NOVEMBER 23: It’s a done deal. The Nets sent out a press release confirming the signing of Green.
NOVEMBER 21: The Nets have reached a one-year agreement with forward Jeff Green, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link). He’ll receive the veteran’s minimum of $2.56MM, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype tweets, though it will only count $1.62MM against Brooklyn’s cap.
The journeyman forward was waived by the Jazz last season but had a good run with the Rockets in their small-ball lineups after he signed with them, first on 10-day contracts and then a rest-of-the-season deal.
Green averaged 11.6 PPG and 5.0 RPG in 28.4 MPG during 12 postseason appearances with the Rockets while knocking down 42.6% of his long-range attempts.
Green, 34, met with Houston on Friday, Kelly Iko of The Athletic tweets, but he opted to join another prime playoff contender next season in Brooklyn.
Nets having a terrible free agency. Banking on getting harden cost them good depth pieces, rockets will be much better this year with the presence of wood. If the can trade westbrook for wall plus a 1st or 2 they won’t be in as bad a shape as we originally thought.
How are the nets having a terrible free agency? They don’t really need depth pieces. They already have the deepest bench in basketball with Dinwiddie/Harris/Allen and now Green.
Plus one of Irving/ Durant will play minutes with that bench unit. That’s a solid bench, and Tauren prince.
Don’t forget Prince and Shamet.
Nets aren’t looking to be active in free agency at all.
I don’t understand why you saying that? They resigned Hariss ( a bit expensive) but still fits the team, they have a strong bench. All they need is to sign some veterans who have strong leadership to keep the team together. Maybe Tyson chandler fits the bill.
If Dinwiddie, Harris, Allen and Green are all coming off the bench. Who the fifth starter with Kyrie, KD, LaVert and DeAndre?
All the players you mentioned are terrible defenders, jordan is passable but hasn’t been stout in years.
*Allen is good defensively, and is there anchor.
Dinwiddie or Harris will start and Shamet will come off bench. Nets have one of the deepest 1-10 rosters in NBA!
Harris is a massive overpay for a 1 dimensional player. I think it remains to be seen how good kyrie is didnt do much without lebron and made celtics worse when he played and is injury prone. kd is coming off one of the worst injuries a ball player could have and everyone is quick to say they will beat heat, bucks celtics? Ha!
I agree nets have little depth and are relying heavily on aging vets off serious injuries. Could see them making it through first round but can’t see them making it to finals as currently constructed. Things could change like adding harden, but I highly doubt 75/80 percent kd and kyrie could make it pass the heat, bucks, celtics who are much deeper and better defensively.
Lmao dude you have no idea what you are talking about… you make it seem every team in the league has 7 elite defenders. Brooklyn has:
KD
Kyrie
Levert
Jordan
Prince
Harris
Spence
Plus a lot of vets and saying they can compete against Miami or Bucks yeah you don’t know anything about Basketball
Ummmm what? You also realize they can’t stop anyone correct all the guys you mentioned including kyrie and kd are bellow average to well below average defensively. You have no idea what you are talking about lmao, it will be exposed this year when kyrie and kd feud and kyrie gets delt for harden. Rookie head coach with dantoni conducting offense goodluck stopping anyone!
Lmao ok good job with reading headlines
Yeah, I agree with you. I don’t know what some of these people are smoking, but the Nets are stacked! Jacque Vaughn squeezed a lot out of that team with the top stars and half of the bench unavailable for the restart. With a fully healthy team, what are they lacking? Also, Joey Buckets is not one-dimensional. He showed it after the restart. When teams take the perimeter away from him, he drives and makes his own plays to the basket.
They already got the best depth in the league. Their bench made the playoffs the last two seasons.
In the leastern conference means little. Didn’t they get swept in first round both years?
Yes because its a bench not a first team. Add Durant and Irving to that and you got depth. What other teams benches you think could genuinely make the playoffs in the east?
These LA FanBoys don’t know ball bro. Probably never watch the Nets. Whole reason KD and Kyrie came here is their depth. Nets added KD, Kyrie Jordan, Shamet to a young playoff team. Even their third C got game. It’s why they can move Allen.
FanBoys are hilarious
Harris and Shamet are two of best 3PT shooters in NBA. That’s what you put around Kyrie and KD. Not even a fan lol. But Bklyn is a real contender as is. And a deep young team. Unfortunately their window is now. So they are probably moving Allen, Dinwiddie, LeVert and picks for an all star. To please K-n-K. IMO they should stay with this team and Allen. Cause they are fine with Claxton as backup.
Exactly what I think. I think GM’s get obsessed with having 3 all stars and losing all the depth of the roster. Harris, Lavert, Dinwiddie, Allen. Brilliant roster. I’m not a Nets fan either.
Kyrie: “we dont need a coach.” Then came steve nash who will be coaching his first basketball team i believe. A category 5 storm is in the horizon for this Nets team, watch out!
Kowalski!!!! Facts, these New Yorkers smoking that good stuff, no concept of actual roster construction. So far al is 0-15 in predictions, meaning he has no idea what he is talking about. Writes paragraphs of run on sentences, as if it’s fact! Ha!
That’s a win for Brooklyn
Not a good look for Houston, damn
Like Jeff Green is going to put the Nets over the top? Brooklyn is still going to finish behind Milwaukee, Miami, Boston, Toronto, and Philly. So basically they’re competing with Indiana for the 6th seed. Meanwhile the Rockets will still be fighting with the other contenders in the vastly superior Western conference.
Nice pickup especially for minimum. Solid play with Rockets last yr. Thought he could get more. Seems to me Nets are still in market for a big deal. I’d love to get in three way and get Dinwiddie out of it. He could start at PG for us. KD and Kyrie are not waiting too long. They will push for a major move.
Prime playoff contender? Bahahaha. With KD “ I will step on a toothpick and get hurt” along with Cancer Cryree the “ we don’t need a coach” Contender for what 8th seed. OMG
More like a one and done contender. Nets are so ridiculously overrated.
I’m happy with the Nets team as it is now and still have PTSD from the 2013 trade with the Celtics, so I wouldn’t want to sell the farm for Harden, but would you change your name if that happened?
Surprised they didn’t get more defensive stoppers. This teams all offense as it stands
Jeff Green played well in Houston because of the talent that surrounded him there. In Brooklyn he will look just like he did last year in Utah.
