The third day of NBA’s 2020 free agency period didn’t feature quite as many fireworks as the first two — outside of the year’s first offer sheet, the most lucrative free agent agreement reached on Sunday was worth just $21MM.

However, a series of trades and a pair of maximum-salary contract extensions helped keep things pretty interesting as the moratorium lifted and free agent deals began being officially finalized.

- Sixers agree to trade Zhaire Smith to Pistons in exchange for Tony Bradley.
- Pistons and Nuggets turn Jerami Grant‘s three-year, $60MM deal with Detroit into a sign-and-trade, generating a trade exception for Denver worth about $9.5MM.
- Kenrich Williams, Josh Gray, and Zylan Cheatham will be signed-and-traded from the Pelicans to the Thunder in the ever-growing Steven Adams/Jrue Holiday trade that also involves the Bucks and Nuggets.
- Previously reported trades involving the Trail Blazers and Rockets, Warriors and Thunder, and Pistons and Jazz were officially completed.
Here are today’s contract extensions:
- Donovan Mitchell, Jazz agree to five-year, maximum-salary extension.
- Jayson Tatum, Celtics agree to five-year, maximum-salary extension.
These deals are essentially identical — they’ll be worth a projected $163MM (25% of the cap), but can be worth up to $195.6MM (30% of the cap) if Mitchell and/or Tatum earn All-NBA honors in 2021. They also each have a fifth-year player option.

Gasol will make a great addition to the Lakers. I wonder if they’ll start Gasol, and utilize him the way they did McGee, play limited minutes to start each half, then bring Harrell off the bench to do get the lion share of the minutes at the 5. Time will tell. Gotta feel like Pelinka has done a hell of a job making the team better this offseason and not being complacent.
Makes sense to start Gasol with AD and bring that spark off the bench by unleashing Schroder & Harrell.
I think Gasol will start, if only because of his stature.
Yes gasol will start 18-22 minutes. Harrell off the bench 20-25 minutes leaving 5-10+min for AD at the 5. The lineup looks great.
HAWKS going all out …….. Bogdan on board gets them a good shot at that last playoff spot.
This looks to be the most exciting HAWKS team in a looong time. Shooters everywhere.
I’d favor them over the WIZARDS, MAGIC and HORNETS for that last playoff spot.
Still think they’re waaaay too bad in defence. Agree they are good enough to get that 8th seed, but I think its going to be very close between them and Orlando. Either of them could take it. My money would be on the Magic getting it again.
What suprises most is unspectacular moves from Nuggets and Clipps. Both these teams lost significant players and didn’t replaced them with anything better. They still good teams but doesn’t look like they made step forward while Lakers made a JUMP forward.
I got to disagree. LAC got better by adding Ibaka , having Morris from beginning of the season and kenard. and loss by addition in Harrel . Ibaka >Harrel : Harrel was making trouble in the locker room and thought he was a star player ( which he is not) he also is a defensive liability and an average rebounder. Ibaka is way better defender and a better rebounder and spreads the floor .he als has more chemistry with Kiwi. Shamet and Kenard are the same . Green was ok but LAC will probably sign the other Moriss which is better than Green .
Denver did loss a big role player in Grant , and Garret. But this opens up more playing time for Porter and Bol . They still have a good bench and their team will be dangerous.
Lakers lost a lot of defense this offseason and playoff experience players. The spacing also decreased a bit with Schrnider and Harrell.
All these teams are the top tier team the west and it’s too close to call .
Ibaka is a good pickup but that Morris contract is overpaid. It looked like they just panicked when word broke down that Harrell goes Lakers.
That’s why I said they’re still good but to me they wasted to much money on Morris (could have spent it on someone else).
Lakers still got some D & spacing from Gasol & Matthews on very cheap deals. Schroder & Harrell = spark from the bench.
Hopfully Porter Jr will step up this season (he had some good games on limited minutes last season).
And yeah – all three teams should fight for top seeds this year.
why are the pacers bringing in lecque. is aaron holiday not developing.
Think it was more about getting below the tax line than getting Lecque (he makes nearly $3MM less than Leaf).
I bet Kings don’t match the offer for Bogey. Its like they are absolutely determined to be a bad team.
Considering how many teams wanted Bogd. Kings should match and find a trade for him. Even if it is to Hawks. Always thought Buddy would be the one to go.
