The Clippers face several intriguing offseason roster-building questions, writes Andrew Greif of the Los Angeles Times. Though the issue of who would become Los Angeles’s next head coach was answered today, the team still has multiple decisions to make in terms of its on-court personnel. Big men Marcus Morris and Montrezl Harrell are unrestricted free agents this season. Greif notes that the team would like to at least bring back Harrell if the price is right.
There’s more out of California:
- Ahead of the 2020 NBA draft, James Ham of NBC Sports Bay Area analyzes seven point guards who might be intriguing fits for the Kings as backups to starting point guard De’Aaron Fox. Sacramento holds the Nos. 12, 35, 43 and 52 picks this season. Players considered include Alabama’s Kira Lewis Jr., North Carolina’s Cole Anthony, and Duke’s Tre Jones.
- Appearing on Bay Area radio station 95.7 The Game, Warriors GM Bob Myers said that All-Star shooting guard Klay Thompson, who missed all of the 2019/20 season due to an ACL tear suffered during the 2019 NBA Finals, has been impressive in team practices, but will need live game play to return to his pre-injury form, per Josh Schrock of NBC Sports Bay Area.
- Danny Leroux of The Athletic unpacks some core offseason priorities for the 2020 NBA champion Lakers, including locking up Anthony Davis to a longer-term contract (he has a player option on the final year of his current deal), re-signing unrestricted free agent starter Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and considering cost-effective free agent ball-handler, wing shooter and center additions.
Speaking of California, what happened to the Dodgers in the 6th inning tonight? Typical post-season Clayton Kershaw. At least LA has the one championship that LeBron got them, but they will have to wait yet another year for the Dodgers to win their first championship since 1988.
The 6th inning has always been Kershaws achilles heal in the postseason, I love it
Imagine having nothing basketball related to talk about that you gotta bash the dodgers lol Houston’s on there way out too.
It’s the off season. Not much going on right now. What else can be said? An article on how LeBron can only win championships when other teams sustain injuries to key players? I mean, we already know that but if you’d like an article detailing such that could be possible.
At least a team like the Astros, down 3-2, has about a 33% chance of coming back to win a series while the Dodgers, down 3-1, have around a 15% chance of getting back to the World Series.
Both are more likely than the Rockets making it to the finals.
The Dodgers and Rockets a LOT in common, mostly because they both have been also-rans for the last 8 seasons despite fronting like they are the best team in the game.
Post Season Kershaw in full swing, pun intended. He’d be so much easier to root against if he were a bad guy, but I have a lot of respect for him for what he does off the field. Genuinely good dude who just can’t get it done when it matters. You love to see it.
Reminds me of James Harden.
We take it your not making an appearance in the 2 Houston threads below, classy.
Glad you could make it into the Socal threads to bash our baseball team on Hoops Rumors today tho
I did make an appearance. And I’m always happy to oblige since everyone else is always bashing my Astros and Rockets at every single opportunity no matter what the circumstances may be.
I have a lot of respect for the Rockets… none at all for the Trashtros.
It’s amazing how people hate the Astros for the trash can thing, but when they spent the first part of this decade not even trying to compete it was no big deal. I find their tanking from 2011-2015 far worse because at least with the trash can they were trying to win.
Can’t trust Houston. Why is the space station even there? Juice
You mean people like Mike Trout, who took issue with the Astros cheating? It was more than just hitting trash cans, by the way. It’s more amazing that people can defend the Astros and still look at themselves in the mirror.
It’s amazing that people like you can take issue with the Astros cheating when everyone on Earth cheats and lies all the time. Cheating on a test, cheating on a spouse, cheating on your taxes, even cheating at solitaire. Everyone has cheated to one extent or another in their lives. And you claim you have never cheated on anything, then you just prove that everyone lies as well.
This wasn’t as big of a deal as everyone thinks. The Astros are just the ones that got caught.
Comparative fallacy run wild here
Not a comparative fallacy. Just pointing out the hypocrisy of treating the Astros like pariahs while cheating occurs on a daily basis all around us.
I think a lot of people, especially those who have grown up with the game, find baseball to be sacred. You might cheat and lie in your own life, but the men on the field between those lines, they follow a code and rules, written and un-written, that you don’t break. To break those codes and rules, is to go against 150 years of history of the game.
Those who find the game sacred know why gambling on the game as a player/coach is about the worse offense that a someone can do, it doesn’t need to be explained or rationalized. You either get why it is so offensive, or you don’t.
This whole trash can fiasco fits into the gambling category. If you don’t understand why it is so offensive to the game, regardless of who else did it or how impactful you think it was or wasn’t, then it’s something that can’t be explained or rationalized to you. You either get it, or you don’t.
But it’s not sacred, it’s a game. People cheat at games. It’s human nature.
Not to you, but there are those who to find it sacred. Like I said, if you don’t find the game sacred, then it can’t be explained or rationalized to you why what the Astros did matters so much.
I love the game and I have my whole life and probably will the rest of my life, but considering it sacred is just silly. It was not created by God. That is the literal definition of sacred. I am not going to be praying at the Altar of Manny Mota or the Temple of Ryne Sandberg anytime soon. Sorry if that offends you, but it is what it is in my eyes.
I’m not offended at all. It’s my own opinion, you have yours, no biggie. Like I said, if you don’t get it, it can’t be explained to you. I’m not going to get into a prolonged argument about something as dumb as the use of the word sacred, but the word sacred is not limited to religion.
I bear you no ill will. I have no problem with disagreeing with people as long as they treat me with respect. I do consider the word sacred as limited to religion. To each their own. Have a nice night.
Briffle2, I love baseball. It’s my favorite sport and has been for many years. I get obsessive over it at times. I’m not a superstitious person, but when it comes to baseball I’m just as superstitious as the players. I wore a hat and my team lost? Not wearing that hat again til they win. It’s probably ridiculous, but I’m all about baseball.
That being said, it is nowhere near “sacred”. I mean, come on. Steroids, sign-stealing, massive egos? The game can be amazing and it’s a joy to watch if you get “it”, but it’s nowhere near sacred. Yes, I am an Astros fan. I hate what they did and it sucks now that as a fan I can never even bring up 2017 without being told it doesn’t count. I realize that, and I get what they did and I’m not in any way excusing them for what they did. They can’t take it back. It sucks. But again, it doesn’t mean the game is anywhere near sacred, nor are any other sports.
Briffle2 so how does it feel to eat crow? Pretty much called it, your only offense was ozuna and freeman and you just choked a 3-1 lead ahahahahahahahaha
Literally what you wrote could be the definition of a comparative fallacy and is complete garbage-
Everyone has cheated at solitaire therefore anything else under the sun is A-Ok ; Got it, makes a ton of sense
Of course what I wrote is complete garbage. These are literally disposable comments on an anonymous message board. Of course that also means that everything you wrote is complete garbage as well. Unless you want to call that a comparative fallacy also.
Either you get it or you don’t.
The problem with the Astros cheating is their 100% arrogance on the issue. They are laughing at MLB for their weak response. They act like they are the victim. They even curse and threaten those who outed their cheating. how could anyone cheer for those type of individuals that lie when caught cheating and playing the victim card. If the Astros came out and said yes we cheated we are ashamed of what we did and will never do it again people would forgive them. Instead its so what we are better than you and no laws apply to us.
The “all teams do it!” is a complete lie too. It was only the Astros, Yankees and Red Sox who were doing the cheating. The other 27 teams should either force them to provide proof, or force everyone to retract that BOGUS statement.
I’ve never seen a pitcher give up a solo homer and next inning give up an infield hit and two doubles. But yeah let’s use the tired narrative
Haha right! Not to mention that was a good pitch to Oz, just an amazing swing/strength to get that ball up and out-
He gets Acuna out on that inf chopper we prolly looking at a completely different inning- But so it goes and the trolls get thier food to chew and spit out for the next 11 months
Sad when you got nothing about Rockets. That you have to bash MLB.
I like the Stros. But I’m here for ball.
Lakers, Clippers, Kong’s all have big decisions to make. Who of their FA will they keep. Will any make a trade. Been talk of PG13 getting moved. Buddy getting moved. California moves could impact balance if NBA lol.
This comment aged poorly.
I wonder what the right price is for Harrell – 4 years, $85 million?
The complete playoffs failure of Raptors and Clippers have impact to VanVleet and Harrell contracts.
If they were in the nba finals,
Vanvleet $140 million
Harrell $130 million
Playoffs failure
Vanvleet $110 million
Harrell $100 million
Oh my god, how will they ever feed their families with those minuscule salaries? Someone set up a Gofundme now.
The raptors didnt completely fail. They exceeded expectations by far.
hahaha.
You said 140 for VanVleet. Now you say 110.
You’re still waaaaay wrong.
The Kings are not stacked enough with talent that they should be considering using their top pick for back up to their best player. Sure getting a back up PG in the 2nd round is clearly a good idea, but using pick #12 on a guy that won’t get serious minutes unless there is an injury to your franchise player is just foolish.
Not to mention they still have Cory Joseph on the roster as back up PG for 3 years. Yes, he could always be traded, but they have him right now. The Kings should use the 12 pick on a wing. Even if they keep Hield, the combo of Hield and Barnes on the wing is in need of young competition for the two veterans to say the least. Isaac Okoro falling to them would be their ideal scenario, but others like Nesmith, Vassell, or Williams would fit too.
Although I think their best move would be a trade with Philly.
Kings get
Tobias Harris
Josh Richardson
Sixers get
Buddy Hield
Harrison Barnes
Picks could be exchanged as well. I know everyone is talking about a Horford for Hield deal, but Sacto has no incentive to do that. Trades have to help both sides in order for them to happen. This trade will get rid of a bigger deal for Philly, but also get rid of a disappointing deal in Barnes for the Kings.
Harris is a favorite of Doc Rivers
I don’t foresee him going anywhere
Doc traded his son!
Also traded Harris.
And traded FOR a guy who… nevermind.
If 76ers fall in love with Hield, Kings should pack with this year’s picks and next year’s pick with Hield ……. and hope can make a good trade with 76ers.
IMO
Kings don’t need 76ers picks.
So you think the Kings should give Hield and their picks this year and next year? Are they getting Simmons or Embiid back? If not, that’s just silly.
Hield has some value so trading picks with him makes no sense. He should be traded for another player that needs a change of scenery too. There is a lot of them in the NBA.
You can trade Giannis and two picks for Embiid and Simmons
Do you know the difference between the words “or” and “and?” Because I used one of them and you used the other as if they were synonyms. They are not synonyms.
And no I wouldn’t accept Embiid AND Simmons for Giannis and two picks. And I definitely wouldn’t accept Embiid OR Simmons for Giannis and two picks.
The most interesting thing to me is
If Howard Rondo Morris all want 5.72 million MLE
Who should Lakers keep?
Lakers can only keep one
It’s all about respect
There is absolutely for Rondo to opt out his next year contract
Unless , there is always unless
He wants 5.72 million MLE
Edit
There is absolutely no need for Rondo to opt out
How many veterans who already got paid are planning to go ring chasing with LeBron next year? I’m thinking Melo will be first in line and possibly CP3 if he’s bought out
If they are ring chasing there is so many other teams besides the Lakers to join. Lakers is no where close to a dynasty. How tough the west will be next year joining the Lakers would not make anyone closer to a championship. There are about 6 to 7 clubs that have enough to battle for the top spot in the west.
Who puts them closer to a ring than the LAL? Please can you enlighten us? For sure not in GSW, right?
Cp3 has a better chance of getting traded to an nfl team then getting bought out
hahaha.
You said 140 for VanVleet. Now you say 110.
You’re still waaaaay wrong.
