NOVEMBER 25: The Bucks’ deal with Forbes is now official, according to the NBA’s transactions log. Keith Smith of Yahoo Sports reports (via Twitter) that it’s worth about $4.79MM over two years, having been completed using a portion of Milwaukee’s mid-level exception.
NOVEMBER 22: The Bucks have agreed to sign free agent shooting guard Bryn Forbes to a two-year deal, his agent Mike Lindeman tells ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (Twitter link). Forbes’ contract will feature a second-year player option, Woj adds (via Twitter).
Forbes, 27, has spent the first four years of his NBA career in San Antonio after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2016. Over those four years, he emerged as a reliable rotation player for the Spurs, having started 143 games over the last two seasons.
A career 40.0% three-point shooter, Forbes averaged 11.2 PPG, 2.0 RPG, and 1.7 APG in 25.1 minutes per contest in 2019/20. He’ll help the Bucks space the floor around reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, joining Jrue Holiday and D.J. Augustin among Milwaukee’s new backcourt players.
As for the Spurs, they may be in the market for some outside shooting help after losing Forbes in free agency. The team ranked just 26th in the NBA last season with 10.7 made threes per game — Forbes contributed 2.3 of those.
Can’t believe the SASpurs didn’t resign him …
I believe the Spurs think they can find another guy like this. They have very keen eye on Talent and these undrafted guys turning out to be players. I don’t know how but they get it done. Same with Jonathon Simmons he was huge for them for that half season. They find a way to get these undrafted guys and turn them into players. Hopefully for the bucks that Forbes doesn’t go the way of Jonathan Simmons and lose his game after signing elsewhere.
Like Daulton Hommes. He’s gunna be a solid rotation guy
Nah, Derrick White won the starting job in the bubble. Lonnie Walker likewise is in line for a larger role. They’re rebuilding.
Nice pickup! I originally had Forbes to Bucks yesterday. Really wanted him for the Bulls. I think it’s helps them on the 2nd unit.
Bucks now have a solid 2nd unit
However, their frontcourt consists of Giannis, Lopez and…Portis. That’s enough for first unit. Who plays second unit?
Thanasis and Kostas?
Portis isn’t on the first unit. He’s the primary back up for the 4 and 5 spots.
Forbes will probably start since he’s a better shooter than DiVincenzo. Augustin and Forbes in the same unit is also not ideal.
Quality 8th man
Bucks are quietly looking like the best team in the East
Nice role player. Not bad recovery fir the bucks. Think they need some more forward depth in the bench.
Torrey Craig would look really good right now?
Who starts at the two? DD or Forbes? Love the Forbes and Craig signings. Need one more big guy for minimum – Cauley-Stein it Biyombo?
WCS would be great he can create more spacing with his screens. Biyombo is very stiff and slow.
Very happy for Bryn. Also the right move for Spurs not to reup him. Too many draft investments over last few year made in the backcourt
Addition by subtraction for Spurs. An inconsistent, streak shooter – either 1-7 or 5-7 from 3, and a weak defender. The Spurs saw during the bubble games, without Forbes, that they are better with the other young pieces they have.
tuck & arkscout, telling me why this, why that.
I like getting Augustin, Forbes, Diakite, keeping Conaton, drafting Nwaba-2. Jrue has some work to do. I think they’re near the tax line with a couple minimums.
Love what the Bucks have done since Bogan trade fell through, they are better off with a strong second unit like the one they’ve been able to formulate with the money they saved by not signing Bogan. Though i think these moves make me believe Kyle Korver is leaning toward retirement.
Vegas odd
1 Bucks
2 Nets
5th 76ers
6th Raptors
7th Hawks
8th Pacers
Skipped a few. From USA Today?
A regular season signing. Defense will keep Forbes out of meaningful playoff minutes.
