After holding his first in-person workout ahead of the draft on Wednesday for the Timberwolves, highly-regarded 2020 lottery pick LaMelo Ball followed that up with a second private workout for three other clubs today in Southern California, according to Jonathan Givony of ESPN.
Ball, a native of Chino Hills, CA, went through several individual drills in front of coaches and front office personnel from the Warriors (owners of the No. 2 pick), Hornets (No. 3) and Pistons (No. 7). Givony notes that Ball also interviewed with executives from the Bulls, owners of the No. 4 pick, during the last few weeks.
Ball, a 6’7″ guard with terrific passing acumen who spent last season playing for the Illawarra Hawks of the Australian National Basketball League, could be an intriguing backcourt partner for the Wolves’ D’Angelo Russell.
The Hornets and Pistons could also use a definitive long-term fit at lead guard. Though the Bulls drafted point guard Coby White with the seventh pick in 2019, it remains to be seen whether White can evolve from his current standing as a score-first bench off guard.
BUST ……..
I don’t understand why people cheer for players to fail. Dont you want to watch the best basketball possible?
He’s a bust as a high pick. I don’t want him to fail. I don’t care. I see a one way player. Who is yrs away. At best in 4 yrs he’s a rotation guy. I call it as I see it. No one influences me. I don’t drink hype koolaid. No offense just my opinion.
He can pass!
Well, he’s a point guard – pg’s are supposed to be able to pass.
The old man did a great job of over-hyping him and giving him great exposure the last few years. It’s helped make him a high 1st round pick. Unfortunately, he’s gonna be Shaun Livingston at best – if that. Or Lonzo Ball. He’ll never live up to the hype.
Ehh, there is no reason as to why Ball couldn’t be an effective perimeter defender and an effective PnR defender fighting through or even having the size to occassionally switch..
He is still getting use to his body, he is still extremely young, he has a real passion for the game, he has excellent court vision, he is an excellent passer, and he is a dynamic athlete. He is not Ben Simmons, but has alot of the same strengths as Ben offensively, except he can also shoot from mid range and from distance. He isn’t a consistent shooter from deep yet, but he has shown he has range, and be is a threat to knock down the occasional three.
Ball is the type of talent you definitely take a gamble on, because if he hits, he’s an All-Star. Regardless of whatever you think of his dad, regardless how nauseous he may make you feel, his dad has zero bearing on him reaching his potential and possibly being an All-Star PG for a contender one day..
Unless fans vote him in, I don’t see him being an All-Star or All-NBA, or the starting pg for a top 5 team in the league. I won’t root against him just so I can say, “I told you”, but I just don’t see anything other than that he’s a tall guy with a good feel for the game as a passer.
I’m looking forward to seeing which one ends up being the better pro: him or Lonzo.
Lol no one will argue that, you re a Knicks fan
LaMelo passing is very precise.
Pistons are saying that the asking price is high.
Pistons have nothing to offer, IMO.
Most rebuilding teams don’t have anything to offer.
LaMelo and DLo would make an intriguing backcourt indeed… especially on the defensive end.
Wiseman views situations with the Warriors and Hornets as more favorable to his long-term growth, and he has conducted workouts with only those two organizations.
GS picking Wiseman would be like the Pistons taking Luca Doncic. I think wiseman will be that big of a bust
I think you mean Darko Militic.
Now that’s a time machine I can’t quite wrap my head around.
lel how do you even…idk
Please take him wolves. Ball has talent just needs a few years learning the NBA. I just don’t want to see him in a GSW uniform.
