Martin Luther King Day (January 18) will be the league’s new target date for opening night of the 2020/21 regular season.
- In an interesting piece for The Athletic, a series of beat writers – including Eric Koreen, James Edwards III, and Mike Vorkunov – conducted a mock version of Fred VanVleet‘s free agency negotiations, concluding that the point guard’s floor this offseason is probably a four-year worth at least $80MM. In The Athletic’s exercise, the Raptors beat out the Pistons and Knicks to re-sign VanVleet.
- Life isn’t always glamorous for American-born players who head overseas to continue their careers, according to CJ Moore of The Athletic, who spoke to a number of U.S. players that didn’t have great experiences playing in Europe or Asia.
VanVleet takes Raptors offer if Knicks or Pistons offer 80 million
In order to meet the team minimum salary requirements, Pistons or Knicks offer 120 million contract
It would be huge mistakes for Raptors to overpay VanVleet
Suns want to overpay him too
You said a month ago VanVleet would get .140 million.
You said a few days ago Duncan Robinson would get 100 million.
It’s pretty entertaining stuff.
One Billion Dollars
VanVleet
Real value is 80 million
Current Market value 120 million
Duncan Robinson
Real value 60 million
Market value 100 million
Sillyman has a subscription to WallStreetJournal. That’s how he’s always up on “Market Value”
Is there a way to block Sillivan from my feed?
Lmao that would actually be a really nice feature.
We asked the same thing about Dionis… I think he was eaten by his cats tho. Was a win-win.
Could it be that Sillivan IS Dionis?
I have only been on this forum for about six months, so enlighten me: Who was Dionis and why is he loathed?
The Knicks will sign VanVleet. Masaj bringing back VanVleet does not make Toronto favorites to come out of the East.
He does not fit anywhere except Detroit and New York whom need help at the point guard position.
Chicago also, but they do not have the cap room unless this is done as a sign and trade for Otto Porter Jr.
What does signing FVF to a 4/80 do for the NYK? Nothing. Same as THJ 4/71. If anything they drive the price up, but I think he settles somewhere in the 16-18M range with the Raptors. Hes on the level of Scary Terry or Dennis Schroder. Starting caliber, but not an All-NBA caliber player.
I think you could get similar level of production dealing that late 1st for Jalen Brunson.
Draft cassius winston
Thibs is not signing VanVleet. Got nothing against him. He’s just not a good mix here. We need a heady PG, like a CP3 but 10 yrs younger. Halliburton fits that bill. Last yr they almost made trade Randle for Rozier. Apparently Knicks pulled out. Hornets got a new PG so Rozier should be available. I would much rather Rozier at PG. and moving Randle.
They played them both 34 MPG though… so unless they get a combo guard, they’ll probably keep Rozier. Possibly a dark horse for Buddy Hield. They won’t surrender #3. But if they did dealt Rozier to NYK for Randle, they could do:
Swap #3 for #12
Batum > Kings
Hield + Parker > Hornets
That trade actually makes a TON of sense for the Hornets. Because they could package #12, Zeller (15.4M), and Monk (5.4M) in another deal for a veteran big man (Love, Gobert, Adams, LMA, Vucevic)
NYK could then take Okoro or Toppin without having to stress over a PG. Or take Haliburton and play him next to Rozier. Then they work on dealing the rest of the lineup.
Vanvleet is staying in Toronto. Haters whom can’t get off their mom’s couch will hate though.
VanVleet seems like the kind of guy teams regret overpaying for, like Tobias Harris. How much did that guy get? I can’t remember but it was too much.
Sillivan says his market value was greater than the entire economy of Venezuela.
Lakers must be looking at Fred VanVleet as their 3rd option.
