It will be a busy weekend for coaching candidate Tyronn Lue, who has three meetings lined up in a three-day span with teams seeking new head coaches. According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports (Twitter link), Lue is scheduled to talk to the Pelicans on Friday, Clippers on Saturday, and Rockets on Sunday.
A report earlier this week from The Philadelphia Inquirer indicated that – after interviewing with the Sixers on Tuesday – Lue was set to talk to New Orleans on Friday and Houston next week. Multiple reports have since confirmed that he’s a prime candidate to be promoted in Los Angeles. However, Haynes’ report is the first time we’ve learned specific dates for Lue’s initial meetings with the Clippers and Rockets.
While this series of interviews is a reminder that Lue is drawing real interest from multiple teams, it remains to be seen whether he’ll be the first choice for one or more of those clubs. And it’s unclear which team would be his first choice if he receives more than one offer.
Having spent the 2019/20 season as an assistant under Doc Rivers, Lue is most familiar with the Clippers and is believed to be an early frontrunner for that position. But he’s certainly not a shoo-in for the job, as L.A. is expected to conduct a full-fledged search.
Lue’s connection with Pelicans executive VP of basketball operations David Griffin – the duo worked together in Cleveland – could help give him a leg up for that job. However, New Orleans is reportedly expected to bring in at least two or three finalists before making a decision.
Why are all these retreads being recycled? Tons of young and talented coaches out there.
Hopefully the Rockets will sign one of these young guys instead of a retread.
The man looks like a magikarp.
haha!!! lmao! You’re so right! This made me chuckle at first then I looked at a picture of Lue and a magic karp and I fell over laughing

They want someone with a name and with success to take them somewhere. I do not know a lot with Lue except was with Cleveland. Would love Cassell to have a shot with Rockets but not ownership and know what Fertitta wants. He would go for JVG but once find coach their is assistants but does the coach get say or is that management. But the rest of teams seem in no big hurry after other teams have got whom they wanted. But Doc Rivers when he became available 76ers pounced.
Lue staying with the Clippers to be Coach. You can book it!!!
Tyronn Lue would make sense to be head coach of the clippers
Lue would be insane to take the job with Houston Trash Midgets, at least if he values a shot at winning a title.
Like his chances of winning a title are better with the Clippers?
5 of the last 6 teams that have eliminated the Rockets from the playoffs all made it to the NBA Finals, so far 3 of them won it all.
I can picture Tyronn Lue being the new coach of the Clippers. If it is not him, none of the other high-profile names being talked about jump out at me. The Lakers got really lucky and ended up with the perfect coach for their team, even if he was not their first choice, even if it was a little unexpected. So my guess, it is either Lue, who is believed to be one of the front runners for the position, or maybe somebody we are not even thinking of.
Lue should get the Clippers or the Pels job. Cassell will get the Clippers job is Lue doesn’t or the Rockets job. I think Dantoni will b unemployed next season.
I’m surprised the Pels haven’t tried to get Lue quicker honestly. With how quick the Bulls and 6ers got who they wanted. What’s taking Griff so long?
Really HC position isn’t a very important one, a good coach won’t make your team worst a bad one will, but in any case no coach will improve your team, players on court they make your team win!
LAL with AD & LBJ would win with any coach, so whoever is the HC is irrelevant, what matters is the talent on court!
I wouldn’t go that far. I’d say that talent is number one and coach is behind that. But good coaching and a good system make a difference. A system has to be in line with the type of talent you have. A good HC can make a team better. But you aren’t going to win a title without a lot of talent there is no doubt
I would think Lue should just step in and coach Clippers. But after blowing a 3-1 lead. You would think they want something different. Clippers offense is what let them down. DAntoni would make sense for that. Frank is head of basketball operations for Clippers. He has a .445% winning as a coach. If you ask me. He should be gone with Rivers. This team should be contending for a title. They should be able to get who they want. Maybe Pops should come here and help take over LA. Clippers blew a big opportunity this yr. They better not regress. A coach does make a difference. Game management alone could be win or lose. A team to contend. Needs all parts to be optimized. From management, to coaching (as in whole staff), to players. Obviously talent and players is huge. To win it all you need all parts. Everything helps it’s a team game. I still can’t believe Doc is with Sixers. Just happened so quick. I really wonder now what Clippers will do with players. Montrezl is going to get signed. But will they trade him. Morris you can’t let walk. He could be a sign and trade. Or they can keep both. All they have is ME to sign player. They could use a real PG or a C. They have more than a few decisions to make. So signing a new coach. I would think is a priority.
