The Knicks have signed rookie guard Immanuel Quickley, according to a team press release.
The former Kentucky guard was taken with the 25th overall pick in the first round. The Thunder had his draft rights and traded them to New York in a three-team deal with Minnesota that was made official on November 20.
Assuming Quickley received the usual 120% above his rookie scale slot, he’ll make $2,105,520 in his first season. If he plays out the next four seasons on his rookie deal, he’ll make $10,803,948.
Quickley was named the 2019-20 SEC Player of the Year after posting averages of 16.1 PPG and 4.2 RPG over 33.0 MPG in 30 games as a sophomore last season.
It was pretty fast, I guess. Seems more like a judgment call to call it Quickley, IMO.
Nentwigs, is that you?
Not sure who that is so gonna go with no. :)
They think they can make him PG. He’s got a handle and can shoot. I would keep him in NBDL for a yr. But there might not be one this yr. He needs to play point every day and grow.
I don’t really see him as a point guard either, and not a big fan of the pick when there were better players available in terms of running an offense. I think he’s got potential as a Lou Williams type scoring combo guard off the bench, but that’s probably his ceiling….a player like that would be useful, but not really what the team needs at the moment. I think the Knicks need to take more home run swings, or push, and keep acquiring more draft assets. Overall I like their direction this off-season, but they’re still a long ways away.
