During Thursday night’s NBPA call to vote on the start of the 2020/21 season, some players discussed the possibility of free agency commencing before the draft, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN tweets. Though Wojnarowski cautions that will not be an option this season due to the compressed timeline to negotiate new free agency dates and deadlines, the league and NBPA may revisit the concept in years to come.
There’s more from around the NBA:
- John Hollinger of The Athletic used his new metric, the BORD$ formula, to evaluate the value of this offseason’s crop of free agent centers. Applying this formula, Blazers backup center Hassan Whiteside and Pistons starting center Christian Wood appear to be the top available big men.
- Though the 2021 free agent class has been much-ballyhooed, especially in comparison to this year’s free agent class, Danny Leroux of The Athletic wonders whether next year’s class is really worth the hype.
- Unlike the 2019/20 season restart on the Disney World campus, the 2020/21 season will not employ a single, contained location to keep its players safe during the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic. Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated explores the risks associated with teams now traveling to all the league’s markets.
I’m willing to bet there will be a lot of 1 yr contracts this offseason because of the uncertainty of a full season and profits to owners so contracts won’t be that high
No need for a new metric to work out that Whiteside is the best center available in the market, I mean… seriously 16PPG, 14RPG & 3BPG are clear enough the guy is an absolute beast! BTW he had a PER of 25!!! as well!
lol let me know when he decides to leave the locker room, and actually put some effort in on the floor…not just 1 or 2 times, but every single night
16/14/3 with a 62% & a 25 PER… Facts are a stubborn thing, unlike fickle likes, right?
Whiteside is one of those players with apparently great stats who won’t help you win anything. I don’t think Portland will make any effort to retain him.
There’s also these things called the eye-test and gut-feel …….. Whiteside doesn’t pass both.
There’s a reason why the BLAZERS still played a one-legged, hobbled Nurkic over Whiteside.
There’s a reason Whiteside is a regular whipping-boy of both Shaq & Barkley.
The only reason he got some meaningful stats this season, it’s his contract year.
Whiteside puts up numbers in his sleep…literally. numbers wont ever be the issue with Whiteside. Its his commitment to winning
“Literally?” “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”
if you’ve seen whiteside play, it is literally
Yikes.
Trying to figure this out. Maybe Whiteside cleans his room by putting things on the upper bunk that were laying around the floor up, like I used to in my bunk bed days. Then he started doing it in his sleep, sloppily including his math homework that was on his desk. Then he would be putting up numbers in his sleep, literally!
I guess sleepwalking manifests itself in various ways. I have to to wonder about an individual who spies on someone doing it, though. Maybe formerlyz knows more than the rest of us about Whiteside’s private life.
someone has a comment and all you can do is criticize how its worded? pathetic. TOP SHOT BLOCKER AND 2ND IN REBOUNDS BEHIND GOBERT..bunch of whiners.
Pelinka hopes TristanT, JavaleM, and DwightH read this so they won’t get made when he shows them his offer. $millions: 5.8, 2.6, 3.2. Howard & Thompson will get offered more and Mcgee less, but LJ made a promise to TT and the other two liked their time with the Lakers.
Predict TT will be moving to LA as a minimum vet and there will be a reality show about him & that fam.
Lol ! At this point its not even about the money for TT, its the fame. He will fit well in LA! And get another multi-year deal in ’21
Howard is a FA and had a good yr. Gasol is also a FA. What we forget about them. Whiteside is a solid rim protector type C. Defense and rebounding. One of best things a center can give you. Defense is half the game. It’s also wise to have a Center who can step out or go small ball. With 12 players on bench. Don’t understand why every team doesn’t have both. Heat need a rim protector. Clippers could use one. Warriors definitely need one. Celtics need one too. Market means they should be able to get more than minimum.
