DECEMBER 1: Burke’s deal is now official, according to an announcement from the Mavs.
NOVEMBER 20: The Mavericks have reached a three-year agreement with guard Trey Burke, Marc Stein of the New York Times tweets. The total amount of the deal is in the $10MM range, Stein adds.
Burke’s agent, Sam Permut of Rock Nation, negotiated a 7.5% trade kicker as part of the contract, ESPN’s Bobby Marks tweets. It also includes a player option in the third year.
Burke was added to Dallas’ roster prior to the restart after Willie Cauley-Stein opted not to play. Despite a bout with COVID-19 and an ankle sprain, Burke delivered some quality minutes for the Mavs.
He averaged 12.0 PPG and 3.8 APG in the final eight regular-season games and 12.0 PPG and 2.3 APG in six playoff games, including three starts. He’s a career 34.5% 3-point shooter but made over 40% of his attempts in both the regular season and playoffs last season.
Burke, 27, has passed through four other organizations. He’ll compete for minutes behind Luka Doncic and could also join the Mavs’ superstar in some two point guard looks.
Replaces Seth Curry, can run offense when doncic goes out. Solid
If Seth is $8M per, then Burke should be $6M per.
Wow this is a great contract for Trey Burke. Good for him. He’s worked hard to get here. I’ve always been down on him and never would consider him an NBA player. He went out and worked hard and proved me wrong. Nice job. Love to see it.
I remember watching that Championship Michigan game when Burke was on fire the first half. He was shooting from waaay outside, all pull up jumpers. But of course I was a pessimist because he was 5-11 and not quick enough to be a 5-11 guard in the league. You’ve got to be a rocket if you’re under 6 foot. Well 7? years later here he is finally with a guarantee in his pocket. Hard work pays off.. and perseverance.
I bet his shooting coach is proud… he should get a signing bonus! ;)
He will help them a lot
Honestly this is good for both. Burke gets the most guaranteed money since being drafted and Mavs get at best a solid backup point guard and at worst a 3 million dollar trade throw in
Great deal for Burke (probably should’ve asked for 2 years so he can’t hit FA again earlier) but Mavs get a great pick up. Burke proved he can space the floor and work with Doncic while providing some playmaking when he’s off the court
Good pick up . He is a solid rotation player. Hard work pays off.
he played really good D in the bubble as well
