General manager Elton Brand has signed a multiyear contract extension with the Sixers, tweets Shams Charania of The Athletic. Charania adds that a five-year deal with Daryl Morey has been finalized, and he will be introduced as the team’s new president of basketball operations on Monday at a news conference.
Brand has been with the Sixers’ front office since 2016, becoming a player development consultant after his 16-year playing career ended. He was named general manager of their G League affiliate a year later and was promoted to his current position in 2018.
Brand may have agreed to the extension before news broke that Morey was joining the organization. A source told Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer earlier this week that Brand has three years remaining on his contract, but ESPN’s Brian Windhorst cited that as a new development (hat tip to RealGM).
“There’s a report out of Philly today, from Keith Pompey, that Elton Brand has three years left on his contract,” Windhorst said Wednesday. “Well, a month ago he had one year left on his contract, so I think there was a possibility Elton Brand got a contract extension that they didn’t announce.”
Kicked upstairs?
Elton Brand is stylish, not sure if he really that good at his job, but he is stylish
Knicks fans said Horford contract is 3 years tragedy for them
Horford is one step slow on defense and his shooting will decline next year
I think the most attractive trade proposal would be Simmons and Horford in one package
That would be stylish, but I wonder who is biting
Knicks,Hawks and Pistons would take the trade and help 76ers save tax
It would make more sense to trade them separately. Simmons will be worth way more on his own and be more attractive to other teams. Adding horford limits to teams who can absorb 50 million or so in salary. There is nothing on the knicks/Hawks/pistons that would be worth parting with Simmons. Attaching him to horford for a salary dump is just wasteful. Horford can be dumped with other assets, picks and/or Richardson or another player.
I didn’t think much of his personnel moves, but I’m glad the Sixers took care of him. Agreeing to be sandwiched between the egos of Morey and Rivers warrants compensation at a high level.
Most successful people do have some form or another of an inflated ego.
According to fans
Every GM likes to make trade Elton Brand and few likes Morey
No one wants to make a trade with Morey, just ask the Thunder.
The thunder got the best of that trade
I agree, that is my minor reluctance of the Morey hiring. I think Paul for Westbrook straight up would be a bad trade…then I heard picks were attached and I wondered how many Houston was getting…then wow I found up not only did Houston lose the trade but gave up more picks to make it even worse…I like Morey but think that was horrible, though it sounds like maybe his hand was forced by ownership to make that move? Not sure
That’s really bold with 3 years left
I’m sorry man this just makes it look like we are so absolutely clueless as an organization I mean we basically are beside the socialism done pretty good but just now we’re going to who’s going to be the head honcho is it going to be Maury is it going to be brand what if what if they have disagreements who’s going to have the final say leave it to the sixers to go out and get someone like Maury just still have everything screwed up it seems
You’re on meth, am I right?
A few weeks ago, I read that Elton Brand has “final say”.
Brand wanted to have “final say” before he signed the new GM contract?
Um, where did you read that?
If Brand is POBO then what is Morey? What is higher than the mighty President Of Basketball Operations? The Doge of Brotherly Love– The Czar of Mummers– the Chancellor of the ex-Checkers– The Count of ’83– The Premiere of Promise– The King is Dead Long Live the King…
It states in the first paragraph that Morey is the new POBO.
Huh? The article specifically states that Morey takes over as Prez of BB Ops. He reports to ownership; everyone else reports to him.
