Georgia native Brandon Goodwin would like to remain with the Hawks next season, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic tweets. “There’s no place I’d rather be than home,” Goodwin said. The second-year point guard has a non-guaranteed $1.7MM salary heading into the 2020/21 season. Goodwin, 25, played in 34 games for Atlanta in 2019/20.
There’s more out of the Southeast Division:
- The Hornets concluded their two-week mini-camp team workouts on October 2, Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer tweets. Bonnell wrote in a wrap-up piece that there was much to glean from the mini-camp, including 6’7″ forward P.J. Washington, a 2019/20 All-Rookie Team selection, being used at center.
- Hornets guard Devonte’ Graham has a non-guaranteed $1.66MM contract awaiting him in 2020/21, but Charlotte could also offer the 2018 second-round draft pick a long-term extension to avoid Graham entering restricted free agency in 2021. In a separate Observer article, Bonnell assesses the potential positives and negatives that could stem from extending Graham, who became the team’s leading scorer this past season.
- Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington dives into the possible ripple effects of the Wizards either trading up or down from the ninth pick in this year’s draft.

Now you are answering yourself. Stick to ball dude. That’s why we are here. Graham is reason Hornets May move Rozier. They had talks with Knicks about Randle. Basically same salary. Randle second yr is not guaranteed. I can live with Rozier running point for Knicks. He plays both ways. So that is a Thibs kind of player. Makes it easier to take Okoro. Okoro is a solid 2way player. Only 19 and already NBA size. He would be a wise choice for us.
Gd move by CHA. Use the #3 on Edwards or better, the #31 on Desmond Bane, Isaiah Joe or Skylar Mays. If they can get time at the 5 for PJW, and Miles could learn Randle’s hot-diggity, it could make for a productive year even beyond getting anything with the #3.
NYK gets rid of Randle though I think Peyton could get him useful with a full year. But they want a different direction. Rozier is shooting 41%from 3 as a 2 but that is a small backcourt and team for CHA.
I think the best thing about that Wizards article is the reminder of how much it actually costs to move up in the draft. Everyone is saying that the Knicks can swap from 8 to 2 by just including a little bit. But just last year it cost the Hawks 2 first rounders (8 & 17), a protected future first (which became 2 seconds), a second, and they had to absorb Solomon Hill’s deal to move from 8 to 4. And it’s not like DeAndre Hunter is a guaranteed superstar either. I made the same mistake in devaluing the draft picks when I suggested the Mavs move up to 6, but I was correctly struck down.
If the Wizards are looking to move down, perhaps would be a place to look. A couple of players that Dallas might be interested in would be Haliburton or Hayes and at least one of them would probably be available at 9.
Dallas gets
pick 9 (get Haliburton or Hayes)
Troy Brown Jr.
Washington gets
pick 18 (big man…Vernon Carey?)
pick 31 (guard…Immanuel Quickley?)
Justin Jackson
Willie Cauley-Stein (assuming he opts in)
Thoughts?
And I made the same mistake and forgot to add in the 2 future seconds from Dallas on the Washington side.
As a Brown fan it looks unbalanced. I would like to see him moved though.
The main reason I put Brown on there was as salary balance on Trade Machine. In a real life trade, he would probably not be included. But I also thought he could really break out with the Mavs. So I added him and the 2 future seconds. I think 2 future seconds for Brown is good value, because I don’t think anyone is giving a first for him at this point.
